cap_ironman | 2021 Cap-Iron Man Remix Exchange Guidelines

The Cap-IM Remix Exchange is a fanwork exchange where participants are assigned to another creator to choose and remix at least one of their available Stevetony works. Your remixer can remix any of your eligible fanworks (aside from one "safe work" per format of your choosing).

HOW CAN I JOIN?

You must be 18 or older to participate in this challenge.

To sign up to the exchange, you must have an Archive of Our Own account and at least 3 eligible works in a given format. You can sign up to be remixed in multiple formats, as long as you meet the minimum requirements for each format.

Eligible works must be:

Focused on Steve and Tony's relationship (whether platonic or romantic)
Complete and stand-alone works
Publicly posted (if not on AO3, accessible elsewhere)

Eligible works must not be:

Set solely in an ambiguous Marvel universe
Crossovers or fusions, even across Marvel universes
Co-created with anyone (i.e. where multiple people collaborated to create a single work)
A remix of another work
A podfic of someone else's work

Eligibility requirements are the minimum sign-up requirements so that your remixer has enough choice to work with.

Remixers can remix any of your Stevetony works as long as they are not works in progress, co-created works, previously remixed works, a podfic of someone else's work, or a "safe work".

You have the option of designating one "safe work" per format which your remixer is not allowed to remix. This work cannot count towards your eligibility.

Format-Specific Sign-Up Requirements

Artwork: at least 3 complete traditional or digital artworks (manips, gifs and edits are not eligible) on unlined paper.
Fanvid: at least 3 eligible fanvids, each at least 30 seconds long.
Fic: at least 3 eligible fics, each at least 1000 words.
Podfic: at least 3 podfics of your own work, each at least 1000 words.

When you sign up, you are committing to producing at least one remix of one of the works of the participant that you are matched to.

Format-Specific Fill Requirements

At least 1 traditional or digital artwork (manips, gifs and edits are not eligible) on unlined paper.
A fanvid at least 30 seconds long.
A fanfic of at least 1000 words.
A podfic of at least 1000 words.

REQUESTS
In the "Request" section, please select the Fandoms (Marvel universes available in the tag set) that correspond with the 3 eligible works you are signing up with. You may select the Fandoms that apply to all your eligible works to be matched on those Fandoms.

Example 1: You have 3 eligible fics that all take place in the MCU. You should select the 'Marvel Cinematic Universe' Fandom tag only. You also have 3 eligible fanvids that are based on 616. If you want to sign up for both formats, you should also select the 'Marvel 616' Fandom tag.

Example 2: You have 5 eligible artworks, each belonging to a different Fandom. You must select at least 3 of the Fandom tags that your artworks belong to, but can select up to all 5 corresponding tags.

Example 3: You have lots of eligible works across multiple Fandoms. You have at least 3 Avengers Assemble fics that are eligible for the Exchange. You may, if you wish, only select the 'Avengers Assemble' Fandom tag (but are welcome to tag as many eligible Fandoms as you'd like).

Matching is based on the following Fandoms:

After matches are made, remixers can remix any of your Stevetony works in any format as long as they are not:

Works in progress
Co-created works (i.e. where multiple people collaborated to create a single work. RBBs and BBs do not count as co-created)
Previously remixed works
A podfic of someone else's work
Your "safe work" for each format

LINK TO FANWORKS
In the "Link" section, you need to provide a link to all your Steve/Tony works — AO3, Livejournal, Dreamwidth, Youtube, FFnet etc. — and it must be easily accessible to anyone (not membership-locked).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Please list the fanwork types that you are signing up for (e.g. I have eligible fanfic and podfic works).

Please list all the fanworks that your remixer cannot remix:

Please list each work individually or link to collections/series of works (e.g. an AO3 collection of all your remixes).

If you would like to have your work remixed into a language other than English, please list all languages that you would be happy to receive a remix in (note that we cannot guarantee that you will receive a remix in any of your listed languages).

OFFER
In the "Offer" section, you should only select the Fandoms that you would be comfortable remixing.

We do not match on work formats. By signing up, you should be fine with creating a remix (in whatever eligible format you like) of any work format. If you are unable to remix certain formats (e.g. if you cannot parse podfic, or you are at risk of seizures if you watch fanvid with flashing lights), please let us know in this section.

