Downfall - A Steve/Tony Fanvid
So, you know how Sauron created the one ring, and into it he poured all his cruelty, his malice, and his will to dominate all life? Well, I tried to pour all my love for Marvel comics and all the joy I’ve gotten from the Steve/Tony fandom into this vid.
The password is 'sesame'. If you follow the vid to the vimeo site, there is an option to download. If there are any problems with that, I will upload the vid to a file sharing site. You can download it here at mediafire.
Edit: The mediafire link should be working now. Also, I forgot to mention that I'm totally fine with criticism, so feel free to point out anything I could improve on.
This is my first fanvid. Like Tony, I have SO MANY FEELINGS, so I'm going to babble a bit under the cut:
Okay, so this vid concept has been in my head for years. The song caught my attention for a couple reasons: I loved that it has several distinct moods, especially the middle which goes from upbeat gospel-like music to a soft, somber version of the chorus. I liked the idea of using the distinct parts of the song to tell distinct parts of Civil War and its aftermath: I used the first two choruses for the two main battles, the first verse for Civil War politics, the second verse for the Steve/Tony meet-up in the mansion, the gospel-like bridge for What If? happytimes and other shippy scenes, the somber chorus for The Confession, and the rest of the song for the aftermath of Steve's death.
Because I wanted to tell a fairly chronological story, I wanted the vid to move forward at a tight pace. To this end, I realized I wanted only one panel per slide and no word balloons, so that the images themselves didn't contain forward momentum that I couldn't control. Ah geez, does that sentence make sense? Basically, I wanted to take the 'sequential' out of 'sequential art', stripping out the textual story so that the music could take its place. This required a lot of cropping and Photoshopping. It also put restrictions on which panels I could use - many powerful panels simply were too small or had too many word balloons. In the end, however, I created more panels than I could use, so this wasn't a problem.
I now have a folder of balloon-free panels, cropped and sized to match. If anyone wants to use them for their own fanworks (IDK, icons? Wallpapers? More vids?), let me know. It was time-consuming work, and I'd be happy for it to go towards more than just this vid.
I was inspired by all of the vids posted to this comm, including
elspethdixon's Love Hurts: Living Armor/Tony for its genius editing, and
mozzarellaroses's Civil War Battlefield for its excellent timing of clips to music.
And I'd like to thank
harmonyangel for her encouragement.
Sorry for the TL;DR. Creative processes are like, my favorite thing ever to talk about.
