Captain America/Iron Man wiki

I've been thinking about this for several days and thought I'd ask the community what they thought.

Would anyone be interested in having a wiki focused on Captain America and Iron Man? It would be a great resource for new fans, and tracking down odd references and wouldn't be subject to the notability issues of the main wiki. It also be a good holding house for things like the slashy scans.

Plus I've noticed that we've got quite a few fan-verse going on, that could be documented as well.

Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions? Hot chocolate?

That would be really great!

I think that would be great. *gives hot chocolate*

I couldn't contribute much, but god, given all the insane back history, that'd be great!

Oh, always hot chocolate... and a wiki would be amazing. :)

Well, there is already the Fanlore articles (Steve (http://fanlore.org/wiki/Captain_America) and Tony (http://fanlore.org/wiki/Iron_Man)), though they could use more work. But something more in depth might be fun too.

Yes, that would make sense

Especially in most (if not all) of the Marvel U. Like, you have the 616, The Ultimate verse, some links to 1602 if any. It would also be nice to link to various related sources (like, they have this source that speaks of the religions that they belong to - Steve is Catholic, Tony is agnostic, iirc), and stuff like that.

I think a wiki would be a most excellent thing.

>> I... may be own my own here, but it's not canon. It's fanon. Canon means, literarily, that it is fact and cannot be altered. The term originated in relation to the BIBLE, which is complete canon and cannot be altered in any way shape or form. Having a section for different types of Fanon, I think would work, and have it only allowed to be edited by that fanon's creator (in terms of fic) makes the most sense. But I would also note that fanon can be different as well and extend to just the ideas fans hold for the chars.

Like..... Cable and Deapool for an example. Deadpool is talking at Cable's statue after a while and makes a dig at how Cable's cock was all T-O metal mesh as well. Fanon can read that as Cable and Deadpool were totally banging each other. Canon can read it as manly locker room bitching or griping. Its the very subtle differences.

>> I'm basically just saying be very careful. The only one who can create actual canon for the Marvel verse in anyway shape or form works for Marvel. Fans? Create fanon.

[identity profile] jynx.livejournal.com 2008-12-22 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Whiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiich is just what I said. Shall we suffice to say that we got our signals crossed? My main annoyance was the mention of labeling fic in general as canon. I was not implying you had no idea what canon meant. I was merely expressing my concern and apparently misplaced annoyance at a mislabel

[identity profile] jynx.livejournal.com 2008-12-22 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
So man of the long fanfic for this pairing have their own 'canon' that it makes sense to keep track of it.

*points*

[identity profile] jynx.livejournal.com 2008-12-22 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Go for it. I was not trying to be insulting. I was merely pointing out something that made alarms go off.

BTW? Theres a lot more than just 2 paragraphs out there. A resource page might be a better idea than an entire wiki as we're a little small for one. I think i came across 20 or so huge pages when I was getting into the fandom sooooo..... *shrug* Do whatever you want.

[identity profile] jynx.livejournal.com 2008-12-22 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
*point waaaaaaaay above* I said I was sorry for getting it wrong and misunderstanding everything you were saying!

I'm not entirely sober right now (with good reason) so let's just let things ya know, be what they are.

*chu* tis all right. deep breaths, calm thoughts. think of cap in his very tight pants. :D

I think we may have a fannish culture issue here -- in some fandoms I've been in (Magnificent Seven, which has several open AUs that many different fans write fics set in, comes to mind), AU that are widely know or widely written in are referred to as having their own "canon."

Ex: Mag7's ATF-verse, which has become a parallel set of 'canon' with its own canon "bible" and has arguably as much fic set in it as the regular show canon does. Or the DCU fandom "Mullet-verse," which is the product of one writer, but is widely referrenced and read.

:\ previous fandoms having been large and unwieldy and uh....where long stories were incredibly common that labeling a fanon canon sent major flame wars happening. to the point where said long controversial fics vanished from the net completely and the writers just vanished in anger. >> previous experience scared me for second. tiny fandom is love. no fighting (which i proved wrong, actually >>).

This wouldn't be HP fandom, would it? (or possibly HP fandom just had a duplicate flame war or two - they/we had flame wars over everything else, including the color of Sirius's eyes).

*giggles* Nooooooo, I stayed away from the HP fandom. They scared me. Uhm....one example was the Tamora Pierce fandom (waaaaaaaaay long time ago ie 1999) it uh....ran on mailing list back then. one major war got the mod of the list to just delete the entire thing altogether. Lotsa drama in the LOTR fandom early on (circa first movie release) both RPS and FPS...some Japanese anime ones (i saw flames, i left quickly and lurked) annnnnnd the last one (most recent that tore apart like, all my close friendships because I refused to side) was Kingdom Hearts. Friend no longer writes, posts, kinda dropped off the face of the internet. :\ Screwed about 5 of us over for Otakon because she cancelled the hotel room on us

That would be awesome. In the sense that I'd love to read it.. Being new-ish to the fandom and all.

Oh, don't delete the post! I do actually think it's a good idea. [livejournal.com profile] seanchai and I were thinking of setting up some kind of FAQ on Tales of Suspense with answers to some of the most commonly asked canon questions (What does the Extremis actually do? When did the other Avengers find out that Tony was Iron Man? Has Steve ever had a secret identity?) and some canon highlights, like a mirror of the slashiest moments list and some key pre-Civil War canon storylines (Tony's drinking, the Nomad arc, etc.). We were planning to just do 616 since it's the core/central canon and since the published AUs get so confusing (if I had a quarter for every time someone's asked me why Ultimate Iron Man is a different continuity than Ultimate-Everything-Else, I'd have enough money to buy a paperback book, though definately not one by Orson Scott Card).

A wiki is much better, though, because a) everyone can participate and b) I don't have to do it, so it might actually get done before 2009.
