I hope our first Relay remixers are happily remixing in utter secrecy not giving away they're remixing at all. XD

But I'm very excited for remix exchange sign-upps so close so that everyone can get started on that. Remixing is so much fun.

I'm trying to fill at least a few stocking for

fandom_stocking and I really need to up my game here.

My experience with canon Ultimates is somewhat limited, I've only read a few of the early runs. Between that and fanfic, I feel like I've come away understanding ULTS Steve's character much better than I do ULTS Tony's. Which is a bit of a problem since I'm trying to write something from his POV.

So what I wanted to ask was:

What kind of person do you think Tony is behind his flirty, alcoholic mask? Caring? Scheming? Persistent in his goals? Sad? Some combination of the above?

How do you think he views Stark Industries? Or America? Is there any sense of duty or responsibility there?

What kind of relationship did he have with Gregory? Especially early on? How did Tony view his brother?

Even if you don't have any answers to these specific questions, I'd happily take any ULTS Tony related meta or reading recs.

Oh man oh man ults tony certainly is a pain to unwrap compared to the more open Steve, but I love him just as much.

I think u!tony is a very well-guarded man, probably to most so out of all the Tony’s because it’s a mask he doesn’t drop, very possibly a mask he's trying to convince himself is him. I think deep down he's caring but driven, and at least towards the start of the run a little reckless, because he's convinced he's going to die anyway. Its sometimes a little hard to see, but I think he really does care for his teammates, he loves thor, and he definitely likes/admires cap, even if he's less head over heels about it than other Tony’s. He cares about being a hero for more than just his tumour, he talks a lot about being scared when he does superheroing things and he can’t do it sober, yet he continues to get up and keep going even when he wants to quit. And I think he's a bit of a bleeding heart, he truly falls in love with Nat and covers up with her betrayal well but in ults 3 its clear to see there are cracks. and Despite the horror that is his relationship with his brother, even at the end tony is devastated to lose him, he says "he's my brother!" despite how Greg treats him, I think Tony cared more for his brother than Greg cared for him.

I think he's very business involved, more so than other Tony’s and some of nicks words can point towards that, he's good at what he does, he knows what he's worth and remarks about how much money he loses when people waste his time. what with Greg threatening at his back it’s not surprising, he has to be good and business involved, though I think as time goes on he starts to pick up and take more responsibility in ironman. and I think he's critical of America but I find it hard to believe he wouldn't love it anyway. He wouldn't protect it if he didn't.

As I said earlier with his brother I think tony cares a lot more than Greg does, Greg seems to be callous and angry with what tony was given, and seems to be the very classic "I’m older I should have things" kind of sibling. he puts down on tony, and whilst I have seen him be nicer when he finds out tony is sick I’m not sure to what extent that's an act ( I’m still working through canon myself) I think tony however loves his brother, and I think when they were younger tony might have looked towards him to learn, and maybe for protection, especially if Greg had a similar personality as a child

I haven't got a lot of tony pov based reading recs as there aren't many out there, and I don’t blame other writers I’m certainly not jumping to attempt it, but I would recommend this short fic by Valtyr that has a very good tony POV and talks a little about his relationship with Greg I think is close to how canon might be: <ahref="http://archiveofourown.org/works/189794">Domestic Partnership

I always find it hard to write without a clear image of what the pov character is like in my head. I tried working with what I had with MCU!Tony + what I've seen of Ults!Tony, but it just wasn't clicking!

I think I have a better idea now, so I'm going to take some time to digest this and take another stab at writing soon. If you don't mind, I'd like to reach out to you if I have any further questions. Would tumblr be a good place to do that, if it's all right with you?

I can sort of understand what it wasn't clicking, for me personally ults tony and mcu tony are massively different people, they have shared experiences and some morals, but they are very different beasts, much like ults and mcu steve are, so in order to feel them properly you need to treat them differently, mcu and ults tony would have very different reactions to some things, but at their core they have very very similar morals
