Fanfic: The Bugs and the Bees
Fanfic: The Bugs and the Bees
Author: Other_Hazards
Pairing: Tony/Steve (established)
Timeline: After Tony could survive without the full chest plate, but before Extremis.
Rating: PG-13 (see warnings)
Disclaimer: Recognizable Marvel characters are not mine, don't sue.
Summary: Drabble. One of Iron Man’s allies shows up unexpectedly. The timing could have been both better and worse.
Warnings: References to earlier sex, and a suspicious lack of clothing. Also, an alien (not paired with anyone). And not beta'd.
---------------------------------
FLASSsh!
With a last crackle of slithering green energy, the High Commander of the Xhichicckask Armada materialized in front of Tony.
Fortunately, fifteen FEET in front of Tony, which meant the just-over-man-sized giant insectoid wasn’t standing ON his bed, just near the foot of it.
“Iron Man! My old ally, I must warn you of--!“ The Commander broke off, and seemed to be staring in horror, though with compound eyes the size of avocados, it was tough to tell.
“-Of...?” Tony prompted, sitting up in bed. -His cool reply owed more to shock and force of habit than anything else... “-Spit it out, Wings.”
“You have lost your exoskeleton! How did this happen? Will you not die?!” The insectoid’s front feelers lowered, quivering with alarm.
“Uh- -no, not anymore,” Tony ran a hand back through the still-damp wreck of his hair, “-I mean- -I don’t have to wear it all the time, now. It’s optional.”
Steve’s mouth twitched. He hadn’t made any sound, but the motion caught the Commander’s attention. It turned its head sideways for a moment, then nodded, one of the few Earth gestures it knew.
“Ah, I comprehend. Your species removes its shell to mate.”
“Something like that,” Tony agreed, smiling disarmingly.
“Congratulations on this,” the Commander offered, diplomatically.
“Thank you. Now, you mentioned something about a warning-?”
---
“Talk about none of his beeswax...” Steve grumbled, pulling on his blue uniform pants hurriedly.
“Come on, it wasn’t THAT bad,” Tony grinned, clicking one of his gauntlets shut.
“You just got ‘atta-boyed’ by an alien space cricket.”
“Jealous?”
“Hardly,” Steve smirked, looking for his scale armor shirt. “-Where’d you put the rest of my ‘exoskeleton’, mate?”
“Think it fell over by the couch,” Tony said, nodding in the appropriate direction.
Steve found his uniform shirt tangled around the base of a sturdy art-deco lamp, and finished dressing.

A/N: The title 'The Bugs and the Bees' worked, but I'm getting some serious deja-vous from it. If you've seen that exact title on anything else, please let me know.
