What a great idea! My 3 year-old idolizes Captain America (Iron Man comes a close second) and this looks like a relatively easy - but brilliant! - decorating job. Did you use fondant on the actual large cake, though?

All the decorations are marzipan, we tend to use that more than fondant in Finland. I believe fondant would work as well, but marzipan tastes nicer;)

Oh, of course! I couldn't figure out what you used to make the top all smooth like that. I agree, most fondant tends to taste plasticky and I don't have the patience or talent to make the real kind. Again, great job! :)

Cake is just a regular wheat thing with home made jam (plum) and whipped cream inside; for the cupcakes I used two different chocolate muffin recipes (with different kind of chocolate chips), the decos are marzipan and store bought glittery decorative paste. (You can make "marzipan" of some sort on your own and every ingredient is replacable. Not that I recommend the process to anyone... I've done it once and damn, store bought is good enough for me!)
