CURIOUS

I made the following for a friend, to help clear her mind of bad art. It got me curious. The art is different for every arc, so we get a different Tony and a different Steve every few issues, but most people who read fic, or even just think about characters while they aren't reading comics, have a picture in their head that is their own representation of the character.

alright I decided to change them to links since they're stretching the screen and I hate that :||

Tony in my head collage. I thought I preferred Tony with a more long/lanky/angular look but uh lol apparently not!

Steve in my head collage.

Steve didn't surprise me at all, I am very aware that I like him to look like a fucking tank. xD
I was gonna be more comprehensive but life D:

Who is Tony and who is Steve in your head? What are your favorite looks? There are so many different variations of these guys, I'm really curious to see what some of you picture when you write and read!

For real

The first time I saw Ult Tony, I was like, WTF, fug! I know that he's supposed to be mortally ill and blah blah blah, but mortally ill doesn't equal fug. Tony Stark is supposed to have a face like a fallen angel.

I put down the Ultimates because Tony was fug.It made me so miserably sad. Brain tumor doesn't equal ugly. There are plenty of attractive people who have brain tumors.

I feel like you and I have made a real connection here.

Dude, people have married for less

Yeah, I put down the Ultimates too, but then someone bought me a few trades and I powered through them. I literally wince when I see Stark man, because I've known him as like, incandescent in his hotness (to think I thought the Tom Selleck stache and perm was bad). But Ultimates has it's own charms... but I do hope the next artist gets a clue.

Tony needs to be so hot, he makes women's panties dissolve at fifty paces.

The unhealthy amount of sexual attraction I have for this man who doesn't even really exist (except for in my own world where I roleplay as him) is just... amazing.

And then they have to take it away.

Don't even start me on the perm and stach. I hate the 70s.

LOL

Actually, Tony's been through some dodgy incarnations over the years. I do like the look that he's rocked from 2003 to now though - shorter hair since it tends to spring into curls and corkscrews when longer (see him circa mid 90s and the Trevor Fitzroy hair), I also like the van dyke facial scaping, because it takes a certain sort of man to carry that off without it looking like a ponce.

I've always liked looking at Stark, because I think with him being shades of metrosexual, he has fun with his look in a way that most men in the Marvel U don't. I like the fact that Tony likes to wear suits, but will rock an aran sweater and some slacks. Stark is open to changing up his look in a way that other guys don't or can't. Stark is bad. ass.

I really like him, in a way that I could never do with Steve. Which is why my fanfic is kicking my arse. I want to write Tony but Steve is trying to get a look in. I can't write him, so I'm telling him to be gone.

Agreed again, couldn't have put it better myself you know this drill, we've done it before.

But I think even worse for me than the perm, because everyone needs to learn from that mistake at least once and Stark is no exception, is that fade he had for a while. What the hell was that? If I was Rumiko I'd have been like... grow your hair out and then we'll talk. Disgraceful.

Haha, I have no Steve voice at all... which is why he is probably sucktastic in my fic. But whatever. I'll be fine playing Tony for the rest of my life... which is weird because somehow it's translated to real life when my ex said I reminded her of him after seeing the movie. And my Starkness intensified.

I... liked the Fitzroy wedge *laughs*

[identity profile] jazzypom.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean, it was the nineties, it was an innocent time, and the facial scaping prevented it from looking too poncey. He couldn't wear it now, because the naughties is a different time. But I like the look because it captures a time.

which is weird because somehow it's translated to real life when my ex said I reminded her of him after seeing the movie.

Oy. RDJ really impressed me. Like, really, really, really impressed me with the Starkness. Props to the director who was brought up on the comic and the screen writers.

When's the second IM movie coming out, btw?

[identity profile] empty-splendor.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I've never been a fan of the fade style on anyone. It's just goofy. But again, if anyone can marginally make it work...

RDJ, I loved him before IM and after I considered becoming him.

I believe 2 is slated for May of 2010, same year as Thor and then Captain America and Avengers will be in 2011. So we have a year of hype for IM 2 to look forward to, and two years of Avengers and Cap hype.

May I friend you? I think I'm in love. (or as close as I'm willing to admit to such)

I'll friend you

[identity profile] jazzypom.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
The thing is, I stopped using my LJ ages ago (I was in the HP fandom), and I only use it for posting fic on this comm. :D' I'll friend you because I read my flist. Are you on twitter? I'm jazzypom I'm like, there everyday.

