Title: Art Block

Author/Artist: [livejournal.com profile] yoshi12370

Summary: Steve has art block. Tony gives him an idea.

Pairings/Characters: Steve/Tony pre-slash

Word Count: 660

A/N: This is my first fic for this fandom! I hope I made them in character! It's unbeta'd so be warned!

Steve stared at his sketchbook with some frustration. As an artist, Steve noticed that he hasn’t been drawing for a while now and decided to sit down an try to draw something. However he quickly learned that he was in an art block and couldn’t draw anything good. After him ripping another page out of his sketchbook, he heard a swift knock on his room door.

“Come in!” The door opened and Tony entered the room.

“Hey Steve! Wanna go out for a burg-“, Tony started to say. He stopped when he noticed that Steve was focused on something. “What are you doing?”

“I’m trying to draw,” Steve answered simply as he ripped another page from his book, crumpled it, and threw it on the floor which joined the others.

“Seems like it’s not going so well,” Tony observed, kicking some of the balls of paper on the floor. “What are you trying to draw?”

“Anything at this point….” Steve sighed as he looked up at Tony. “I wanted to draw so I won’t get rusty but…I can’t think of anything to draw.”

“Hmm…How about draw something you love?” Tony suggested.

“I love a lot of things,” Steve replied, sighing.

“Well think of something you really like, you know…what inspires you,” Tony continued. “I don’t know…think outside the box?”

“Hmm…” Steve pondered and glanced at Tony. Then he jumped up. “I got it!”

Steve quickly started to draw something then remember something. “You mentioned going out for a burger, Tony?”

Tony blinked then remember what he came in for. “Yeah, I wanted to go have a burger at our usual place. I wondered if you wanted to join me.”

Steve closed his sketchbook, grabbed some of his pencils and a bag and stuffed the book and the supplies in it. “Yeah I haven’t eaten anything for a while.”

—————

Tony was halfway finished when he noticed that Steve barely touched his food. He was too busy drawing in his sketchbook to eat.

“Hey Steve,”

Steve made a vague sound of acknowledgement to Tony’s call.

“Are you going to eat?”

“Yeah, yeah,” Steve replied and grabbed a fry from his plate and went back to drawing.

“If I knew you’re this serious about your art I could of called you out about you interrupting me working,” Tony sighed, shrugging.

“That’s completely different, Tony,”

“Right,” Tony rolled his eyes with a smirk. He got up to see what Steve was drawing. “At least let me see what you’re working on.”

At that moment Steve slammed his book close and yelled, “NO!”

Tony blinked and tried to reach for the book, “Why? I won’t judge!”

“No! Not yet!” Steve grabbed his book and put it up out of Tony’s reach. Tony sighed.

“Let’s finish our meal then,” Tony sighed, giving up.

“Right,” Steve put his book next to him and started eating. Tony gave the book a look and Steve reacted, “Don’t even think about it.”

Tony huffed in reply and finished his burger.

———————-

After their lunch, they headed back to the Avengers Mansion and Steve retreated back to his room. Tony mentally noted this just in case Steve tries to blackmail him from his work.

A little later in the evening Tony entered Steve room to find Steve asleep on his desk. His sketchbook was open to what he was drawing.

Tony stole a glance of it and felt his face heat up. It was a accurately detailed picture of him and Steve, arm to arm, with them smiling with no care in the world. Tony then remembers what he suggested to Steve when he was having trouble drawing.

How about draw something you love?

Tony doesn’t know if the drawing implied that Steve loved their friendship or Tony himself, but it doesn’t stop him from blushing like a schoolgirl.

Aww! I love any story that explores Steve's artistic side, and this was too cute! This part made me laugh:

“If I knew you're this serious about your art I could of called you out about you interrupting me working,” Tony sighed, shrugging.

“That's completely different, Tony,”

Poor Tony, it's not easy to argue with Cap. ;-) Oh, and let me know if you'd like a beta in the future.

I like Steve going 'don't even think about it'. He knows Tony's personality so well. And the idea of Steve being as wrapped up in his art as Tony is in his work is a great mental image, as is blushing Tony. Because while I see lots of Steve blushing in fanfics, Tony's usually immune to it. So I liked seeing the tables turned. (Tony Stark is apparently immune to innuendo but not honesty.)
