OMGWTF ::faint::

Warning! Comments may contain spoilers, so read at your own risk!

Has anyone else has gotten a copy of Dark Avengers #1? I do not want to spoil anything, but let's just say that when I found out who is wearing the Iron Man style armor, well, that is the closest I have come to pooping my pants since I was in diapers. I am curious to know how everyone else reacted.

hm, maybe you could say "spoilers" and tag it with the right ones, and then we can discuss.
As for me, I´ve seen the solicits on scans_daily and was not a bit surprised.

In fact, I have a few theories how our guys can fight back, but I can´t reveal them to an audience that doesn´t want to get spoilered.....yet

No need to apologize^^
Yay, you edited, now the discussion can begin^^

First, there are canonical inconsquences: In the recent IronMan&DrDoom time-travel-shenanigan the first thing they showed was Tony destroying his old armors, because he claimed that his Extremis armor would be versatile enough to compensate for all the others and that he wanted to rather destroy them then let them fall into the wrong hands.

-> these armors shouldn´t exist

(in my opinion, Tony would NEVER destroy his old armors, no matter how outdated, clunky, unfashionable they may be- I read somewhere that he even reconstructs his old suits of armor if one gets damaged or destroyed - he loves his armory. And that means that he would never allow it to fall into the wrong hands - aka either the writers are being excessively stupid and ignorant of canon, or they are planning something with them.

Besides, I thought that in SI Stark tech became pretty much obsolete and Tony´s semi-braindead...so the armors wouldn´t even work anyway; that is why Tony rebuilds the suit from Heroes Reborn (I confused it with the Sentient Armor....but dammit, I like my own version better^^).
The armors maybe serve as a plot device, I guess that Tony has built in failsafes, or voice activted commands as he had in the beginnings of the New Avengers books, where Steve can command the armor to do stuff.

My point is that Norman shouldn´t
a) be having a suit of armor from Tony, because they weren´t supposed to still exist
b) be able to find a functioning one (SI-virus)
c) be able to command it (Tony would prevent any other than him, or maybe Rhodey, to use his armors)

And from the moral pov....it´s not called Dark Avengers for nothing. With the new lineup of the Mighty Avengers the two teams will most likely pose as antagonists in future times.
The principle of Dark Avengers is projecting a good image, one that remidns one of the good, old hero vs villain days, where everything was black&white, where the hero is always the good guy, where there is saving people and glory. After the recent events like WWHulk, SI, ....(this list goes on) people need hope and Osborn uses this faux team to inspire hope that is sadly misplaced.
It may be a cunning plan to him, but the fans know the characters best and we think that our heroes are smarter and better than that.

I don´t really know much about Osborn, only that he´s a (former) supervillain as Hobgoblin (I think), Spiderman´s nemesis, has(had?) a son named Harry who was also(is?) a supervillain.
Dangerous, psychopathic guy who´s hungry for power -> not a good combination

I think that every "normal" hero can´t stand the sight of Osborn in a combined version of Cap&Tony - but publicity is with the Dark Avengers...for now.
But we ave to remember...those guys are still villains. And villains are not exactly well known for being able to work together on a regular, functioning basis.
(DC has the Flash Rogues which are one glorious exception to that rule), but eventually they will screw up.
Maybe they lose their temper in front of the cameras, maybe they will be too cruel on enemies, maybe they will rat each other out, betray and lie - but that thing can´t work for a longer period of time.

(That strangely reminds me of the episode of Disney´s Recess called "Lwason and his crew" it didn´t work out either)

Osborn is the Green Goblin. He does have Harry as a son, who died, then through BND it was all retconned, it turns out he was just being brainwashed in Europe. (Oh, Marvel..)

Just a few counterpoints to the list, for the sake of argument, with the caveat that I have not actually read the issue myself yet XD

A) Despite the scene in Legacy of Doom, we've seen Tony's armory on a number of occasions. I got the impression that Tony only does this once every couple years.
B) Tony himself pulled out a classic armor at the end of SI that was not part of the Starktech Network, so it's not to say that every single one of the old armors won't work.
C) Well, yes, true, but I see a couple possibilities: 1) With the armor not functioning from the Skrull virus, they could have been able to completely rebuild the OS, giving Osborne access to the armor. 2) Osborne is a weapons designer himself. It's possible that he studied the old armors and made it himself.

Osborn also killed Gwen Stacy and dropped her off a bridge (although whether she was dead before she was dropped or died when Peter grabbed her with his webbing and her neck snapped in still in debate, I think).

He was also caught on live news footage killing cops, not to mention that he has a serious thing out for Peter. There's a lot more, but I was never that into Spider Man and can't accurately say...
