The [community profile] cap_ironman community was created on 19 February 2008 as one of the many pairing-specific LJ communities that made up journal-based fandom spaces at the time. It soon grew into an active community, with different passionate community mod teams organising and maintaining an ever-growing variety of events. Today our home bases are Dreamwidth and Tumblr, with a smaller presence on other platforms. A lot of fun, feels and creativity were shared as comics went from losing Steve to the first Civil War story arc, and as new universes were created, giving Steve/Tony fans a range of canons across the vast Marvel multiverse.

[community profile] cap_ironman wants to continue in the spirit of the work and love that all the mods, creators, commenters, reccers and Steve/Tony fans from around the world put in, and give you a fun space for your Steve/Tony needs now and in the future.

It's been a while since we last checked in with the Cap-IM community, and we'd really love to hear what you think about the way things are run, and how we can make the community more enjoyable, successful and inclusive!

The survey below is open to everyone who considers themselves a member of the cap-ironman community, whether you are a member or follower of one of our community platforms, a participant in our events, or anyone who regularly drops into Steve/Tony spaces..

We're re-gauging the community's opinions with relation to some event guidelines, and have some questions about the ways you engage with the community.

Click here to give us your feedback! You have until the end of January 24th.

Note: this survey is anonymous unless you choose to share your contact details with us.

We thank you in advance for your participation!

For the two main Cap-Iron Man community collaborative events, the Big Bang and the Reverse Bang, teams claim a posting date for their work to be posted.

The mods would like to run posting date-claims in a way that maintains transparency but moves away from "one date or nothing" model, as we feel that this puts undue stress on participants.

We are putting it up to the community to decide!

Please tell us which is your preferred method for claiming a posting date for our Reverse Bang and Big Bang events - don't be shy. This survey is anonymous, and we welcome your feedback, since it's you, our cap-ironman community, who takes part in our events.

There is a choice of 4 options, as well as an opportunity to elaborate if your preferred method isn't there.

The survey will close on January 14, and is open to ALL cap-ironman community members and followers, even if you have not yet participated in a cap-ironman Reverse Bang or Big Bang challenge. You do not need to be part of the [community profile] cap_ironman community in order to take part.

Thanks in advance for taking the time to have your say!

As we know, there are dozens of universes that populate the Marvel Multiverse. Some are an issue or two long; some are just couple of panels in an issue! While some ‘verses are lighthearted and fun, others can present a more grim outlook - but all are worth writing about!

In this last bonus quiz, we’ve collated some alternate endings to the 616 Marvel Comics Civil War event. But if none of these are up your alley, there are plenty more possibilities! And while this has focussed on the comics version, Captain America: Civil War is another version that is rife with fix-it or canon-divergent potential. We just hope that after reading some prompts, you’ll get inspired to write what you want to see! Some of these might not be suitable for a whole 25K fic to be based on, but maybe they’ll spark an idea, or maybe you can use the inspiration as the foundation for your fic.

Take the plunge; click here for Bonus Quiz #5!

Fingers crossed, this series of inspiration posts were fun to read through, and have helped you figure out what type of Captain America/Iron Man goodness you’d like to write for or see in the Cap-IM 2018 Big Bang!

Remember, whether or not you're joining this year's Big Bang, we want to see your vote!

Running since 2011, the Cap-IronMan Big Bang challenges the community's writers to create Steve/Tony-focused fic with a minimum of 25,000 words. Artists are then invited to create accompanying art! To sign up as a writer you need to send us your draft and summary by September 26th.

This year’s vote will be for [livejournal.com profile] teyke and [livejournal.com profile] navaan only. I ([livejournal.com profile] runningondreams) will be stepping down due to some real life commitments (there’s never enough time for everything we want to do, is there?). Just like last year, this vote is for the question of “should we have a general election?” If the community does not currently want an election, then [livejournal.com profile] teyke and [livejournal.com profile] navaan will carry on for another year (at which point there will be another vote). If the community does want an election, then [livejournal.com profile] teyke, [livejournal.com profile] navaan and anyone else who would like to volunteer will run for the positions. Either way, we will be looking for volunteers for the third general mod position after this vote is done.

The event mods for the Big Bang and Tiny Reverse Bang will continue to run their events until those events end, regardless of the outcome of this vote.

Voting will open on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at 12:00 PM PST and close Saturday August 27th around 12:00 PM PST. Only community members will be able to vote, so if you don’t have a livejournal account and want to participate in the vote, you’ll need to sign up for one. Community membership will remain open until Friday, August 19 around 11:00 PM PST, and will re-open after the voting is finished.

