Warren Ellis taking over Secret Avengers

According to this story on the Marvel website, Nick Spencer is only going to do one three-issue arc for the Fear Itself tie-in, and then Ellis is taking over. Steve will still be leading the team, but it's not clear from the interview whether he'll be leading it as Cap or as Steve Rogers.

Has Ellis written Steve much before? He's certainly done great stuff with Tony...

Has Ellis written Steve much before?

Errrr to my knowledge only like in a in Nextwave, but that doesn't count because Steve was acting out of character and he was being an ass to Monica. Then there was that panel where Monica and Elsa wonder if he's gay (he never hit on Monica and everyone dresses up as him in Gay pride parades). And then there's that other panel were The Captain mentions that he used to call himself Captain ____, a moniker so offensive that when he told his name to Captain America, Steve beat the shit out of him and left him in a dumpster with a bar of soap on his mouth. Still this is Nextwave so don't take anything seriously.

Knowing how Ellis writers he'll probably make Steve have a bit of an attitude or have a moment where he does something that is off-the wall or bizarre. He'll also maybe have Steve beat a bad guy in the most colorful way.

Still I have the utmost confidence that Warren will stay true to his character, and I no doubt he'll have a very interesting take on Steve or at least a kick ass one.

Secret Avengers didn't catch my interests but maybe I'll have to check out a couple of issues once Ellis takes over. I usually enjoy his stuff.

Ellis? Hells yeah!

I wonder what Marvel threw his way to make him take up a monthly series again? He was always a guy for his short story arcs. Ellis did Ultimate Steve in the Ultimate Gah Lak Tus arc. He also writes a neat Ultimates Sam. His Ults Steve had a come to Jesus moment when he realised that most of the scientists he came in contact with didn't believe in God, and it was such a powerful moment.

So yeah, I'll give an eye and some money when Ellis comes on the title.

Hells yeah! I am optimistic.

Apparently Brubaker wanted Ellis to take the title when he was gone and Ellis just complied.
