For the third week of our Cap-Ironman 10 Years of MCU celebrations, we are looking at Steve and Tony’s adventures after The Avengers. This week, we’ll be watching and discussing Iron Man 3 and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Steve and Tony both have a lot going on in their lives right now.

A few ideas to kick off the discussion:
  • What what your favourite moment in Iron Man 3 and Captain America: The Winter Soldier

  • How have Steve and Tony changed since they were first introduced?

  • Anything else you want to comment on!

If you haven't already, check out the amazing works created in homage to Captain America: The First Avenger and The Avengers! If you're feeling inspired and would like to create tribute pieces of your own, we'd love to see it! Share it below, on the community, add it to the 10 Years of Cap-IronMan AO3 Collection, or post it on Tumblr with the tag #capim10yearsofmcu!

For the second week of our Cap-Ironman 10 Years of MCU celebrations, we are looking at Steve’s origin, and also the first time that Steve and Tony meet! This week, we’ll be watching and discussing Captain America: The First Avenger and The Avengers. Our heroes are growing, and coming together as a team (or at least trying to.)

A few ideas to kick off the discussion:
  • What what your favourite moment in Captain America and The Avengers?

  • What aspects of Steve’s character stand out to you?

  • What do you think is going through Steve and Tony’s heads the first time they meet?

  • Anything else you want to comment on!

Some of you might have caught a preview, some of you might get to see it today or later this week and some of you might still be waiting. So here is the place to talk about Captain America: Civil War. You can jump in at any time after you've seen the movie - or before if you don't mind spoilers.

As the poster below states, for much of the world the movie won't be released for another week, so keep in mind our temporary spoiler policy for posting to the community outside of this post.

Civil_War_Final_Poster.jpg

Let’s have at it!

This is the place where anyone who has seen it can jump right in and share their thoughts, tears and reactions or share links to reviews they found interesting. This is very much not a spoiler free post, so read comments at your own peril.

Short version: Please spoiler-cut allCaptain America: Civil War spoilers until May 28th, so everyone had a fair chance to see it.

Long version: After all the trailers we are finally getting to see Captain America: Civil War - but as always release dates in countries might differ, so please keep in mind that while the Internet is going to explode with spoilers, not everyone has the chance to see the movie right away.

For this comm, we ask that posters take responsibility for cutting spoilers for Captain America: Civil War until May 28th: please use LJ spoiler-cuts or blacked out text on any spoilers in summaries, discussion, etc, and if you're posting a fanwork that contains spoilers for it then please clearly indicate this somewhere in your header or description. If you're commenting in a post that does not indicate spoilers, then please also spoiler-cut your comments as appropriate; if the post is marked as containing spoilers, however, then the comments are fair game. In the IRC chat, as always please take spoilery discussion to the secondary #cap-im-spoilers channel. More information about how to log onto chat, can be found here.

We are going to put up a discussion posts this week where everyone who has already seen the movie can jump into spoilery discussions to their hearts content. So stay tuned and bring your thoughts!

After May 28th, spoiler-cuts are no longer mandatory, but do please consider that other community members may still not have seen the movie and act accordingly. This community is generally nice about spoilers, so let’s keep up the courteous behavior and not spoil(er) anyone’s fun.

Captain America Winter Soldier has been out for a while in North America and even longer in Europe and other places in the world. So, let's have a Cap 2 chat today. Also, if any RBB people want some cheerleaders or support that's welcome as well. Just be aware that the IRC channel will be full of Cap 2 spoilers in all likelihood.

The #cap-im IRC channel is on dal.net. If you’re using a regular client the server is irc.dal.net and the channel is #cap-im. Below there are two web based options to use if you don't have or want to use an irc client.

DALnet itself runs one. You can get to it be going to http://www.dal.net. On the right where it says “chat now”, choose your nick and enter #cap-im as the channel. If you reach a prompt without joining the channel, type: /join #cap-im and the DALnet one isn't working.

