Cap_Ironman Weekly News, Week Ending 12 August 2012

Welcome to the [community profile] cap_ironman/[livejournal.com profile] cap_ironman newsletter! In movie news, Joss Whedon will direct the Avengers sequel and is working on a Marvel-based TV show. He'll also be contributing creatively to all of Marvel's upcoming films. Elsewhere, Marvel studios may try to negotiate with Fox studios for use of Galactus and Silver Surfer, in return for extending Fox's ownership of Daredevil. Or maybe not. Trading comics characters like baseball players… good idea? Terrible idea? Any trades you'd love to see?

Sixteen year-old Jillian Kirby, granddaughter of Marvel legend Jack Kirby (co-creator of Cap and Iron Man and many, many more) is running Kirby4Heroes in conjunction with the Hero Initiative, which helps comic book creators in times of financial or medical distress.

Talk about anything on or off-topic in the comments here. Just keep it reasonably safe for work.

Anyone else see the Remender interview about his run on Cap? Apparently it's going to go back to a more sci-fi/adventure book like Kirby wrote, and he's planning to do a lot of stuff with Steve's childhood.

It's interesting that a lot of the newer Marvel books seem to be going back to a lighter feel. Like Daredevil, Captain Marvel, Waid's new Hulk book, now this Cap book. Maybe they're finally getting tired of GrimDark.

Thanks for the link to the interview. That was an interesting read. I agree that going to new types of stories is a great idea. Mining Steve's childhood will be very interesting to read (even if yeah, it'll mess with everyone's headcanon, as it does), and lighthearted stories will be a nice change. I like some of the GrimDark stuff, but it's been too much of late - going on for a very long time, too.

That thing with Steve's parents being communists sounds very interesting. I can see how that idea would work very well. At least socialist working class, politically aware… yeah. Got me thinking there :-)

I really hope that they don't forget to include Arnie Roth. All the D: D: D: if they do. I like the noir stuff too, but it seems to have gotten prioritised lately. The same with the WWII stuff. I've loved a lot of it, but it needs a rest. It'll be nice if we get something more fun for a bit.

Here's the article about Steve's parents and communism.
