Yeah, but I think that the last page indicates that Vision changed something and what happened is really a possible future that Tony saw and that we'll see Steve again.

I hope that's the case!

I am going to cling to this interpretation like a barnacle. Thank you.

Okay, I first read Armor Wars and then went to read 1872 in hopes that it would make me happy... and... yeah. WTF did I do to you Marvel???

At least I loved that Natasha and Bucky were married - even though that ended as it did - and she's going to play a part. And there was this drunken Tony panel when Steve is outside calling everyone out and he's like "Steve?" like he's hearing a beloved voice. And, of course, when it happens and he loses it and all the women are like they need to spare him the sight, like he's the wife who just lost the husband.

Apart from that I'm still WTF MARVEL????

I do hope that this Vision/Future note was a message for Tony telling him that Steve's or a Steve's still alive (the theme seems to be that everyone starts doubting Doom) and they have a plan or something and that's why he's laughing like a maniac and springing into action. I'm not sure why I still hope for good things when this is what I get for it, though.

I was excited about Natasha and Bucky! I was excited about that panel of Tony realizing something was going on. I was even really interested in the fact that half the women in the town showed up to stop Tony getting himself killed too, and one of them has a metal prosthetic hand !!!. There are cool world-building things. I'm just having a lot of trouble focusing on them right now because wtf marvel. That was so horrible and excessive.

i hope something like that happens too. I just can't put any real emotion into it at the moment, and I'm not sure I want to.

*nods* Right there with you. There was so much good there that could have been great, but after that last bit was just so completely over the top that I think I went pale and then couldn't really think about any of the cool things anymore.

Yeah, it would be great if something happens that fixes this, but I'd rather not hope and then be even more upset when it doesn't happen.

I feel Marvel hates me even more than DC sometimes. Definitely this week.

Yeah Marvel was a real !@#$% this week wasn't it :| I read 1872 and then read armor wars in hopes it would cheer me up

Worked about as well as reading Armor Wars first and then 1872 I suppose. WTF, Marvel? What did I ever do to you? T.T

[identity profile] winterstar95.livejournal.com 2015-08-19 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I've decided that Marvel doesn't want me to read their comics anymore. Anytime I start reading they do something terrible. So yeah 1872 sucked. At least I still have my own take on a marvel western I'm working on.

You know...the only thing I'm wondering about? Isn't it a little too convenient that some mysterious old man wearing blue with a star-ish type pendant hanging right in the middle of his chest just happens to walk right up to the broken vision machine and make it work. This message kick-starts Tony to re-build, which we all know is the Ironman armor.

I bring this up because...hmmm...old man...with sort of a captain american-ish motif there. 616!Steve, as far as I know, hasn't been found in Battle World yet. But also, consider Rohaz from 1602 and his real backstory. I'm just putting it out there, but...[peers] there are possibilities.

That being said, what happened to timely!Steve was messed up. What happens with Tony in Armor Wars is even more messed up!

That's exactly why I was thinking/speculating that it's "a" Steve who gives Tony a message. Something is up, I just don't dare to hope after this gruesome gruesomeness. >.<

Omg omg. What did I just read. Omg. Omg.

I'm not gonna read Armor Wars just yet because from what everyone's saying, I'm probably not gonna survive it.

But omg. Steve. Omfg. WTF.

Just, on a less emotional note, I did like how the angles, framing and lighting/coloring built up to the panel that... The panel. You could feel it was going to happen and then BAM it happened and then.... And the after bits.

Oh man I thought I'd be coherent here but nope.

Just. I hate how Marvel's been dangling the apple in front of us and then they CRUSH AND BURN IT just as we reach our hands out to it. It was a pretty apple.... Looked delicious.

And yet they still managed to make 1872 so damn slashy. Tony waking up to the sound of Steve's voice. How Tony's the one to run out crying NOOO when Steve gets shot. How they seem to treat Tony like he's a vengeful wife like runningondreams pointed out. "We let him die in the streets! We're all damned!" How he turned to even more booze afterwards because no one's around to stop him anymore. Seriously. And they didn't even interact in this one!

And Tony used his hammer to smash the bottle of alcohol. He's not fucking around anymore and I love it.

(Oh god! We forgot the whole 'this is why Tony can't use guns anymore' explanation in the beginning!..... Didn't Tony look adorable in a top hat?! ;D)

I'm really looking forward to the rest, oddly enough. Steve's death seemed really... sudden? And questionable? And I can't imagine what could possibly make Tony laugh like a maniac if it didn't have to do with Steve not being dead...?? I dunno. I'm feeling foolishly optimistic.

Yeah, it seems to be all about the Steve/Tony relationship without them even actually interacting in this one.

I really want to know what's up with the Vision message now, but I think I need to recover first, before even daring to hope or look forward to anything Secret Wars related again.

Oh, I was sooo sad when I read it! But after a day of thinking about it I also think it was SO slashy!
I'm also kind of hoping for something about Steve coming back or another Steve arriving or something. (Do you think the previews hinted at that?)
But I understood Tony's laughing at the end as a rather sad laugh, so that doesn't really make me hopeful...

Didn't even look much at the previews. The things they spoil usually annoy me - while they never give you the kind of trigger warning hints that would actually be useful. (As presented very well by this issue...)

Well, we did get a grave stone shown as a hint right from the first announcements, so I'm not expecting a happy ending, just something that is less messed up than this. ;P

The more I think about it -- what makes me particularly upset with Steve's death in 1872 are two things -- one is what happened afterwards which is horrible and really makes me want to drop the title entirely.

The other is that I really liked this version of Steve and wanted to see more. I don't get the sense that we'll see a Steve like this in the next year or so (even more) in comics Marvel. And that makes me both sad and mad at the same time.

Also, I know that I really got interested in 1872 because of the Tony and Steve interaction. I am tired so so tired of them fighting -- I just want to read comics where they are friends.
