Query

I just want to know something.  I was never really into comics. I've read a couple and I've seen the films, but the release of Captain america got me thinking.  When you read and write the fics here, do you imagine comic Steve and Tony or Chris Evans!Steve and RDJ!Tony.  I for one tend to go with Chris and Robert, maybe because they're real and easier to imagine. This is just me being curious.  Sorry if it's not allowed.

Unless the fic is specifically movie 'verse, I always picture comic!Steve and Tony because I personally prefer the comics a whole lot more.

I tend to picture comic verse Steve and Tony because I find RDJ a little too old( and too RDJ(, and have been reading Steve comics since long before Evans was cast.

I saw Iron Man before I got into comics, and got into comics before Chris was cast as Cap. So for me, comic!fic!Tony always sounds similar to RDJ, though I picture him to look different. And comic!fic!Steve has, and probably never will, look or sound like Chris to me.

I actually don't picture movie version for either, even when it's a movie fic. I also have a hard time picturing comic version because their looks do change quite a lot from artist to artist. Tony at any time looks classic to RDJ to sunburnt Italian to nondescript pale skinny guy with black hair and a van dyke. I usually picture the latter.

Steve can go from either MUSCLES to just athletic in the comics. I definitely can't picture Evans in this role. But Marvel Adventures style is usually how it goes. Not too square-faced, not too huge, a nondescript guy with blonde hair and a body like an offensive lineman.

RDJ is Tony Stark. Regardless of verse, I always picture him as Tony.

Chris!Steve tends to align rather neatly with my mental image of comics!Steve, so I'm sort of helpless there. They're visually inseparable in my head.

Tony for me tends to default towards a generic comics!Tony—tall, golden skintone that doesn't see enough sun, lean built but decently muscled, goatee, blue eyes. Even reading a movieverse fic he ends up that way. When I write movieverse I try to make it more RDJ-like, but that's all.

Chris!Steve and RDJ!Iron Man ^__^

Comic cap always was kind of natural and wide eyed for me so he kind of always looked like Chris!Steve and comic Tony always looked a bit too 80's smarmy kind of guy actually, kind of like a used cars salesman, sorry >_<

Ducks please don't shoot me.

Hmmm, it usually depends on what type of fic it is that I'm reading (movie!verse or comic!verse). But almost all of the time, I see them as there movie selves. No idea why, that's just what pops into my head.

Personally, I feel movie! and comics!Tony are really different so I only see RDJ!Tony for movie-verse fic (my personal mark of an IC fic for me is whether it can make me visualize the characters correctly when I read it). Chris!Steve is new and definitely going to be in my thoughts now, whenever I read movie!fic, and probably my comic!image is going to end up a changing a bit too.

I actually watched the movie Iron Man before reading the comics but after that I read so many comics (x-Men/Iron Man/Thor etc.) that now I imagine only comic!Tony and comic!Steve but if the fanfic is movieverse I I am, of course, all for movie!Tony and movie!Steve : D

I actually don't tend to visualize characters when I'm reading text. It takes a lot of concentration for me to see someone in my mind's eye. For me it's their voices and word choice that really make a character pop. And since I've really only seen the movies, I have the actors' voices most of the time.

Ditto on that. I feel the same.

Sometimes I 'hear' RDJ's voice for Tony and picture Tony from Earth's Mightiest Heroes... Movie fics are mix of movie and comic in my head, RDJ is a little too old in comparison to Chris Evans so its hard for me to see them together - but I haven't seen CA yet, I'm going this weekend, maybe that will change my mind.

I always picture comic!Steve, and a majority of the time comic!Tony (I love Granov). Tony has to have blue eyes for me! :-)

I tend more to EMH versions of both, especially Cap. That was the first version of Steve for me who had a voice, so I tend to hear that. Tony varies, because I saw the Extremis motion comic before I saw EMH. And yeah, I do tend to base what they look like on how they 'sound' in my head.

I tend to see 'Super Hero Squad Show' Cap & Ironman.

sorry, couldn't help it

I've always visualised the prettiest comics versions -- definitely Adi Granov for Tony, for example. But the movie *voices* creep in now, which is nice, since otherwise they both have to speak in a Kiwi accent in my head.

When I picture anything at all, (which depends on the text and how much it relies on visual descriptions) I usually picture a mashup between the actors, the comics, and fanart I like. I sometimes visualise RDJ and Chris Evans, just for fun, but it takes conscious thought -- looks pretty though.

generally comics!Steve and comics!Tony, although now that Chris Evans has imho totally nailed Steve that might start blurring a little in my head.

RDJ was amazing too but I think he's a little old for Tony in my head :)

What shows up in my head when reading fic is largely dependent on the voice the author uses, but for the most part I cannot picture anyone but RDJ as Tony. For Steve, my brain has a tendency to default to comics images. Aesthetically, I actually prefer Chris Evans, so whenever I catch myself using comics!Steve I sort of mentally "flip the page." It's a little hard to re-train associations, though... :(

I always picture the comics version of them, with Steve as a buff, blond guy who looks a lot like Steve Epting's art, and a little like Evans, and also just a tiny bit like Kevin McKidd (in terms of how almost freakishly blond both McKidd and comics "you can see my blond eyebrows through my mask's eyeholes" Steve is), but with a cleft chin. Evans' voice is just about perfect for how I imagine early canon!Steve talking, though. Really, he nailed sort of essence of Steve Rogers almost perfectly.

Tony is always comics Tony, sort of a blend of Patrick Zircher's art on the Execute Program arc, early volume 3 Tony, a little volume 1 Gene Colan and John Romita Jr., and a large helping of this gorgeous picture (http://pics.livejournal.com/elspethdixon/pic/0003yypk/g2). His voice is usually Marc Worden, the guy who played Tony in the 2007 animated movie (which also had a character design pretty close to the way I picture early canon Tony looking - i.e. pre-goatee, when he only had the moustache). Honestly, I kind of partially substitute comics!Tony in my head for RDJ even when watching the movies, despite RDJ doing an awesome job acting wise and in temrs of attitude/mannerisms/etc. (I do the same thing with several actors in the HP movies, where you get the same 'otherwise good actor has the wrong eye color' problem with Daniel Radcliffe, and where Alan Rickman is a good fifteen years too old for Snape. I'm constantly mentally subtracting fifteen years from movie!Tony's age so that he's in his twenties like early canon Tony ought to be). When I watch EMH, there's a lot of looking over the rim of my glasses whenever there's a close up so the screen will blur just enough that I can't make out his eye color.