Another option is https://kiwiirc.com/client. Type in the nickname you wish to use. The channel name is #cap-im. There will be a little blue link that opens up the server and network info. Click on that and enter irc.dal.net as the server and 6667 as the port. Here is an example of what it looked like when I filled it out.

Seen Winter Soldier?  Want to talk about it?  This is the place!  We ask that you contain all movie discussion to the comments of this post.  Spoilers are of course welcome, so if you haven't seen it and don't want to be spoiled, proceed at your own risk.

Because I love Steve Rogers very, very much, because I'm a dialogue obsessive and because I found him frustratingly hard to write, last year, after Captain America: The First Avenger came out, I made an audio dialogue file of all his most important lines.

Analyzed and linked here are Steve's most important lines of dialogue from Captain America: The First Avenger, as an aid to writers who want to write Movieverse Steve*. At less than 10% of the runtime of the movie, this counts as fair use for educational purposes.
This post was created with the transcription aid of [livejournal.com profile] yunafire.

Analysis:

Because Steve Rogers, even before the serum, never hesitates to tell anyone what he thinks, it's easy to miss the fact that he doesn't actually talk very much. He always makes his opinions known and he's happy to talk with friends, but he doesn't need as many words to do it. Captain America has fewer lines in his own movie than Black Widow has in The Avengers.

Because of this, and because it shows him in a wider variety of moods and contexts than The Avengers, I've decided to transcribe and analyze his dialogue in Captain America: The First Avenger instead of The Avengers.

Steve tends to speak in short, slightly choppy phrases and sentences, and is prone to dropping unnecessary words, particularly at the beginning of sentences. (Not always, but generally.) See: "You start running, they'll never let you stop. You stand up, push back. Can't say no forever, right?" and "Got hit, couldn't shake it." Much of the humor and emotional content of his speech is carried entirely by tone of voice, which, while not wildly dramatic, is extremely expressive. His joking tone is wry when he's feeling down, sly when he isn't and usually self-deprecating either way.

More analysis, a dialogue transcript and accompanying audio file here.

* All analysis is only intended to apply to Steve Rogers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, not any other incarnation of Steve Rogers.

For those of you in select cities in the US, AMC Theatres will be hosting a movie marathon beginning at 11:30am on May 3, showing Iron Man, Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America and finally culminating with the midnight release of the Avengers on May 4. In case that wasn't enough, you also get a free pair of character 3d glasses!

I already bought my tickets!

Universe: Movie
Rating: PG (Swearing in the commentary I included because I like to swear *shrugs*)
Warnings: Aside from the swear words, nothing really. Maybe Captain America spoilers if you have yet to see the film.

A mixed pile of slashers, ficcers and Captain America fans is having an evening, after-work expedition to eat good Chinese food and then see Captain America THIS THURSDAY! Seriously, it doesn't matter if you've never met me or any of the other guests at this before - the more the merrier!

Dinner is at Grand Sichuan at St Marks at 6:30. (23 St. Marks, a block from the Astor Place subway) Yes, they specialize in spicy, but I'm a wimp and can testify to the tastiness of their non-spicy foods. They also have vegetarian options. Better yet, they like geeks (they're the traditional afterparty for the monthly KGB readings), they're set up for groups, and they encourage family-style sharing for the table! (Keeps the price down)

We will then proceed to the AMC Empire 25 theater for the 8pm show, NOT IN 3D, Buy your tickets ahead of time, people, or I am not responsible for your miserable fate!

You can have dinner and no movie! We're happy to have you! You can have movie and no dinner, that's cool too! Mix and match time!

I thought I would post this here on the comm so that people can check it out.  Apparently Marvel is adding to the hype of Cap's movie by debuting a digital comicbook tie-in which will be available to DL (the first part anyways) at CaptainAmerica.com during Superbowl Sunday.  It's also supposed to give in clues how it ties into Ironman 2 and Thor.  You can take a look at the 2 page preview Over Here
Hmm, my first impression is Ultimate Cap [grins] but the...thought bubble...made me laugh and go maybe not.
