Hello and welcome to the weekly cap_ironman/cap_ironman newsletter.

At the top of today's news: MTV Interviews with Chris Evans in which he says that, of all the relationship's in The Avengers film, he's most interested in Cap's with Tony. He also talks about his costume and reading comic books. Joss Whedon has announced the first day of filming on the same film. I've got to say that I'm pretty damn excited, especially given the good buzz coming off Thor lately. And super cute picture of the Chris and Chris here.

CBR has an interview with Iron Man editor Alejandro Arbona in which he talks about the series and what direction it may be taking. It also has a write up and preview art for this summer's Iron Age mini, which looks like it's going to be a hoot.

In tie-in news, Newsarama has a very positive review of SEGA's Captain America: Super Soldier, and US designer Stussy has a line of Marvel t-shirts coming out soon.

Hm. Not too sure about this quote (From the Iron Age preview):
"My mantra all the way through this was that this can't be fan fiction," Williams said. "There has to be a protagonist journey and an arc. It can't be nostalgic trolling through the past..."

I'm pretty darned sure I've seen an awful lot of fan fiction that had a more coherent storyline (and character development) than Marvel comics as of late. Just sayin'...

On a different note, Iron Age does look like it'll be a heckuva lot of fun. :D

I think a lot of people see fan fiction as unrelieved id porn, though I'm unsure how that differs from super hero comics. Other than the porners are a different gender for the most part.

I'm looking forward to Tony getting to be the hero again (though he's been good in Avengers and Iron Man 2.0).

That's because fanfiction is a girl thing. Clearly our lack of male-ness means we can't beat up, torment and eventually evolve our characters the same way people like, oh, Matt Fraction do.

Don't I wish fanfic were easy. Then maybe I could edit my NaNo before the next ice age.

Clearly they are unicorns. Or lying for cred. Or just practicing for the big leagues. Or something. It's different. :\ TBH, I'm pretty sure all the people who complain about fanfic have never read more than one fic that was shown to them as proof that All Fanfic Sucks twenty years ago.

(For the record, I'm being massively sarcastic and do not actually think Male Fanfic Writers are fake, lying, etc. Because sarcasm and the internet do not do well together.)

I prefer people like Paul Cornell who totally own up to getting started writing Doctor Who fan fic.

I used to know this guy in the film industry who would not admit that the script he was writing for a Star Trek: Voyager movie was totally fan fic. It was pretty funny.

I sort of miss that factor in anime/manga. The creators had no problems admitting they'd started out in doushinji. :(

One of the reasons Naomi Novik is my most favorite authors ever is that, in addition to being a successful and totally rockin' author of books about dragons in the Napoleonic era, she's a head (the head?) of the Organization for Transformative Works. Legitimacy! You are a strange and pleasant feeling.

So if I wasn't sold on this concept already (since I'm a sucker for time travel stories told well) this line did it. The evolution of comics from the Golden Age to the beginning of the Modern Age was the subject of my academic essay in English class, I'd love to see some of that incorporated in an actual comic. :D EXCITEMENT.

I think this will be more late Silver Age focused, but it would totally rock to get some Golden Age in as well. I'm very much about this comic.

OMG I HAVE THAT HAMMER. And have been busily defacing it. I'm looking forward to holding it up in a darkened theater (pre-movie) and pressing the button that makes it glow. And it has noises! THUNDER CRASH. (It also, oddly, shoots a missile. o.O)

Iron Age looks pretty good! Hopefully it will herald an end to the Age of Tony 'Learning To Be Humble'/'Being Shown Up By Everyone Ever'...

Though the Arbona interview fails to relieve any of the chronic wariness towards Fraction's run.

Also? I get the happy feeling that the Avengers movie is not going to disappoint AT ALL! :DDDD

I didn't actually read the Arbona interview. I assume it didn't talk about how Fraction will depart imminently and someone who's actually read canon will take it on?
