Recent events in Marvel-U
I can't help but notice that the comm has been completely silent on the recent issues of Cap Reborn and IIM. Is it denial, did people not get them, or is everyone busy playing MUA2?

Reborn is just such total cracky crack on crack that it's hard to contemplate serious discussion. I had thought about posting monthly discussion threads, but never actually got to it.

This is true. Though who says it has to be a serious discussion? I mean, in three issues the only thing we've seen of Iron Man is his rear. I was expecting a comment on that.

I can't believe that Tony is nowhere around while Steve is coming back. I just want to head desk repeatedly.
Also, Fraction's story DOES NOT FIT any other comic. Not New Avengers, not Dark Reign, not Reborn, it just DoES NOT FIT

Okay, so it's possibly not the dramatic return Marvel wanted, but I'm enjoying it.

Well, it does make it easier to declare the whole mess non-canonical and ignore it.
What?
That is immature behaviour. Really? Is Fraction scared that Brubaker might do a better job at writing autobraindelete Tony than him?
Ugh! I just... what? Doesn't Fraction realise that Steve and Tony are some sort of friends (and I'm not even wearing my slasher lenses today)?
I don't know; maybe it's just a rumour
I mean, not that they weren't friends in canon before, but Marvel but so much extra emphasis on their friendship than it usually did, building it up to make the conflict more dramatic, making CW all about them.
It makes not having Tony even relevant in Steve's resurrection pretty fracking lame.
Hmmm
Yes, this. There was the whole 'brother against brother' theme threading all through the comics.

Yeah...
In Fraction's defence his story arc is set in such a way that to veer off it would cause it to collapse like a house of cards. I don't know... *chews thumbnail thoughtfully*. Or perhaps this Captain America reborn story is all pell mell and bouncing all over the place? Again, I dunno.
But if it's just Steve bouncing about the place at various points in time, it shouldn't matter if he needs Fraction's by your leave for using Tony Stark, truly?

Reposting comment because I can't spell
I'd do Ultimates updates, but the last update I did, people got so pissy and mean and dissed the post(despite the fact that if one didn't like Ultimates, they could just... scroll by?)so I tend to keep it to my LJ or keep the squee to myself.
It's probably because I'm a Vonnegut fangirl, but...
However, I can't really get onto the subject of IIM without there being RAGE, so I'll keep it to a polite ::razz::.

In my defense, I've been busy playing Arkham Asylum all hours that aren't work or Uni.
Hmmm... reborn is... special
Hitch's art is decent, but yeah... as ani said upthread I think the inker doesn't help. There's a lot of black spaces that makes it clumsy. The story is very much a mishmash of... randomness. I'd tell you to hold on getting reborn until its done (and wait for the trade if you're so inclined, it's cheaper than buying all four issues).

I just . . . I have no words. It's like those flashback episodes TV series would do when they were low on many so you get all the Flashback clips tied together by a really REALLY spotty plot.
I'm not liking it.
And the art isn't selling it to me either which sucks because I think the artist is usually fantastic, but something about the penciler and the inker just are not meshing, and I do think it's the inker because the inker has done some other Cap issues and it's his style I see more than he pencilers.
IIM is dead to me.
Fraction is also dead to me >.<
I may start doing some ultimates squee though ^^
Because Ultimate Avenges IS MADE OF WIN.
Girllll, tell them
Because Ultimate Avenges IS MADE OF WIN.
Tell 'em. Ultimate Avengers is boss now. It's like, the only comic right now I'm glad to be handing cash money over to read. The story, the pencils the entire experience... it's magic.

(not that that stops me from reading them, awful as they are, in the vain hope that Tony and Steve will talk to each other again at some point.)

1. lol at all of the extreme facial closeups at the end of each issue. I didn't mind the image of Steve but at Osborne I started giggling.
2. Needs more Tony, dammit. I really want those two to meet up at some point to start fixing things again as a team.
3. If we're going to have incessant flashbacks couldn't they throw a bone at me and feature more on Steve's childhood? I am so desperate by now. I can't possibly be the only one who wants to know more about the artsy little boy who grows up to be an American icon. (Extra points if they have a tiny Arnie cameo)
4. I really liked the flashback scene about Steve and his mum. Awww, poor Steve.
5. I liked Steve's old school helmet. The painted on wings looked nice.
6. This story might have benefited better if it was maybe 6-12 issues long. I can't possibly see how Brubaker is fitting in plot right now. They are STILL setting stuff up.
7. Sucks to be Steve completely conscious and stuck in the ice with his eyes open.
And oh hey, this is my first post in this comm.
Welcome to the comm!
3. I know, right! There needs to be more artsy-Steve Special Flashback Issues.
6. I think that Brubaker is pretty much just writing crack at this point, and everything will be resolved in the end by authorial hand waving. Personally.

The Iron Man plot is great though.

And don't even get me started on the Iron Man crap.
Comics really suck these days...