I don't know if Twitter works on Mac. I use ichat which essentially is AIM.

But I'm not opposed to new messenger systems. I am a fan of chatting with people about random things in replacement for doing important things.
ext_18328: (Default)

Ah, so that was AIM is

[identity profile] jazzypom.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I tend to twitter stuff about Tony Stark, and bitch about the fanfic I'm writing. It was supposed to be 100k, but I'll be lucky if I can get 25k of fic that I actually like. I've done 5k (that I like), am an another 5k (but side eyeing Steve because he wants a part of that action, and that ain't gonna fly. I just haven't told Captain Underpants as yet).

Fun, it is. I'm also knitting socks. Oy.

Well I will check out this twitter thing and send you a little message when I figure it out. I've got nothing important to do today (which means I actually have a lot of important things to do today) so it'll be a time filler.

IF you ever use instant messenger. I am literally on it all the time. I also have yahoo messenger.
ext_18328: (Default)

Ah, I'm on gmail messenger

[identity profile] jazzypom.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
It doesn't crash or act up like my bloody MSM, and yahoo is problematic. I tend to be on gmail and twitter most times. Or reading online comics, and looking at twenty pages of longhand Stark fic to type on my google documents.

Once you go gmail, boy...

I do has the gmail! We should gmail messenger sometime. My email address is..

they.took.my.freakin.kidney@gmail.com

iChat has been faithfully behaved. It sometimes has it's issues and I tell it to stop being such a bitch and it behaves again.

I just did one of them there twitter things. User name is: drawinginfinity

Word. I blame Dumas for my sekrit liking for Van Dyke goatees (Aramis has been my fictional boyfriend since approximately the age of eleven).

I have a certain fondness for the godawful perm era, too -- one of the occasional character descruption argument I get into with [livejournal.com profile] seanchai is that I think of Tony with naturally wavy hair and she think of him as straight-haired. We agree on the cheekbones, though. The cheekbones are key. Also the ridiculously long eyelashes.

And his volume 3 ribbed sweaters are love (Steve, I think, may wear brightly colored red & green Christmas sweaters in the winter, much to Tony's consternation - not that a man who's worn pink "Superstar" tracksuits and purple ascots has any room to criticize).
ext_18328: (Default)

Tony's approach to fashion is very European in a way

Heh. I just tie that look to Tony's metrosexuality. There's a certain 'fun' that the artist can do with Tony looks and clothing wise, and it will work. Whilce Portatio had Tony Stark in this random bolero top, I mean, random (but that's Portatio) but it worked, because it was Tony Stark. So I tend to see him as well, someone who's fashion forward enough to try new looks, and is willing to get it wrong. That's something I see with the Europeans that you don't get so much with American men.

Yeah, I do think of Tony's hair as wavy, because I grow up on 70s and 80s Stark with the thick, wavy hair, and that's why when Portatio had his hair spiralling into corkscrews, I could see it. It worked for him, just as how the shorter hair works for him now. He keeps it short enough so that it doesn't wave or kink.

Like I said further down thread, Marvel Adventures Iron Man is my ideal look for Tony Stark, but I'm alright with the 90s too, because he had the van dyke and the curly hair.

[identity profile] elspethdixon.livejournal.com 2008-12-22 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
My first real intro to Iron Man was mainlining the entire drinking arc (from Demon in a Bottle through to Tony homeless on the street and then the whole Circuits Maximus era aftermath) a few years ago during one really bad week in February (I basically locked myself in my apartment the entire week with comics torrent downloads [livejournal.com profile] seanchai had sent me), so my formative Iron Man experience includes a lot of thick, wavy hair, lots of self-worth and depression issues on Tony's part, bad 80s clothing, and a bunch of covers like my icon.

Well, that, and the 1998 Captain America/Iron Man annual, which pretended to be about Steve & Tony fighting Modok on a desert island, but was actually about the two of them having a relationship fight.

Sorry?

That? Must have been a bad week. It's one thing to read IM monthly, but to have an entire fiction dump on you? Whoa, I say, whoa.

WHAAAT? Do you have a link, or file share so I can look at this, plz?

Cheers
