Question

Ok so long story short, I and [livejournal.com profile] ellyr_in_ink were looking up the invaders and in the wiki article on them down at the bottom there was this info about the current 2008-2009 series:

Basically we are both now going WTF and wondering if anyone as more into on the invaders series because -

According to Ross, who will be doing covers and design work for the series, it is a series that will return the young WW2 Captain America (Steve Rogers) to modern continuity, along with the other four original Invaders created in 1940s: Human Torch, Toro, Bucky, and Namor.

Wha? We had thought Time Traveling Steve was temporary. Is he staying? Does that mean this is how they are bringing Steve back and he and Tony will have to start all over from scratch. We are currently very very confused. Help?

In conclusion, should we be buying this?

Well, I found the issues in the web (I'm italian, so the mini would come here in a year or two).
And... they are very confusing, and I suspect that they are from not!616-verse, because I could not see how they could put them in the current main-verse.
Because Bucky and Namor are still present in the main-verse (in fact...)

Well, there is Tony angsting over Steve when Steve is tied with metal tentacles, so um, IDK?

Anyway, last week #6 came out and we're at half the series, and I still don't understand where they are going with it, or if where it is in the current continuity. But while Tony is all for mantaining the time-continuum and sending the Invaders back where they come from, I fear Cap!Bucky is going to screw up things and possibly change history.

Also, everybody seems to beat Tony up. Except Steve. To whom Tony apologizes in two panels full of emo! (If you're interested, I made a recap (http://dorcas-gustine.livejournal.com/94367.html#cutid1)). And Steve understands. Sort of.

(There's also some Torch&Toro angst in the middle. And Invaders!Bucky is a crazy teenager with a machine gun, but we knew that already!)

The art is pretty and it has the potential of being really good, so I'd say yes to the buying.

I'm actually just waiting on the trade.

From what I've gathered, it's like Savage Land territory, so I guess it won't really be an imprint on the 616 universe, not like Secret Invasion anyway. Speaking of which, is that crossover done yet?

Crimney.

Its Avengers/Invaders. Its 6 issues into a 12 issue run. I have no idea if it's going to be permanent, but they're trying to send them home for the sake of the time/space continuum. The Cosmic Cube brought them forward so.... but its definitely worth picking up.

I am super confused about all of that, especially since past!Steve showed up in Burbaker's Captain America run (issue 42, he helped save Sharon from getting herself blown up) and then just ran off at the end of the issue while angsting. If I remember correctly, we never really found out what happened to him, so he could still be out there.

I don't think they'd use WWII!Steve as their way of bringing him back. After all, it's a different set of writers, isn't it? (Please tell me it is!) And Brubaker really seems to be focusing in fleshing out Bucky as the new Captain America. So it won't be a while until we see Steve really come back (now, when it gets time for the Captain America movie to be released, then we need to start worrying/wondering).

WWII!Steve could have some PART in bringing present!Steve back... after all, there was that whole business with taking AU!Tony's heart for 616-Tony or something complicated like that.

Anyways, time traveling Steve is most likely just temporary for this mini issue... especially if he has Bucky with him. That would cause A LOT of problems for the current Bucky, who seems to have enough on his plate already.

It's a very good series so far. I doubt they're going to keep Steve there though, seeing as it would rip a whole in the space-time continuum [see first arc of Young Avengers for more information on fatal paradoxes]. It's been focusing a lot on how the two Avengers teams are dealing with the problem separately -- with the Mighties trying to keep the Invaders isolated so they don't take any information that might change the future back with them and the News running around and showing Toro his grave. Oh, yes, and Touch has been bounding with the SHIELD LMDs.

I've been enjoying it and I'd really recommend picking it up, whether in issues or in TPB, but I don't think it's going to be the gateway to bringing back real!Steve.
