CURIOUS

I made the following for a friend, to help clear her mind of bad art. It got me curious. The art is different for every arc, so we get a different Tony and a different Steve every few issues, but most people who read fic, or even just think about characters while they aren't reading comics, have a picture in their head that is their own representation of the character.

alright I decided to change them to links since they're stretching the screen and I hate that :||

Tony in my head collage. I thought I preferred Tony with a more long/lanky/angular look but uh lol apparently not!

Steve in my head collage.

Steve didn't surprise me at all, I am very aware that I like him to look like a fucking tank. xD
I was gonna be more comprehensive but life D:

Who is Tony and who is Steve in your head? What are your favorite looks? There are so many different variations of these guys, I'm really curious to see what some of you picture when you write and read!

I'm also of the tall/lanky/angular school for Tony. This is going to be the weirdest comparison ever, but I picture him as a more attractive/groomed Gordon Freeman (from Half-Life), only with the right hair color. (I have a feeling that's mostly because I started playing H-L right around when I picked up IM, so my wires may have gotten crossed. Dude with a suit and van dyke who can kill you with SCIENCE? Yeah, could be either of them.) Sort of how he's drawn in those panels with Ru. (Although his hair's always shorter in my head)

As for Steve, because my brain gets in the way of comic book science sometimes, I tend to think of him with a narrower face (BUT THE EPIC CHIN!) just because changing muscle mass and whatnot is one thing, but the SSS shouldn't have been able to change his whole bone structure. I love (and picture him as) how he was drawn during the arc in NA dealing with the Sentry back in like 05 (which are the pictures you've got of him in the blue t-shirt with the white collar.) So mildly tank like, but still in a really odd, odd way slightly bony. That doesn't even make sense, so pretend it does? :D

Either way, I tend to picture them both as less comic book and more real life when I write, just because it's what my brain defaults to. (SORTA!LONG COMMENT IS SORTA!LONG, SORRY. D:)

Oh man, I've never made the Freeman comparison before, wow. Now I can't stop thinking about it. I think the reason I never saw it was that I always saw Freeman as a little bit awkward, where Tony is kind of the opposite of that. But yeah I can see where you're coming from.

That's my favourite Steve too!

AND YEAH, when I'm writing/reading, I'm picturing real life versions of my favourite drawn Steves and Tonys. No one who hasn't been in a drawn fandom understands that. :D

[identity profile] smilingskull.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
I KNOW, RIGHT? The first time I noticed it I was like "Ok, now I can't unsee it." But yeah, Tony's like a million times more suave/less awkward. I don't even want to know what would happen if you put Freeman in the same room with a Maxim model. (CROWBAR!)

Everyone once and a while I'll find myself picturing Tony with the GODDAMN GLASSES and it just gets hella confusing. Especially since Tony wouldn't have gone anywhere near glasses like that, not even in the 80's. (Although there was the pink shirt...)

Then I bring you this: glasses! (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/4/44/Gordon_Freeman_-_Valve_Concept_Art_-_Walking_with_a_crowbar_-_cropped.jpeg)

I so need to do a manip and make his suit red and gold.

I keep picturing Tony wailing on his enemies with a crowbar and I cannot stop laughing. Oh gosh I have to replay HL tomorrow.

HAHA OH GOD THAT'S THE BEST MENTAL IMAGE EVER. Especially since in my head he's wearing the armor and the rest of the team is going "... did you repulsors run out of juice or something? Tony? Tony, you're scaring us."

[identity profile] onewayfreak.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
He just wanted to try a more hands-on approach, and has been playing too many video games. This Freeman fellow seems to be onto something.

[identity profile] smilingskull.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
In my head he plays Half-Life and Gears of War and likes yelling at the screen when they get they get the science wrong. And watches just a little bit too much Mythbusters. (There is no way that Tony's not a closet geek like that.)

And watches just a little bit too much Mythbusters.
OMG YES THERE NEEDS TO BE FIC ABOUT THAT!

LIKE, RIGHT NOW.

POSSIBLY WITH EXPLOSIONS AND A DISAPPROVING JARVIS!

I ACTUALLY KINDA SORTA WROTE THAT ALREADY. It was super short though, and had disapproving Pepper instead, hehe. :D

WANTWANTWANTWANT!

[identity profile] onewayfreak.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
Oh man there's no way he's a closet geek, he wears that shit proud. He makes everyone who's anywhere near the living room come in and sit down when Mythbusters is on, and makes bets with them over which myths will be busted and which will be confirmed. And he is so triumphant when he's right despite the fact that by that time, everyone but Peter, who's actually interested, and Steve, who's too amused by Tony's excitement to leave, has escaped. He gloats to them later about his being right, and they don't even remember what he's talking about.

[identity profile] smilingskull.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
Dude, I feel like those two need to spend more time watching science TV/playing video games. 8D

[identity profile] prettyarbitrary.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 03:15 pm (UTC)(link)
And Pym, who will absolutely take those bets because he knows SCIENCE! too!

Only they always end up agreeing on how it'll come out, because they're too smart for their own good.

And then they start geek-talking, and everybody else runs for the hills when they break out the mirror-lasers to test for themselves because Mythbusters GOT IT TOTALLY WRONG!OMG!

Except Thor, who wants to watch because he thinks he could totally get the dwarven smiths to build that s***.

[identity profile] onewayfreak.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL YES Tony and Hank are the reason they have myths revisited shows. They talk about all the mail they get complaining about their experiments, but what they don't mention is that it actually comes exclusively from two whackjobs at some place called Stark Tower.

[identity profile] prettyarbitrary.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
This is now my canon!

[identity profile] ouri.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
(which are the pictures you've got of him in the blue t-shirt with the white collar.)

Yes! Frank Cho's Steve is tasty, indeed. ♥

[identity profile] ouri.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
I only wish I'd liked his take on Tony half so well as his Steve. *sigh*

[identity profile] onewayfreak.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
Aww, I always thought his Tony was super cute in a dorky, over-dressed rich boy kind of way.
