Captain America Cast Post

As we saw in [profile] viloki9´s post we all have some opinions on who should become Captain America (and who should not)

What I missed in that post and the comments were pictures: I don´t know about half the guys you suggested, so...
How about some visual aid?
*warning: dial up heavy*
OK, according to rumors Leonardo Di Caprio = Cap?

...hell no.

[personal profile] johanirae suggested Heath Ledger (regardless of his current...condition)

[profile] viloki9 thought  of Tahmo Penikett

[profile] anonymiss731 mentioned Josh Lucas.

And then Matthew McConaughey

And Liam Neeson

[personal profile] cruelest_month said something about Mark Valley

and then: Val Kilmer.
I think there is some influence of KKBB and the RDJ/Kilmer vibe detectable. (I bought the movie because of you guys). Personally, I think that he is too old (and a little outta shape) for that role now.

Casper van Dien?

[profile] starshattering told us about James Van Der Beek

[profile] damaumbramentioned Aaron Eckhart

I believe in Harvey Dent

[profile] duffnstuff wants Jamie Bamber

[personal profile] banah: John Barrowman

[profile] badluck313: Matt Damon

(Though he's Two-face)Aaron Eckhart would be really great... at first I did think of Casper van Dien, but he should be taller and he's to old.(But he has nice jaw!)

[identity profile] fire-tears.livejournal.com 2008-06-24 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I suggest Jason Lewis. Granted, I've never seen his acting, but I think the guy has the look, and he's an unknown, so people will look at him and think, "Captain America" instead of "[Insert Famous Actor Here] playing Captain America."

[identity profile] juniper200.livejournal.com 2008-06-24 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh, he's good. Especially in that second pic.

I'd also totally buy Mike O'Hearn, Titan from the new American Gladiators (http://www.nbc.com/American_Gladiators/photos/#cat=628).

Image

I don't know about his acting, though. Has anyone actually seen World's Finest (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0420324/)?

[identity profile] fire-tears.livejournal.com 2008-06-24 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I still prefer Jason Lewis, but hell, he looks like a damn good choice, too. Definitely has the body for it. XD Unfortunately, I haven't seen World's Finest. D: But now that I've read the description of it, I may have to.

[identity profile] kasumi-sora.livejournal.com 2008-06-25 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sure it will happen (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PIWskgVx_v0)

[identity profile] non-sum-lacerte.livejournal.com 2008-06-24 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Jason Lewis is cool, he was in Beverly Hills 90210, Sex in the city, Charmed, Brothers and sister, House and couple of other shows and movies. He hasn't exactly had much experience doing action films (much less super hero films) but he might turn out to be really great anyway. I mean, I never really thought RDJ would play a super hero, and he turned out to be amazing.

[identity profile] fire-tears.livejournal.com 2008-06-24 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
No kidding. I think we all agree that RDJ rocked his role.

I'm glad someone knows what his acting is like. I don't actually, um, watch TV, so my experience with actors other than actors in films is zilch. And even then, I barely watch movies, so... yeah. XD; My pool of actors to choose from is pretty small.

[identity profile] silver-autumn.livejournal.com 2008-06-24 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooooo. The second pic...I'd vote for this guy. :) Looks like he jumped out of the pages of the comic book.

[identity profile] hempfandango.livejournal.com 2008-06-25 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
I agree, I think it should be a relative unknown. This guy definitely has the look (plus he's hot which is always a plus).

[identity profile] silver-autumn.livejournal.com 2008-06-24 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I do like the look of Aaron Eckhart but since he's in Batman..hmm.

The John Barrowman suggestion made me laugh. I love that man, but I dunno about him taking on another Captain role. :)

[identity profile] lilpocketninja.livejournal.com 2008-06-24 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I was mostly joking, for the record. XD

[identity profile] silver-autumn.livejournal.com 2008-06-25 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I know. :) I just love me some Captain Jack so I had to say something. :)

Love your icon btw.

[identity profile] non-sum-lacerte.livejournal.com 2008-06-24 03:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I really like this Tahmo Penikett guy, he's got that....look to him. Mark Valley also has this certain appeal (and really pretty eyes too!)
But I agree with Fire Tears, Jason Lewis might be another good choice (Gah, I'm horrible at picking just one actor...)

