...
Actually, scratch that, because I would also put a lot of faith in DeConnick after that Avengers Assemble issue where Tony and Bruce make a bet.

The writer wasn't convinced himself until he watched a cut of 2013's Iron Man 3 film, where the ending had Downey's Stark looking at a little screwdriver found in the rubble of his wrecked Malibu mansion and smiling, knowing he'd build his life back up again.
"I loved that shot so much. Everything was destroyed, everything's over. He picks up his screwdriver and knows exactly what he needs to do next," says Bendis, who's even written in the screwdriver into the upcoming comic.
"It's like a brand-new kind of technology but it still brings out the classic Iron Man. You just get all the Iron Mans at once, plus some new ones," says Bendis,
In addition to his weaponry, Iron Man's also getting a larger cast of characters, many of them new. Fans of Stark pals Pepper Potts and Happy Hogan will get to see them again at some point, but Bendis says he is instead focusing on introducing folks such as a love interest "who is smarter than him," the writer says. "He can't just be snarky Tony Stark and woo her. He's got to earn her, and even that's a challenge.
"The fact that he has to says a lot: 'Well, maybe I'm not as cool as I think am.' "
The writer admits that it's hard to not think about Downey when writing an Iron Man comic because the actor has made the character such a pop-culture icon. "My favorite part of Robert's performance is the intensity in the lab, that alone time. That is unique to all other superheroes, him trying to figure it out, and that part of the character is what I focus on more than the voice."
One of the challenges of writing Tony Stark is "he's smarter than me," Bendis says, and he's like a lot of higher-intellect guys where "they already know what the conversation is before you have it. Robert Downey Jr. does that perfectly, and I do that as well but a little different.
"Every line of dialogue from another character is a setup for him to say something witty, and when he says it, it's kind of a defense mechanism. And when he doesn't engage in witticisms, that's the stuff I find the most interesting."
