3-D Cap art by Swedish artist Sven Juhlin

Click it to see a bigger version. A creepy Red Skull is also at the site: www.comicsalliance.com/2010/01/06/3d-renderings-of-captain-america-and-red-skull/

dirty mind is dirty while staring at this picture. Someone should repost that scan of the epic Cap statue for comparison. ;)

Is he smoking a ciger? How weird. Cap used to be a pipe-smoker.

I like the curve of his back; I'm with [livejournal.com profile] elspethdixon that the muscle from shoulder to neck doesn't look quite right. Could just be the angle, though.

Thanks for psoting this!

I think he borrowed the cigar from Nick Fury. (seanchai's theory about the pipe-smoking in the Golden Age Cap stuff is that he deliberately chose a pipe over cigarettes in a vain attempt to look more mature and dignified. Or because he was a secret Sherlock Holmes fanboy.)

Haha yes, I can see twenty-three year old Steve desperately trying to present himself as dignified and mature, especially with Fury razzing him.

This Steve, in attitude and accessories, does seem a little different in mood from the comics Cap.

Steve would be one of those fanboys who rants about how the movie Got It All Wrong. Except the movies he rants about would be the Basil Rathbone/Nigel Bruce movies, and he'd be ranting about the un-canonical portrayal of Watson as ineffectual comic relief.

Steve pretty much never smokes in 1963-onward canon, so I'm guessing that either the pipe was an affectation, or that he got over the nicotine addiction while on ice for all those years and then simply never picked it back up again. Possibly option two, since practically everyone seems to have smoked in the 40s.

Did Tony ever smoke? I'm guessing during his playboy/pre-Iron Man days he must have. But maybe he had to stop once his heart got all wonky?

Now I want a fic where Steve and Tony have to quit smoking together

Well, there's one panel in Avengers #7 where he's shown smoking while wearing the chestplate. It's one of those WTF moments where you realize that the 1960s really was a different time. It's the only Tony smoking instance I can recall off the top of my head, which kind of heightens the "why is he smoking here?" aspect, but he might be smoking in other early 60s stuff and I just didn't notice/don't remember because the cigarettes paled in terms of Cold War Cracktasticness beside the slang, clothes, and plots..