But, oh boy, they better not use Matthew McConaughey. I swear to God...
I really don't mean to offend Matthew McConaughey, I just can't for the life of me picture him as Captain America. (I can't with Matt Damon either, as much as I love him. Maybe, just maybe, they could pass Damon off as Bucky, but I don't know if they make him Captain America...)

[identity profile] axolotl-lan.livejournal.com 2008-06-24 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I went and watched a few clips of the Tahmo guy, his voice works too and his acting seems pretty good.

[identity profile] non-sum-lacerte.livejournal.com 2008-06-24 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
The only thing is that he's going to be in the new Whedon series Dollhouse so I wonder if he'd be too busy with that to devote enough time to the role of Captain America. I mean, it's very possible that they could work it out, but I don't know.

Tahmo = Boyscout

[identity profile] viloki9.livejournal.com 2008-06-25 07:41 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I chose him not just because he kind of looks the part, he definitely can play the part, here are some clips that I could find of him on Battlestar Galactica:

(for those of you who don't follow BSG, his wife is a cylon -think cyborg- she gets resurrected every time she gets killed)

[identity profile] johanirae.livejournal.com 2008-06-24 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
It's really tough to capture Cap. I mean, that old school American loyalty, soldier's toughness with a tough of patriotic naiveness? Man, just by looks alone it's tough!

Realistickly, I think Aaron Eckhart would definitely have the acting capability though to do it. Unrealisticly I still insist Mr Ledger was the best,

[identity profile] non-sum-lacerte.livejournal.com 2008-06-24 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)

I concur. And (randomly) I'm pretty excited to see The Dark Knight to see how well he did in the role of the Joker. Does anyone else see a lot of Joker/Batman slash being written as the result of this movie?

[identity profile] fire-tears.livejournal.com 2008-06-24 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
It's so wrong, but so disturbingly right.

[identity profile] smilingskull.livejournal.com 2008-06-24 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
'Nother crack!tastic pairing that's going to come from this summer? Tony Stark/Bruce Wayne.

[identity profile] fire-tears.livejournal.com 2008-06-24 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, we already have that. Well, sort of. Tro wrote an adorable Steve/Tony ficlet, and in it, Bruce and Tony were together for a bit when they were younger. =D

[identity profile] non-sum-lacerte.livejournal.com 2008-06-24 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
<3 Looking forward to it.

And:
Joker/Tony/Bruce.

or Steve/Tony/Bruce

Robin/Bruce/Tony (Okay, so that's maybe too disturbing...)

[identity profile] fire-tears.livejournal.com 2008-06-24 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
The awesome thing about Tony is you can pair him with a hell of a lot of people, and make a pretty good argument as to why it would be possible. Not so much with the staying together, though.

[identity profile] non-sum-lacerte.livejournal.com 2008-06-24 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Well Tony is is the little black dress of Marvel (and DC now apparently) I pretty much see him with anyone. Ditto on the staying together part...

[identity profile] fire-tears.livejournal.com 2008-06-24 04:53 pm (UTC)(link)
*laughs* That's an awesome description of Tony. But yeah, relationship-wise, Steve's the only character who doesn't garner a reaction of, "Yeah, this is gonna go down in flames," from me. XD;

[identity profile] non-sum-lacerte.livejournal.com 2008-06-24 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree.

Though I really like Rhodes/Tony

[identity profile] smilingskull.livejournal.com 2008-06-24 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I swear, according to the 80's, that's cannon. Of course, a lot of crazy shit went down in the 80's in comics. (and the 90's too, for that matter.)

[identity profile] non-sum-lacerte.livejournal.com 2008-06-24 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
No kidding, sometimes Rhodes and Tony seemed every bit as gay as Steve and Tony (and then some).

I love the wonky 80's storylines. God, some of them were so...cracktacular.

[identity profile] lilpocketninja.livejournal.com 2008-06-24 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Already did it.

[identity profile] saint-kit.livejournal.com 2008-06-24 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Totally backing Mark Valley. I've only seen him in a few things, but he seems a competent actor and he's not a huge star. Yay obscurity. Plus, he has a rather All-American look to him.

