Notes: Divergent from Canon around The Winter Soldier, meaning we haven't yet been introduced to Clint's family, meaning they don't exist, and I'm ignoring them completely. Sorry Laura. You're a badass, but your existence puts a damper on my setting. Therefore, in this particular alternate universe, Clint didn’t marry you. Also, even though technically The Winter Soldier takes place after the events of Iron Man 3, the events of Iron Man 3 did not happen in this fic the way they did in canon, so Tony still has the arc reactor.

Summary: In an alternate universe, Steve Rogers was the one who fell from the train during World War II, while trying to save his friend, Bucky Barnes, from certain death. Bucky took up the mantle of Captain America after Steve died – and 70 years later, the assassin they call the Winter Soldier resurfaces. Now the Winter Soldier has to come to terms with the past, his actions, and find his way back to being Steve. Tony Stark is cautiously optimistic about the strange new addition to their merry band of superheroes, and there’s something utterly compelling about Captain Rogers that he can’t seem to resist – even though he knows it’s the bad idea to end all bad ideas. And as Steve learns to live as an autonomous man in modern times, Tony finds he wants to get closer and closer to him. But Steve still has secrets, and those secrets threaten to tear them both apart.

Fic Summary:

[The Swan Princess AU] As young children, Prince Anthony and Princess Natasha of neighboring Midgardian kingdoms are betrothed, and spend their summers together every year until they are wed. Tony adores his headstrong friend Nat: it’s her scowly little companion Steve he’s not thrilled about at first. But soon Steve goes from being a thorn in Tony’s side to being his dearest friend – and much, much more than that. Despite Steve feeling the same way about Tony, the pair still dance around each other for years as Steve struggles to accept his feelings for another man: especially one already betrothed to another. Not to mention that Tony is a prince, and Steve is nothing but a squire.

But before they can make peace, Tony is kidnapped and dragged into the beginnings of another conflict in the nearby magical kingdom of Asgard – he really hates magic. With his potential usefulness diminishing by the day, Tony races to escape even as Steve, Natasha, and their friends race to find him and bring him home.

And—just to make matters worse—Tony has been trapped by a powerful spell and turned into a swan, of all creatures. He really, really hates magic.
