canon question about Steve.

I have a couple plot bunnies romping around n my brain, and they're wondering this:

Does Steve drink? I don't remeber seeing him drinking beers or anything like that, and i'm wondering if i just never noticed him drinking, or if he just doesn't drink. I know his father was an alcoholic, so does steve not drink because of that? or is there an actual reason?
thats all i really have for now..

omg so many  posts to read here yet, so little time! 0_0

Edit..again: thankies for all the help everyone, i have figured out what to do... and that is... put this plot bunny into a cage and play with a different one ^_^

Steve did drink, it was on a date with either Sharon or Bernie, and mentioned that because of the serum, he can't get drunk.

Which is weird because on his first date with Diamondback he told her he didn't drink (and I think mentioned his father)and in Price of Glory mini his consently turning down drinks in favor of Mr. Pibb.

Oh canon.

Steve may changed his mind over the years---after all, alcohol can't affect him the way it did his dad. There's no danger of him growing addicted to it, or having an adverse effect on him and his behavior

I've been informed that Bru's Cap will drink socially, but isn't affected by it. So to fanwank it, he's relaxed his attitudes to drinking over time. Possibly after seeing two friends make it into recovery?

Steve has a scarily high resistance to all chemical means of altering his state of consciousness; surgery is an issue. What are you trying to accomplish?

My good friend, ROMULAN ALE!

Or whatever strong alien alcohol there is in Marvelverse.

Something like pheromones might work... Steve's pretty resistant to most things like that though.

Well, when Jessica Jones warned him about her pheromomes, he says "I'll try to control myself," all snappy, not "They don't work on me," so I'm inclined to believe he's resistant but not immune.

He's reasonably vulnerable to a telepathic mind whammy, the whole NA team were put out that way in the Savage Land

As Steve can't get drunk and has trouble being put under for surgery, I would say a date rape drug wouldn't be effective. However, a super-dose of a date rape drug, engineered to work around the serum, may, in fact, affect him.

When in doubt, use comic book science.

[identity profile] perpet-fic.livejournal.com 2009-04-09 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, comic book science got us the house arrest anklet. It's powerful stuff.

Glad to help. :)

The above is sage advice.
That's what Ellyr_in_ink and I did in our Vegas fic.
We handwaved and said "Steve got drugged don't question it"

I think we even poked fun at it with a line about this nobody crook accidentally coming up with a drug that the Red Skull would give his right kidney for or something like that.

I mean I can't speak for others, but if he if the fic is fun enough I don't tend to worry about the science. I don't from the actual comics so I find it unfair to expect it from the authors as long as there's a good story to be had from the oversight =P

"Watch out, [super-hero name here], s/he might try to slip you a super-roofie."

[identity profile] musemachine.livejournal.com 2009-04-09 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think anything short of him eating a horse tranq dart would even get him drowsy. He's pretty much engineered to be able to field anything, including getting drugged by pretty spies.

Steve pointedly often doesn't drink around Tony, but he's canonically had a beer or two with Nick Fury, gone out for drinks with Saron and Bernie, etc. But as several other people have pointed out, the super solider serum gives him an abnormally high resistance to all sedatives/narcotics/other drugs. Beer has about the same effect on him as soda, and painkillers and anaesthetics not working properly on him have actually been an issue in canon once or twice, I think.

That said, I suspect it might still be possible to drug him -- it would just take a much, much higher/stronger dose than a normal person would require. Getting Steve drunk would probably take enough hard alcohol to kill a regular person (beer or wine wouldn't do it -- it would have to be either magic alcohol, like Asgardian mead, or something very high proof), and the same thing with pain killers like morphine. I think an effective dose for Steve would be a lethal dose for anyone else. So "regular" date rape drugs would I suspect be useless -- but a supervillain would probably be able to concoct some kind of extra-strong drug cocktail that might work.

There's always magic. Magic lets you handwave pretty much anything in Marvel-verse.

[identity profile] schmevil.livejournal.com 2009-04-10 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Asgardian mead ftw! Steve roped into a Asgardian drinking contest with Thor, Balder et al.

Volstag and the other two Warriors Three would totally be in on it, too. In fact, it would be their idea.