Please also list any languages other than English that you would be happy to create a remix in. Note that this is optional, and we cannot guarantee that you will have the opportunity to create a remix in a different language.

You will receive your assignment no later than 26 December. You must keep your assignment a secret until creator reveals, or risk being disqualified from the challenge.

I HAVE MY ASSIGNMENT! NOW WHAT?

To fulfill your assignment, pick one of your match's works to remix. You may choose a story of any canon and word length (crossovers included).

You cannot remix any of the following:

Your match's safe work
A WiP
A previously written remix
A co-created work (i.e. where multiple people collaborated to create a single work. RBBs and BBs do not count as co-created)
A podfic that your match has created for a story which they have not written
A work that is not focused on Steve Rogers and Tony Stark

All remixes must be based on one of your match’s works and cannot:

Change the core elements
Change the relationships (Steve/Tony and background ships)

Minimum Requirements for a Fill

At least 1 traditional or digital artwork (manips, gifs and edits are not eligible) on unlined paper.
A fanvid at least 30 seconds long.
A fanfic of at least 1000 words.
A podfic of at least 1000 words.

You may create longer works, and as many works as you want, after you fulfill the minimum requirement for your remix.

All works must be focused on Steve and Tony's relationship, whether it is platonic or romantic. If there is romance, then the focus should be on Steve and Tony's relationship and Steve/Tony should be the "endgame" if other background relationships are included.

This is not a gift exchange in the way that the Holiday Exchange is — you are creating a story that is new and your own, rather than catering to the tastes of your match. That said, bear in mind that the author of the original work will have their name attached to yours and your work will be directly connected to theirs. Do not use your remix to bash the original work or attack the creator. Do not make fun of their stories, kinks, side pairings, etc. The challenge is creativity — rise to it!

To fulfill your assignment, upload your work to the 2021 Captain America/Iron Man Remix Exchange collection by 7 February. Your submission will automatically appear as an anonymous “Mystery Gift” for your assignment match.

Please link to the original story as a related work when posting on AO3, under the 'Associations' section: "This work is a remix, a translation, a podfic, or was inspired by another work." Detailed instructions on how to do this can be found here.

For further help using AO3, please refer to our AO3 Guide for guidelines on how to fulfill an assignment, upload your work to a collection, and more.

Your assignment must pass the bus test when you post it to the collection (if you were hit by a bus 5 minutes after posting, the mods would have a finished work that they could reveal, and not need to look for a pinch hitter).

Please do not upload incomplete works. The mods check all works right after the deadline, and incomplete stories will be rejected and counted as post-deadline defaults if you have not contacted us to ask for an extension beforehand.

WHAT IF I CAN'T MAKE THE DEADLINE?

If you realize at any time that you won’t be able to finish your work, please hit the “Default” button on your assignment as soon as possible. You can find your assignments under archiveofourown.org/users/YOURUSERNAME/assignments .

There is no penalty for dropping out before the exchange deadline, so please default as soon as you know you won't be able to fulfill your assignment! This lets us know that you won't be able to finish your remix so we can look for a pinch hitter.

Dropping out after the deadline will result in a temporary ban from exchange and collab Cap-IM events. More information on what that entails and how it can be lifted can be found here.

You can ask for an extension by emailing the mods at cap.im.events@gmail.com before the exchange deadline. You must provide a draft of your work in progress when requesting an extension.

PINCH-HITTING

If a participant has to drop out, we will need pinch-hitters to step in and fulfill their assignment! Also, in the event that we have issues matching someone, that assignment will go out as a pinch-hit right away. If you don’t want to sign up for the challenge, but still want to participate, or if you’re willing to create more than one remix work, please consider signing up as a pinch hitter or join Remix Madness.

POSTING AND REVEALS

Stories from all our remix challenges will be revealed from 16 February onward.

Remember to thank your remixer when stories go up. Remixees know the original best and will best appreciate the remix. Participants will be eager to hear what their remixee thinks of the story, and courtesy dictates that you acknowledge when someone engages with your work! Be gracious.

Remixes will be revealed in stages. Remember to maintain your anonymity until after your work has been revealed.

You are welcome and encouraged to link, share and recommend works while they are still anonymous, as long as you do not reveal who the creators are when doing so! After creators have been revealed, you are welcome to crosspost and share your works anywhere.
