::raises hand:: Question for y'all, concerning the series of shortfics I've been working on.
I can't make polls, so tallying comments will have to do. Based on post-SI, who do you
A) think is most likely
or
B) prefer
to be the one to help Steve tackle the problem of trying to revive Tony's mind from the Extremis?
ETA: Thanks, guys! It looks like the current frontrunners are Pepper and Peter, and I may try to work others in, depending on how the next couple of chapters go.

And if Extremis is due to Tony trying to hide/delete the Registration DB, I can see Osborn trying to hunt Tony/Extremis down and get all the information he can.

I think if Steve were around, he'd lend whatever support he could to get that database deleted, because 1)he always opposed it and 2)the theft of the database has made Tony a marked man. However, it's really not Steve's area of expertise. Maya Hansen invented Extremis... but I kinda hope Tony doesn't turn to her, because Maya is shockingly easy to buy or blackmail, and she'd probably sell him out.
With every man's hand against Tony it sure would be nice if Steve came back... Tony's outnumbered and seriously short of friends.

Reed is a very good option and quite possibly still someone Tony trusts. I'd offer Hank Pym but yeah... Let's not go there. Maria and Pepper would be completely on Steve's side due to IM8 and Peter, oh god, Peter, I think maybe he could be of some help if he "wanted" to and if he was, it would be a big help for Steve.
Depending on what you think of Carol, considering I don't think she and Tony interacted at all post-SI, yet... she might be of some service.
Yeah, Maya is more amoral than anything

Carol is looking like she and Simon are being Hank's support, so you know that will be zero help there.
Peter, on the other hand, possibly might be the only actual source of help. He seemed during SI to be softening toward Tony and even more so in IIM7. If you're keeping current with IIM, though, Pepper might be a good choice. She can hook up to Extremis. It'll be a lot of comic book hand waving all the same, but she could possibly do it (see latest IIM issue for why I think that)
Maya, while possibly helpful, I believe is out of the question. She sold Tony, for all intents and purposes, to the Mandarin, his greatest enemy. You just don't do that

This is not what you asked, but...
She's the genius who invented Extremis. She could have used Extremis to make herself stronger, faster, healthier, even smarter. But to date, all of the Extremis test subjects we've seen are male. Mallen, Stark, Michael White, the unnamed "siblings" in Nebraska: all are male. No female character has reaped the benefits of the Extremis enhancile.
Also, despite her being a genius, she will never be recognized as one of the super-geniuses of the Marvel Universe, who are also all male. It doesn't matter if you're on the side of good (Reed Richards, Tony Stark, Hank Pym) or evil (Doctor Doom, the Mad Thinker); in order to be a super-genius, you need a dick as well as a brain.
Maya will never be in charge of her own decisions. She will always be under some man's thumb, whether it's the Mandarin, Tony Stark, Jack Kooning or someone else.
Who should be approached to solve a problem with Extremis? If Maya Hansen were male, 'he' would always be the first one named.

Reed... is a genius, yes, but a bad friend. I understand him keeping his head down because he has a family of his own to look after, but really, when everyone's blaming a friend of yours for something, and you were right there beside him every step of the way, the rules of friendship should make you speak up in his defence.

First, very much loving the fic second
. . . for me I'd love to see Peter. He's always under-estimated in the genius area and also depending on how you go with this and if you are writing around Brand New Day (or whatever that's called) Steve might know who Peter is given he was dead when the magic went down and it's at least plausible he'd not have been affected.
But I'm baised I adore Peter to little bits and loath Reed ^^;;;
Getting some magic users involved might also be interesting.
Pepper needs to be involved though tech wise I'm not sure what all she could do to help, but she would know Tony better than Peter and might be able to interact better or catalyze some Tony reactions better than Peter could, if that makes any sense.
