Cap/Iron Man Remix 2018 is coming your way!

THE THIRD ANNUAL Cap/IronMan Remix is about to hit the ground running - GET HYPED! This year’s Remix will run as three concurrent parts: the primary Remix Exchange, Remix Madness, and the Relay Challenge, back by popular demand.

Wondering what a “remix” challenge entails? Quite simply, a remix (like the edit of a song) is a fanwork that is a re-imagined version of another fanwork. A remix is your chance to transform another person’s work the way a music remixer might put their own stamp on an existing song.  

Remixing a fanwork can mean switching POV or composition, changing the tone or mood of a story, writing a timestamp or drawing a missing scene, or even transplanting a fic or picture into a new universe. This is by no means an exhaustive list of how to remix – for more information, check out the Fanlore article on remixing and our Remix - How To post. As with music, remixes should not be confused with edits: the end product should be something new.

Look for a detailed rules post and FAQ in the next few days. For now, here's our schedule for the 2018 Remix:

Sign-ups for Remix Relay Open: December 9
Sign-ups for Remix Exchange Open: December 15
Sign-ups for Remix Relay Close: December 29
Sign-ups for Remix Exchange Close: January 7
Assignments: sent no later than January 9
Remix Madness opens: January 20th
Exchange Deadline: February 11th
Reveals: 14th February onward
Final Remix Madness Submissions due: TBD

Cap/Iron Man Remix Relay 2018 Sign-ups Open

Cap/Iron Man Remix 2018 sign-ups will be opening soon but you can sign-up for Remix Relay now!

Relay Remix is another side event for those of you who can’t get enough of remix challenges! This event is not an exchange, it’s a remix chain in the style of a game of telephone. Speed is of the essence! It is open to artists and writers.

It works like this: someone sends us a starting fanwork, and the mods will pass it on to the next person in a chain of signed-up participants. The next person creates a remix, sends it back to the mods, who send it to the next person on the list, and so on until the chain is complete. At the end, the person who created the original work will get to do the final remix.

Sign-ups begin here and now, December 9th, and will be accepted in the order we receive your information.

Send us an email at cap.im.events@gmail.com with your AO3 name and an email address that you check frequently.

In the body of the email, indicate if you have an unposted Steve/Tony fanwork that you would like to offer up as a starting fanwork. Remember – this means you also do the final remix if yours goes up first.

Sign-ups for Relay close on December 29th.

A few basic rules (detailed rules in the Remix Rules/FAQ):

• All remixes must be fic or art. Fic must be at least 500 words, and art must be digitally or traditionally drawn images (no manips) or fully realized sketches.
• Once you receive your mod email with a fanwork to remix, you have 7 days to return your remix. Treat it as a flashwork challenge – the sooner you get it back, the better.
