other superhero identities for Steve and Tony

This is something of a random discussion topic, but I was pondering the idea the other day and I can't resist inviting other people to weigh in.

If, for some random reason, Steve wasn't "Captain America" and Tony wasn't "Iron Man" and they had different identities, what would those superhero identities be? What would their costumes look like?

Would Tony's alter ego still be openly tech focused, or would he use tech to create a new theme? If so, what theme? Would Steve be patriotic, or try something totally different? Heck, assume that Steve isn't patriotic, since there are already way too many variations on that theme. What's another identity that could suit him?

My brain keeps wanting to put them in complimentary costumes--possibly something in blue and green--and have them fight crime as official partners. But my brain won't cough up actual themes for them. Wait...brain and brawn! Bwa ha ha ha ha! Okay, so I had an Anne McCaffrey flashback there. *g*

I don't think Tony is...Vetinari enough to be Vetinari. He feels like he should be, in current comics canon he's been trying to be, but he just doesn't have the inherent Vetinari-ness of which it was said, "It was like being a puppet, only he got you to pull your own strings."

Omgyes such a Black Ribboner! Thereby handily combining his obsessive nature and his issues with addiction into one batty package!

Fury really is Vimes. Certainly no one else is badass enough for the job.

This is both wonderful and horrible at the same time.

Vetinari was the immediate reaction but, yeah, not quite right.

And now BlackRibboner!Tony and 616!Cap are having conversations in my head. It's...weird.

And now I just wanna see Vimes and Fury facing off in an Alt!Verse crossover. The snark...the bastardry...the cloud of cigar smoke!

But there would so be Face Off before Team Up. They're too Alpha to do otherwise.

Meanwhile, Carrot and Cap would be looking confused and Tony would be flirting with Angua.
