Cap_IronMan Big Bang Fest - Are you interested?

What is a big bang fest?
-A Big Bang fest is two-part: There's fic and there's art. Writers submit fics, and artists/vid makers claim them to make art or video to go along with the fics. Want to get more of a feel? Check out the faq for the [livejournal.com profile] tardis_bigbang

[Poll #1325981]

I voted for 20k, but that seems like a lot.

[identity profile] crimsonquills.livejournal.com 2009-01-06 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
It is a lot! :-) But Big Bangs are designed to encourage really long stories. I don't think I've ever seen one for less than 20K. I seriously boggled at the idea of 50K though. I honestly don't think there are many people in fandom who can write stories that long.

[identity profile] smilingskull.livejournal.com 2009-01-06 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously, especially less than two months after NaNo.

[identity profile] crimsonquills.livejournal.com 2009-01-06 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
I expect the big bang (assuming there's enough interest) won't actually start running for another month or two, to allow time for planning and sign ups, so it won't be quite that close to NaNo. But still...50,000 as a minimum boggles my mind. I imagine there are folks who hit 50,000 when they're expecting the story to be 30,000, but it's ambitious for an initial goal!

I boggle at the idea of 20k. I'm afraid to even express interest, I'm not convinced I can keep my attention on one story for that long.

I so hope it goes ahead, though. Long fics are my escapism :D

[identity profile] lilpocketninja.livejournal.com 2009-01-06 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
I know, right? I want long fics, I just don't want to write them. ._.

Which is why I voted yes for drawing and no for writing.

I'm not convinced I can keep my attention on one story for that long.

It's really, really hard. I think that's why so many people post WIPs--feedback can help you keep your focus. When I write long fic I don't post in progress (got burned doing that once), but I inevitably have to take periodic breaks during which I write something short and unrelated.

Long fics are my escapism :D

I think you're in luck. *g* There seems to be a pretty solid line up of people signed up.

It would take me a year. xD But I guess I missed that it was long fic. I have gud reading comprehension and stuff.

[identity profile] sdroid.livejournal.com 2009-01-06 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
Dude. This is hardcore. I should probably start writing now to have any hope of finishing XD I like a challenge though bwahahaha

...............

On the one hand, a Big Bang might actually kick-start this bunny I have on the back burner. On the other hand, I'm not sure it'll make the 20,000 minimum--how many pages does that usually average?

[identity profile] empty-splendor.livejournal.com 2009-01-06 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
I'm excited about this.

[identity profile] chaosakita.livejournal.com 2009-01-06 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
I can barely write 1,000 word long fics in a week. If that's like a cross country running thing for me, then those big bang people must be doing one of those Iron Man triathalon things (no pun intended).

[identity profile] posyvanilla.livejournal.com 2009-01-06 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
Ooh, I would love to do this!

One question: would there be prompts for this? I seem to recall SGA having some sort of prompt deal with theirs, but I can't remember for sure. I think it would be awesome either way, though. :)

[identity profile] johanirae.livejournal.com 2009-01-06 11:55 am (UTC)(link)
The scale of a fest scares me, but I'm also plenty excited to draw up stuff for it...

[identity profile] jwaneeta.livejournal.com 2009-01-06 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I responded to draw, but now I'm a little scared. Just how much art is needed for a 20,000 word fic? I don't want some poor writer to kill herself grinding out 20,000 words and then only be able to swing a few spot illustrations, and have her feel all dissed and hurt by the inequity of effort.

*trembles a leetle*

[identity profile] jwaneeta.livejournal.com 2009-01-06 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, that's cool then, thanks for the reassurance. :)

Just a scene, really

[identity profile] jazzypom.livejournal.com 2009-01-08 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Like, in the hp_fandom you had people reading the fic, and they drew based on impressions they get from the fic, not necessarily a specific scene.

Artists are stupidly grateful for art though.

Re: Just a scene, really

[identity profile] jwaneeta.livejournal.com 2009-01-09 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks: that I can totally handle. It just seems like a huge labor for the author and I didn't want someone to feel... dismissed, or anything, if the art didn't match it. In terms of hours logged, if you know what I mean.

Roger that, if you'll pardon the pun. I'm in. :)

[identity profile] perrypadfoot.livejournal.com 2009-01-06 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
This is awesome. Can I writer do more than one story, though?

[identity profile] perrypadfoot.livejournal.com 2009-01-06 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Also, when does it start?

[identity profile] perrypadfoot.livejournal.com 2009-01-06 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Just realized how appropriate this icon is, heh.

[identity profile] perrypadfoot.livejournal.com 2009-01-06 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Also, the Who-one confuses me. Simpler terms please? (And also, are you modding this? What do they mean by drafting? What about deadlines?)

[identity profile] perrypadfoot.livejournal.com 2009-01-06 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
And! (Sorry for the spam here, but I'm trying to grasp this in easier terms, sorry...) Is it a LJ comm? A seperate website? Is there going to be a separate comm for drafting/deadlines/overviews/whinging?

[identity profile] perrypadfoot.livejournal.com 2009-01-06 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah thank you!

And, yes, I meant with co-writing one because I doubt even I'm that much of a nerd.

I'd love to read the fic

[identity profile] jazzypom.livejournal.com 2009-01-08 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I'll be beta reading for two. Bwee.

just a thought...

[identity profile] saraid.livejournal.com 2009-01-10 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
bang; i have seen two-part big bangs run; the first part a shorter story, like 20k, and the second part a larger one (40-50k)this allowa writers of different styles to participate. and i think it's usually 6 months allowed for the longer stories, if not more. additionally, i've always likied the cheerleading and stuff that sometimes goes with a bang; fans who want to participate but don't write or do art or vids or beta can be assigned as cheerleaders. they basically encourage, comfort, scold and badger their writer into fiishing

just my unworthyh opinion. sign me up, i'm ready to go. oh, tw way, will there be a theme? please say no theme