Borrowing an explanation of how this works from a previous mod team:
Commenting will be turned off for the voting post, but please email the mods with concerns or questions. It isn't possible to create a truly anonymous LJ poll, but the detailed results will be viewable only by me ([livejournal.com profile] runningondreams), and I will very decidedly not be looking to see who voted which way, nor will I share the information with anyone, including my co-mods. The numerical results will be viewable by everyone.

Over the past few years there's been a shift in general fandom to move towards a rating system like that on the AO3. In this community our current ratings system for tags follows the MPAA system instead, but it's come up recently that this is not a very intuitive system for non-Americans. With that in mind, we are considering switching over the tags to follow the AO3 system instead. This change would affect all prior and future entries.

As a general reminder, all fanworks posted to the comm should be tagged with the rating (along with the universe, fanwork type, and your creator tag). This poll is about those tags only; you can use whatever rating system you wish in your fic header.

[Poll #2009456][Poll #2009456]
Update/Clarification: 'Gen' in the AO3 system stands for 'General audiences', not 'non-romance'. The tag will be either 'G' or 'General Audiences' to prevent confusion.

Hey y'all, it's come to our attention that those of you who follow the community by email may have missed the last mod post, due to the technicalities of how it was posted. Since that post was a poll regarding community events, if you missed that post (or did see it but haven't voted yet), please consider this a second invitation to go and vote! The most important question is the very first, and relates to the order in which events occur throughout the year; if you participate in community events, we strongly encourage you to give your input in this matter.

(Thank you to [livejournal.com profile] leperu for letting us know about the problem!)

In order to keep events running smoothly from year to year, we are currently assembling a set of guidelines for the event mod teams to refer to when setting up and running their events. Most of the guidelines are background logistics-related stuff, but we would also like to take this opportunity to seek input from the community regarding some of the options mods have in implementing these events. Please take a few minutes to fill in the polls below, and add any additional thoughts you have in the comments of this post. The most important question is the very first, and relates to the order in which events occur throughout the year; if you participate in community events, we strongly encourage you to give your input in this matter.

The results of these polls will not be applied to the Reverse Bang 2015 that is currently running. The poll results will be strongly weighted when the guidelines for the event mod teams are written, but they will not be considered concrete; the guidelines will be considered a living document and will probably be modified in the future as the community continues to grow and change, or as logistics demands.

For ease of organization, the questions have been divided into four separate polls. To avoid losing your answers and having to tick them again, please hit 'submit' at the bottom of each poll before moving on to the next. If you have any technical difficulties, please comment to this post.

Consider the mods curious, since we're looking at changing some things next year.  Please DO NOT vote if you're a regular over on #cap-im IRC.  I'd like to hear from folks who haven't made up the majority of comm traffic in the last few months.  Yes lurkers, that's you!

Please don't advertise this poll elsewhere, either.  I'm interested in the responses generated through normal livejournal use.

I've put up our annual poll for mod elections over here. If you aren't a member of our LJ counterpart, and you would like to state a preference, you may do so anonymously here in the comments. I've got the comments screened so only the mods will see them. Also, feel free to PM the mods with any concerns. Thank you.

It's been three years (and a couple weeks) since [livejournal.com profile] muccamukk, [livejournal.com profile] valtyr and I accepted moderatorship of [livejournal.com profile] cap_ironman. Since then, in the interests of mod accountability, we've run a poll each year to see if members would like to hold an election for the moderator position. It's that time of year again.

You can either vote to put the moderator position up for election, in which case we - and anyone else who wishes to - would run for the position. Or you can vote to keep us unchallenged for another year.

Commenting will be turned off for this post, but please PM any of the mods with concerns or questions. This poll will run for one week and close by Monday, July 9th. It isn't possible to create a truly anonymous LJ poll, but the detailed results will be viewable only by me, and I will not be looking to see who voted which way, nor will I share the information with anyone, including my co-mods. There is a poll concerning whether the moderator position should be put up for election or if the community would rather keep the current mods for another year. You can read it and vote here.

I thought quite a bit about what to do about our DW-only members. I only want community members to vote, but I don't want to give members who are on both LJ and DW the ability to vote twice. (I don't think anyone would, but I would feel obligated to check, and that would go back on my promise of not looking at the poll result details.)

If anyone has any suggestions, I will gladly hear them. I hate the idea of leaving anyone's voice out of a community-wide poll.

It's been two years since [livejournal.com profile] muccamukk , [livejournal.com profile] valtyr , and I became the mods of this community. Exactly one year ago, we ran a poll to see if members would like hold an election for the moderator position, but the majority voted to postpone any election for one year, and keep us as mods in the meantime. That year is now up!

You can either vote to put the moderator position up for election - in which case we, and anyone else who wishes to, would run for the position. Or you can vote to keep us as mods for another year.
