Having said that it’s sex pollen fic, the lack of explicit consent should be a given, but it’s handled with a deft touch, and goes the we-can-work-it-out-and-everyone-had-fun-anyway route rather than the darker alternative. Light angst (for said consent issues) gives it depth of flavour, and a happy ending rounds it off nicely.

I also really like the way that, towards the end, the narrative structure itself starts to mirror Tony's fragmented mental state. The slow build-up of Steve and Tony's relationship is really poignant, too; the very last lines made me catch my breath. A simply lovely story.

Steve somehow manages to lock his fingers together against the skin of Tony's back, face tucked down into his hair, and he's squeezing so hard the reactor has to be digging uncomfortably into his chest. But he doesn't say a word. He's not as warm as he was. Body tensing and relaxing like he's fighting shivers.
"If they find us like this I'm going to tell everyone you let me get to third base," Tony warns.
Steve's quiet for a minute.
"If you promise to still be alive when they do, then I won't deny it."
He's laughing, he's laughing out warm air and pressing his face into Steve's neck because no one, no one in the whole damn world could have made that sound so fucking heroic.
"Gonna hold you to that." It's hard to talk through the clacking of his teeth.

There's no quick fix, but the ending is both hopeful and uplifting, and I really, really love Tony in this. I can't capture in words everything that makes this fic special, but it really is one of the best Avengers fics I've ever read.

Tony feels there's nothing he can do and has resigned himself to death to save those he loves. That would be when JARVIS lets Captain America stumble into his old lab. Steve's stubborn refusal to give up on Tony forces him to keep living. It's tragic and beautiful, with a fluff ending. Steve is so pure in this story. And it has a sequel with an alternate POV. I love multple POVs!

Of course, that something just might kill Tony in the process. As someone who plays the game, the fic does a wonderful job of incorporating the bizarre and amazing world of the Neath, and Steve/Tony are just beautiful together in how they react differently to the situation.

I think there's more hurt than comfort, but the comfort comes, even if it takes it's own sweet time getting there. I tear up pretty much every single time I re-read it. But it's just so good.

Without Irony is the first of the two-part series for W.I.P.E and I highly, highly recommend everyone to read both fics from this series. I don't even know where to begin describing all the things that I love from this fic. Some of the immediate ones that come to mind are the unique freeform style, the action, the delicious drama between Tony and Steve, as well as the very palpable tension between Tony and...pretty much everyone. There's a lot going on but tsukinofaerii is able to combine all of these elements into something that works beautifully. It's a lengthy, lengthy fic since it's an entry for the big_bang but it's oh so worth the read. Also, I totally waltzed into this fic knowing the bare minimum of the comic-verse, briefly wiki'ed my way into understanding the events surrounding the Civil War, and is still utterly blown away by this despite my obvious lack of knowledge. I am glad that I did not let my unfamiliarity towards the comic-verse be a deterrent.

This works for me because it is essentially about trust. Tony wants to let someone else be in control for awhile. But he picks somebody completely wrong, who takes his trust and uses it to grind him down. Enter Steve, who gives Tony's abusive ex the boot once he finds out what's going on. Steve would be totally willing to take control for Tony if that's what he needs. Tony's past abuse makes it hard for him to trust, even though it's Steve, and even though he wants to, but together he and Steve make it work (after a few false starts).

This is a Civil War fix-it fic where Tony goes back in time before Steve dies and they have to fix everything even though they're both full to the brim with issues and still at each others' throats. Until they're not. This fic just punches me in all my emotions every single time. It's long and intricate and, if you're into it, the sex is hot.

Plus the fact that Tony is the heir to the dragons and Steve is a more than decent fighter against dragons... there's definitely very interesting tension abound as they run around the world trying to uncomplicate everything. Especially since Steve doesn't know Tony's identity at first. Lastly, it's by tsukinofaerii. That should be reason enough. ~.^

Well, it's 60k of delicious tsukinofaerii AU, which ought to be reason enough to read it right there. Tony is recruited by vampires, but finds that once he becomes a vampire, he really doesn't want to join up with them. They aren't taking no for an answer, and Tony calls for backup in the form of Steve. The vampires in this verse are really well fleshed out, with some interesting quirks. The main antagonist, a female vampire based on Elizabeth Bathory, is a complete badass and sympathetic despite being quite terrifying. The fight scenes are awesome. Pepper and Happy participate in a Avengers/vampire melee and are pretty badass themselves. Tony makes anti-vampire weapons, including a cowboy hat with a garrote.

UGH, CAN I JUST REC EVERY IRON MAN NOIR FIC EVER? NO? OKAY, LET'S START HERE. This fic is tightly-plotted and has really great interaction between these two. It's all so wistful that the happy ending was exactly what I needed. I loved how they loved each other dearly, but they still had their problems--and both attempted to be professional about it.

If you like longfic (I'm talking several hundred thousand K and counting for the sequels), if you like plot, if you like things not to be handwaved away in the easy route out, this fic is for you. It's voices are spot on for EVERY character, not just Steve and Tony, as the authors' love of canon shines through.

This fic does not have enough hits on AO3, probably because it is pure comics and not MCU. This makes me angry and you wouldn't like me when I'm angry...

When Tony is rebooted after deleting his brain, he's left with no memory of anything, and lingering programs that keep him from finding out everything he missed. Sometimes you just need to start over, but there's always a place in every plan for a backup.Without Irony is the first of the two-part series for W.I.P.E and I highly, highly recommend everyone to read both fics from this series. I don't even know where to begin describing all the things that I love from this fic. Some of the immediate ones that come to mind are the unique freeform style, the action, the delicious drama between Tony and Steve, as well as the very palpable tension between Tony and...pretty much everyone. There's a lot going on but tsukinofaerii is able to combine all of these elements into something that works beautifully. It's a lengthy, lengthy fic since it's an entry for the big_bang but it's oh so worth the read. Also, I totally waltzed into this fic knowing the bare minimum of the comic-verse, briefly wiki'ed my way into understanding the events surrounding the Civil War, and is still utterly blown away by this despite my obvious lack of knowledge. I am glad that I did not let my unfamiliarity towards the comic-verse be a deterrent.

The main antagonist, a female vampire based on Elizabeth Bathory, is a complete badass and sympathetic despite being quite terrifying. The fight scenes are awesome. Until one of Tony’s one-night-stands, who could be a double for Steve, turns out to be not quite as disposable as the rest of Tony’s conquests – and Steve’s repressed crush on Tony starts to become problematic…Usually, I see more stories of Tony pining for Steve, so this sort of role-reversal was refreshing. This is done entirely from Steve's POV and it gets angsty, especially at the point when Tony goes steady, and then even angstier. But there's a happy ending at the end. I also really like the friendship that developed between Steve and Johnny Storm. ^^

The characterization of noir!Tony is spot on, and manic_intent does an amazing job capturing his voice.