[identity profile] duffnstuff.livejournal.com 2008-06-24 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
The more I see Mark Valley, the more I want him for Cap. I saw a lot of his early stuff, and he has that cool, American confidence that, as a non-american, I want to see from Cap. And as much as I adore Jamie Bamber...I'm starting to feel like he's a little too soft-spoken.

Gah anticipation1

[identity profile] simmysim.livejournal.com 2008-06-24 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
My wager is that they're gonna go for a younger fellow, regardless of how Tony (and Bruce?) have been aged, to emphasize the naivety and the fact that he was preserved for so long. Older guy coming back from 1940s isn't as impressive as a guy in his 20s from 1940, BUT OBVIOUSLY I am not high on the list of people getting news about this. I'm really hoping they go for a lesser known.

I think I heard some news that the Cap movie would be set in WW2 or something, so maybe young guy wouldn't be that off?

Pick agreement/ Big Star vs. Unknown/ Thor and Antman

[identity profile] anonymiss731.livejournal.com 2008-06-25 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
To many of these guys (and others) are to old now to play a good Cap. Grr.

I'm gonna have to agree with the majority here. Either Aaron needs to be gotten from the clutches of DC or Heath needs to be necromanced. I must say though, I wouldn't be disappointed with Penikett, Valley or fire_tears Lewis in the comments.

It's so awesome that people are really thinking about this. I'm seeing a big divide in Big Star vs. Unknown. As usual I'm torn. A celebrity could open up the movie to people that normally wouldn't go and at least guarantee some box office command. But an unknown would have no chance of overshadowing the character. There are other drawbacks and benefits to both I'm sure.

BIG QUESTION: Anybody thinking about Thor or Antman picks?

Re: Pick agreement/ Big Star vs. Unknown/ Thor and Antman

[identity profile] viloki9.livejournal.com 2008-06-25 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Thor - Someone British. Because the way he talks would totally not work with an American accent. Mm... can we start listing brit boys please? XD

Ant-Man (Wright says it'll be Scott Lang, not Pym) - I trust Edgar Wright's casting ability.

Re: Pick agreement/ Big Star vs. Unknown/ Thor and Antman

[identity profile] anonymiss731.livejournal.com 2008-06-26 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
I'll agree with the British thing...if only because it's one of my favorite accents. I can't think of any British actors diesel enough though. But I would never have thought Tobey Maguire could get all buff for that mirror scene in Spider-man I, so maybe someone I least expect can do it.

Honestly for ages Triple H from WWE has had a nomination for Thor but only looks wise. Just watch Blade III and he cancels himself out acting wise.

I don't know much about Scott!Antman to put out a name with confidence. So I'll just have to be trusting too. I barely remember Pym. I hope Antman doesn't fail the way Daredevil did with the obscurity and bad picking based on trying to carry a movie with celebrity.

[identity profile] silver-autumn.livejournal.com 2008-06-25 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Karl Urban could really pull off Thor.

Re: Pick agreement/ Big Star vs. Unknown/ Thor and Antman

[identity profile] anonymiss731.livejournal.com 2008-06-26 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
Everyone at my house is agreeing he would be a good Thor. Agreement almost never happens, so awesome pick! ^___________^

Re: Pick agreement/ Big Star vs. Unknown/ Thor and Antman

[identity profile] anonymiss731.livejournal.com 2008-06-26 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
I checked the boards at the imdb.com page for Thor. They're asking the same questions as us. I see a few likely ones. Karl Urban has some votes. David Wenham and Ray Winstone were mentioned. Kevin Durand has a few to many people liking him for my taste. And OMFG! Someone said Val Kilmer. I think people just want him back in tights because regardless of the hero he is always mentioned. It's hysterical.

[identity profile] johnlennonlvclt.livejournal.com 2008-06-25 05:11 pm (UTC)(link)
If Val Kilmer buffed up, which is totally possible, that would kick ass!

Yaknow, I just can't imagine anybody else but this guy: Neal McDonough, who played "Buck" Compton (har de har har... Bucky) in Band of Brothers.

Here are some pics:
