Cap-IM Events: An Overview for New Participants

You can find our currently-running events and their guidelines in our Intro post on Dreamwidth, or on our Tumblr sidebar. An overview of our general event guidelines can be found here.

Cap-Ironman Events
So you're interested in creating more Steve/Tony or Steve&Tony-centric works? Awesome!

Our events welcome all works that focus on the relationship between Steve Rogers and Tony Stark, in any context (platonic, pre-slash, romantic or otherwise) and any setting or universe you can think of.

Supporting characters are of course allowed—your work doesn't have to be about Tony and Steve in isolation. We do ask that additional relationships featured in the work are secondary to Steve and Tony's relationship with each other, and that Steve/Tony is the endgame if you have multiple relationships featuring Steve or Tony.

For example:
  • If your work strongly features Bucky Barnes/Sam Wilson or Tony Stark & Misty Knight, those relationships must not be more prominent than Steve and Tony's.

  • If Tony and Tiberius are together at the start of your work, they should be split up by the end of it, and Tony should either be single or paired with Steve.

  • If Tony dies, Steve can't get together with another character by the end of the work (unless it's Tony from another universe!)

ANNUAL EVENTS
All of [community profile] cap_ironman's event and challenge masterlists from 2010 onwards can be found here!

Remix Event (December - February)
The Remix Challenges (Exchange, Relay, and Madness) are usually the first events in the year, where participants are asked to remix each other’s works. You can read more about what a remix is here and check out the capimremix Tumblr tag or Dreamwidth tag for all our Remix posts.

Reverse Bang (January - May)
The Reverse Bang (RBB), similar to Big Bang challenges, is an event where creators are asked to collaborate on an illustrated story together. In RBB, artists submit their artwork first and writers and podficcers will create stories inspired by the art they've claimed. You can check out the capimrbb Tumblr tag or Dreamwidth tag for all RBB posts.
Eligible Worktypes:
  • Submissions: Fanart (traditional & digital), Fanmixes (with cover art), Fanvids, Manips & Gifs
  • Claimants: Fanfics, Podfics

Big Bang (May - November)
Big Bang is one of our oldest and longest challenges. Writers in the fandom will work on their fic year long until draft submissions, after which creators will claim fics to begin the collaborative stage of the challenge. You can find all BB posts in the capimbb Tumblr tag or Dreamwidth tag.
Eligible Worktypes:
  • Submissions: Fanfics
  • Claimants: Fanart (traditional & digital), Fanmixes (with cover art), Fanvids, Manips & Gifs, Podfics

Holiday Exchange and Community Gifts (November - January)
The Holiday Exchange and Community Gifts are run during the holiday seasons! In the exchange, the goal is for each participant to create work for another participant. For community gifts, everyone is free to submit Stony prompts, and then encouraged to create fills as a gift to the fandom. You can find our HE and Community Gifts posts in the capimexchange Tumblr tag or Dreamwidth tag.
Eligible Worktypes:
  • Exchange: Fanart (traditional & digital), Fanfic, Fanmixes (with cover art), Fanvids, Manips & Gifs, Podfics
  • Community Gifts: Any worktype!

Rec Week (a week in June/July)
Rec Week is an annual event where everyone is invited to rec their favorite Steve/Tony works corresponding to seven prompts, one for each day of the Rec Week. We encourage everyone to get involved and give love to their favourite works and creators, as well as explore our resulting Masterlist of recs for new gems to enjoy. You can find previous roundups and posts in our capimrecweek Tumblr tag or Dreamwidth tag.
Eligible Worktypes:
  • Any recs for any worktypes!

Eligible Worktypes:
  • Fanart (traditional & digital), Fanfics

STONY Trivia Quiz
First launched in 2020, this event is open to all participants and runs like a virtual pub quiz on Discord. Teams sign up and compete with each other on Steve/Tony trivia to win a prize! Scroll through past quizzes on Discord, and check out the past winning teams in our Dreamwidth tag

Kink Meme
This is a Steve/Tony-only kink meme. Anybody can post prompts and fills, anonymously or not, and fills are collected as part of the monthly cap-ironman Newsletter and Fanwork Round-ups. For all the rounds and posts, check out the capimkinkmeme tag.

Code of Conduct
Our events will state any age restrictions that apply to that event. If there are no specific restrictions in the event's rules, you can assume it is open to participants of all ages.

Please note that it is the responsibility of all participants and community members to curate their viewing experience. The default setting of our community is set to "appropriate for everyone" as the majority of our posts are SFW, and to make the community more accessible to people who are not logged into Dreamwidth.

By viewing our posts, you acknowledge that the community may contain discussions and content pertaining to adult themes and language.

You must heed all content warnings. By participating in any event marked 18+ or clicking on any work with adjacent warnings, you are stating that you're old enough to do so. If we find out that you're not, please be aware that we may exclude you from participating in events.

EVENT DOS AND DONTS
  • Do read all event guidelines, and make sure you understand the requirements, before signing up to an event.
  • Do check the event information posts and FAQs before asking a question.
  • Do follow prompts as well as you are able.
  • Do put as much care into your gift as you hope your gifter would put into the work you're receiving, no matter who your recipient is.
  • Do let your partner(s) and the mods know if you need to drop out, or need an extension, as soon as possible.
  • Do comment and kudos on works that you are gifted, collaborations that you've worked with, prompt fills written for you, and works that you've enjoyed.

  • Don't break anonymity during anon periods of events: for exchanges, remember that your recipient could be in any public space so don't give away what you're creating and for whom.
  • Don't badmouth your recipient or creator.
  • Don't post an incomplete work, or a work that has been published before.
  • Don't create a work that hits on someone's Do Not Wants.
  • Don't disappear without warning.

EXTENSIONS
The drop-out deadline for collaborative events (Big Bang, Reverse Bang) is the claims date. The drop-out deadline for other events will be noted in the event's schedule for that year. Withdrawing from events prior to the drop-out deadline is penalty-free.

If you need an extension, please contact the mods as soon as possible. Make sure you communicate how much extra time you need.

You do not need to justify your request, though it is useful for mods to know why you need an extension if that's something you are comfortable disclosing. Extensions are given on a case-by-case basis, but most events will have a short extension period built into the schedule, so don't be afraid to request one!

Depending on the event, a draft of your event work might be required before an extension is granted.

PINCH HITS
We do our best to make sure that everyone has a gift or partner for all of our exchange and collaborative events.

That's why we're always looking for pinch hitters to add to our list! Pinch hitters are creators who are willing to step in at short notice to ensure that every participant will have their request fulfilled or have a partner in an event. It's a great way to get involved if you have the availability, whether you've signed up for an event or not.

If you're interested in pinch hitting, please sign up to our Cap-IM Pinch Hitter List, and you will be notified via email when a pinch hit becomes available to claim.

SHARING EVENT WORKS
After creator reveals have passed, or your posting day has arrived, you can crosspost your event work to any additional platforms of your choosing.

We do participant reblogs on Tumblr and Twitter for our events. If you would like us to share your event work, please make sure to mention [community profile] cap_ironman so that we will get a notification about it.

Each event has specific tags affiliated with it, which you can see on our announcement posts. You may also use the event tag on Tumblr to have it show up in the tag feed. Please note that currently Tumblr searches will not show works unless the searched tags are in the first five tags, and that some posts or blogs are hidden by Tumblr's Safe Mode so don't show up at all.

Depending on the volume of works posted, works may be reblogged with a delay, but if you think we've missed your post, you can email cap.im.events@gmail.com or IM us a link!

The Cap-Ironman Tumblr does not reblog posts with explicit or 'not safe for work' content displayed. Such posts will be reblogged if a post is 'safe for work', with any NSFW content accessible through a link or hidden by a cut.

If an event requires posting on Dreamwidth, instructions will be found in the event's guidelines. If you'd like to post a work to our Dreamwidth community outside of an event, you are welcome to do so! Step-by-step instructions on posting can be found in our posting guidelines.

Archive Of Our Own Tips
Here is our AO3 Posting Guide for Cap-IM Events.

⭐ Sometimes when you are trying to add a draft work to an AO3 collection by using the Post to Collection / Challenges field in the Associations section, it will not appear as an option in the dropdown menu. This is a common glitch — don't worry! You can add your work to the collection by copying its URL name (found in the collection's URL e.g. archiveofourown.org/collections/cap_ironman_2021_RBB) and pasting it directly into the Post to Collection / Challenges field, then pressing ENTER.

⭐ Another way to add your work to a collection is to go directly to the AO3 collection dashboard and click the POST TO COLLECTION button. This will create a draft work that has already been added to the collection.

⭐ If you have created a draft of your AO3 work, its link will be the same as when you publish it. This means that you can pass on your AO3 link to a partner, prepare a Tumblr post, or fill out a Masterpost Information form before you publish your work on posting day.

⭐ To find your work in an unrevealed collection after submitting your work, go to your AO3 profile's statistics page (archiveofourown.org/users/YOUR USERNAME HERE/stats) and scroll to the title of your work. Clicking on the link will take you to the work's page. Alternatively, you can find your listing by scrolling through all the works in the collection until you find yours, which will not appear as Mysterious Work, but show the title.

⭐ For works posted in collections with moderated reveals (meaning your original posting date will be different from the date the work is revealed), we suggest that you update the posting date of your work after it's been revealed so it shows up in chronological AO3 searches. More information on this can be found here, under set a different publication date. Regrettably, this will not trigger AO3 feeds because of how automatically generated AO3 feeds work.

Any Questions?
If you have any questions regarding a specific Cap-Iron Man event, you can contact the event mods at cap.im.events@gmail.com or the ways listed here. We request that you do not reach out to individual mods if you need clarification on any rules or the running of the event.

All other questions regarding the community or any of the information listed in this page should be directed to cap.im.mods@gmail.com.

Do you update your fannish profile(s) regularly? Do you have a transformative works statement?

People who like your work will want to know where else they can find you! People who are inspired by your work might want to transform it further!

It’s a great idea to take a look at what you have written in your AO3 Profile (https://archiveofourown.org/users/YOUR-USERNAME-HERE/profile) and on any social media platform’s bio or about me sections at the start of the year. Update them if they’re out of date!

And if you haven’t got one yet, may I strongly suggest that you add in a transformative work policy statement?

You may experience a feeling of hubris when writing it (I certainly did) — who would ever want to transform your work?! How presumptuous of you to say "Please don’t translate my work without providing a link back to the original with credit", as if you are expecting it to one day happen. Don’t let that stop you: think of it as (a) helping to create fannish norms and (b) a just in case scenario.

Thing is, it could happen. Someone might want to transform your work out of appreciation, or as a challenge, or because they liked it and want to see it in a different language or format, or for a variety of other reasons.

But if someone decides that they do want to, and then they can’t easily find a clear public statement saying "Yes please" or "No thanks" regarding transformative works based on your work… they might not have the confidence to come into your comments/DM/email and ask. They might not transform your work, just in case. While we are people who regularly dabble in other creators’ canons, fandom tends to have strict unwritten rules about transforming other fans’ works without permission.

So if you wouldn’t mind (or would be delighted about, or don’t want) having someone remix your work, or draw fanart for it or write an accompanying fanfic or podfic it or transform it into a fanvid or give it a fanmix or a myriad of other creative things… say so!

Don’t worry too much about whether it will or won’t happen: worry about whether you have made your stance clear and created (or closed) that opportunity for other fans.

I’d like to direct you to a couple of resources:
  • Here is the fanlore article about blanket permissions.
  • [community profile] cap_ironman specifically has a podfic-friendly writer list here and also linked on the Dreamwidth and Tumblr sidebars - you can add yourself to that, and browse it for phrasing. There’s also a Fanlore page linked there which has a (likely not-up-to-date) list of authors that give podfic blanket permission.
  • akamine-chan’s AO3 meta post in favour of everyone having a policy statement on their profile(s), with some examples.
  • sophinisba’s 2011 post about the usefulness of having an AO3 profile filled out from a podficcer’s perspective.
  • As an example, my own AO3 profile which contains my transformative works statement. Yours doesn't have to look like mine!

A reminder: a blanket permission policy isn’t necessary! You might be happy to be remixed and podficced, but not want anyone to translate your work into a different language. You might want someone to ask permission first for one type of transformative work, but not for others (etc etc). You can specify that in your statement!

A second reminder: if you don’t have a statement publicly available, or you have a statement saying that you don’t want your works to be transformed, and then you sign up to a [community profile] cap_ironman event such as the Remix Madness challenge (opening on Jan 10th this year) which by its nature requires the further transformation of your work, then you are explicitly giving your permission to have your work transformed for that event.

Please consider having a transformative statement in your profile to make life easier for everyone!

Welcome to the new music corner of the Cap-IM community!

Listening to music while you create Stevetony works and making your own playlists to accompany certain fics can be an important or enjoyable part of the process for many fans. We're hopefully going to make this easier for you with our brand-new Spotify account! While you need to sign up for an account to use Spotify, there is a free tier available.

Here's the Cap-IM Comm profile!

A series of public Stevetony playlists have been created to start things off, divided into three themes: universe, event and mood playlists. If you would like us to add another playlist, please either comment on this post with the name (i.e. please can you make a Stevetony coffee shop AU playlist) or email us the same at cap.im.mods@gmail.com.

You can click on the Cap-IM profile directly to see the playlists and subscribe to them so that they appear at the bottom of your left sidebar, along with all the others you've added to your own account.

The playlists are all collaborative, which means that a Spotify user who clicks on any of the links below can add songs. They are currently stubs, and we encourage you to add to them and share your music tastes with the community! If you don't want to add songs directly, you can also comment Stevetony-themed songs on this post and we'll add them to the appropriate playlist for you. We welcome music of all types, in all languages!

When you add a song on Spotify, you also have the option of hopping over to our editable spreadsheet of playlist songs, which also has a column for why you think that a certain song is great for inspiring a certain Stevetony mood! Maybe it was a specific line, maybe the rhythm—whatever it is, we'd love to hear about it! This is also an easy way for people without a Spotify account to see all of the songs that are currently on the playlists.

Lastly, we welcome people posting links to their own Stevetony playlists in the comments as well. It's a great way to be inspired and discover new songs and artists.

This post will provide you with information about remixing and tips on how to get started.

You may be new to remixing or looking for some fresh ideas. Either way, there is no single answer to what makes a good remix. That might be daunting at first, but it’s also part of what makes remixing fun, so get stuck in!

General Cap-IM Event Guidelines

Event Requirements
WORK REQUIREMENTS
All [community profile] cap_ironman event works must be complete, stand-alone works. Unless a specific exception is given in the event's rules, a work must be created solely for the event in question (e.g. STONY Bingo! fills can be crossposted as Tiny Reverse Bang fills and used for other Bingos). All event works must be created by you (and any co-creators) and not derivative of someone else's fanwork without permission. For example, we ask that you don't use existing fanart for edits or videos, create a podfic, build upon someone's edits etc. unless the original fan creator has given explicit permission or has a transformative works statement that allows such use of their work.

We maintain a list of writers who have given blanket permission for podficcing here. If you would like to transform another creator's work, you can also look for transformative work statements in their AO3 or social media profiles.

If you don’t have a statement publicly available, or you have a statement saying that you don’t want your works to be transformed, and then you sign up to an event such as the Remix Madness challenge, which by its nature requires the further transformation of your work, then you are explicitly giving your permission to have your work transformed for that event.

If you are assigned a match or claim a work and would like to create in a language other than English, you must be sure that your partner/recipient has opted in to receive a work in that language. No matter the language it is created in, we ask that the work's masterpost information is in English as well, as that is the working language of the community.

After an event is over, you may build upon your event work as you would with any other fanwork you've made. That includes: writing a sequel, expanding the universe you've established, adding more works to the series, etc. Please note that only the original event work will be affiliated with the event in question with regards to AO3 Collections and Community Masterlists.

You must read through all event-specific rules and understand that you must meet any minimum requirements to complete the challenge.

PARTICIPATION ETIQUETTE
Beta reading isn't required for any event works, but is recommended. If you're looking for a beta reader or would like to sign up to be one, please take a look at our Beta Reader List.

All participants must keep an open mind and enter an event in good faith. You should not sign up expecting to be matched to specific recipients or partners. We do not allow tandem sign-ups (pre-formed teams) in collaborative events such as Big Bang or Reverse Bang, and after claims and assignments are sent out, participants will not be reassigned.

Our collaborative events are about teamwork and communication. The level of collaboration in your team should be determined between you and your partner(s), but please remember to be courteous and keep in touch.

Don't forget our community's most important rule: be excellent to everyone.

Please keep in mind that the creator you are working with or assigned to is a fellow fan. All participants are doing their best to create works that will live up to the prompt(s) provided, while remaining faithful to their own sensibilities.

Remember to always thank creators for their gifts in exchanges and similar events, thank your collaboration partners and link to their work, be courteous, etc. Participants guilty of malicious behavior and excessive misconduct may be banned from the community and future events — see our Special Ban rules.

ANONYMITY AND REVEALS
In events where anonymity is required, please:
  • do not publicly disclose what ideas you are working on (e.g. you can say that you're creating for the Cap-IM RBB, but don't give away details that mean people will be able to guess which work is yours) until after claims/creator reveals
  • do not cross-post or share your work or parts thereof until after creator reveals or your posting day (whichever comes last)
  • redact any identifying information such as your beta reader or creator notes that link to a social media platform until after creator reveals
  • exclude any signatures (you can do a watermark using the AO3 url instead of a signature) until after creator reveals
  • for podfic, if you are uploading cover art or have written credits, please exclude your username until after creator reveals

Given the barriers to disguising the creators of podfics and fanvids, please post these as usual and observe the faux-anonymity of the work—refrain from sharing your work until creator reveals have happened. Our reasoning for this is that it's impractical to request two versions of the work, and there are innate qualities like voice recognition or editing style which cannot be hidden.

After the claims period or creator reveals are over, you can disclose which work is yours and/or who you are working with.

Throughout the duration of an event, you are encouraged to brainstorm or receive feedback from a beta via DM and other private methods.

CO-CREATION OF WORKS
Are creators allowed to work together for events? Yes!

When signing up as co-creators, e.g. when you're signing up as collaborating writers for the Big Bang, you will be seen as "one creator," and whatever piece you create together will only count as a single work. Any minimum work requirements will remain the same.

Please note that for events where creators are only allowed to sign up once, you may only sign up as a team or as individual creators.

We do not allow pre-established writer-artist teams or offer tandem sign-ups in collaborative events such as Big Bang or Reverse Bang. You may, however, sign up as a co-writing team (writers working together) or as a co-creating artist team (artists working together) for the respective writer or artist sign-ups/claims.

Deadlines, Defaults and Pinch-hits
Sometimes life happens and you have to default on an event. If you can't make a deadline for any reason, please let us know! Contact the event mods at cap.im.events@gmail.com as soon as possible so we can find and contact pinch hitters to step in. If you think you need an extension, we encourage you to ask for one! All extension requests must be made at least one day prior to the posting date, and before any event-specific extension deadlines.

The penalty-free drop out deadline for collaborative events (Big Bang, Reverse Bang) is the claims date; other events will have the deadline noted in the event schedule if it is applicable.

DEFAULTING AND ITS PENALTIES
Defaulting means you haven't been able to fulfill the requirements of the event you’re signed up by the deadline. These defaulting policies do not apply to pinch-hitters.

Ways to default on an event include:
  • Missing the deadline without pre-arranging this with the event mods and your partner(s) if applicable

  • Withdrawing from an event after the penalty-free drop-out deadline

  • Submitting any of the following:
    • Unfinished works
    • Works that aren't stand-alone and complete
    • Works that fail to meet the event minimum requirement (e.g. the minimum word count)
    • Works that disregard event requirements (e.g. don't focus on Steve and Tony, are an ineligible worktype, ignore an assignment's DNWs)

Note: Case-by-case exceptions are made depending on circumstance, so please reach out to the event mods to explain your situation.

Participants who default on an event will be temporarily ineligible to sign up for cap-ironman collaborative and exchange events for one calendar year unless they lift their ban earlier.
  • This includes the Big Bang, Reverse Bang, Holiday Exchange, Remix Exchange, Midyear Exchange and any other event that involves being assigned to create with or for a fellow participant.

Banned participants are still eligible to participate in other cap-ironman events such as Community Gifts, Remix Relay, Tiny Reverse Bang, the Kink Meme, Comment Bingo and STONY Bingo.

If a creator is already signed up for another collaborative or exchange event when they incur a temporary ban, then their participation in that event won’t be affected.

LIFTING A BAN EARLY
Your temporary ban will be lifted before a calendar year has passed if you do any of the following:
  • complete the work that was defaulted upon.

  • produce a new work for any [community profile] cap_ironman prompt or open fest (this includes but is not limited to: STONY Bingos, Kinkmeme, past Community Gift and Anniversary fest prompts) that satisfies the defaulted work's minimum fanwork requirement.

  • produce a number of works for any [community profile] cap_ironman prompt or open fest which together add up to the minimum requirement of the event defaulted on and also satisfy the prompt or fest guidelines (this includes but is not limited to: STONY Bingos, Kink Meme, past Community Gift and Anniversary fest prompts).

  • Example: if a participant defaulted on a Big Bang fic, they could write 5x 1,000 word fills for STONY Bingo squares and 2x 10,000 word Community Gift prompt fills, which would collectively add up to the 25,000 minimum word count required for a Big Bang fic.

  • complete a pinch hit work for one of our [community profile] cap_ironman events successfully. Click here to sign up to our list of Cap-IM pinch hitters.

After successfully completing one of the above, a creator must contact the event mods by emailing cap.im.events@gmail.com to lift their temporary ban early.

REPEAT DEFAULTS AND SPECIAL BANS
After the second time a participant defaults on an event and then unbans themselves within the one-year period, they will receive a warning to consider the commitments they make when they sign-up for cap-im events. On their third time defaulting from an event, there will be no option to lift the temporary ban early, even if they do post the defaulted work within that time. After the year is up, they will be permitted to once again participate in all [community profile] cap_ironman events.

Event participants who repeatedly default on events risk becoming ineligible to participate in all exchange and collaborative events. They will be contacted by the mods before such a ban goes into effect.

Event participants who exhibit deliberately malicious or otherwise unacceptable behaviour may be banned from the community, and thus banned from all community activities, including all events.

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please get in touch with the mods as soon as you can. If the mods bring an issue to your attention, take the time to talk it through to help us understand what went wrong. Mods will review and treat all such communications with respect.

Posting Event Works

Most of our events and challenges require posting to Archive of Our Own. You may request an account here. Please note that it may take up to several weeks to receive an AO3 invitation. If you fear you won't receive an invitation on time, please contact us at cap.im.events@gmail.com.

Some events require Team Masterposts, and all events will have round-ups or a community masterlist at the end of the event. By participating in an event, you are agreeing that mods may use any banners and fanwork details when posting these on cap-ironman community platforms.

NSFW POLICY
NSFW works (works that are "not safe for work," works containing explicit or adult content) are allowed in all our events unless otherwise specified. Creators are individually responsible for posting their work, rating their work appropriately, placing warnings on their work, and minding who has access to their post, including:
  • Ensuring your work details and ratings are accurate on Archive of Our Own
  • Following all posting guidelines (under Ratings and Warnings) when posting in the Dreamwidth or LiveJournal community
  • Marking your work as sensitive, putting it under a cut or providing a link, or tagging it as NSFW on Tumblr if your blog setting is not 'explicit'
Our Tumblr currently does not reblog posts with explicit or 'not safe for work' content displayed. Such posts will be reblogged if said content is accessible through a link or hidden by a cut.

Any Questions?

Last year we celebrated 10 Years of Steve/Tony. So far this year, we celebrated the 10 year anniversary of the [community profile] cap_ironman community and next month it'll be time to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A lot of time has passed, a lot of fans have shared their love for the Steve/Tony ship with us and put in work to share the love for this ship.

In July, it will be ten years since elspethdixon posted her Captain America/Iron Man (Marvel Comics) Ship Manifesto in the [livejournal.com profile] ship_manifesto community on Livejournal: an essay and overview of the Steve/Tony ship that aided the start of our fandom and the still active Steve/Tony community.

Ten Years Later

Much has transpired during those ten year in Marvel Comics canon, the Marvel multiverse, and in the Steve/Tony fandom. But not least of all, the MCU has given shippers an accessible and immensely popular Steve/Tony universe, and brought in so many new members to our community in the past decade. Just look at all the brilliant Steve/Tony moments everyone voted on during our Best of Steve/Tony 2018 votes.

Steve/Tony and the Marvel multiverse go hand-in-hand. And that's why it is time to for the community to come together to continue on the legacy of the Steve/Tony Ship Manifesto, and help create the...

Cap-IM Community Gifts

If you have created a fill for the Cap-IM Community Prompts event, first of all--that's awesome, thank you!

You have two options for how to post your work to our annual AO3 Collection.

Option One:

You have to post new work as usual.

Fill in your tags and preface as usual. Please include the prompt you're writing for in your author's notes (at the beginning, or, if you're afraid about spoiling the work, at the end).

In the Associations part of the posting form, please mark that you're posting your work to whichever year of the Captain America/Iron Man Holiday Exchange that you are participating in. Please make sure you're not posting to the parent Collection.

If you start typing the collection title and the collection doesn't appear in the AO3 dropdown, please type in the exchange name (Cap_Ironman_Holiday_Exchange_YEAR-OF-EXCHANGE) and follow it by a comma immediately.
Collections not appearing in the dropdown is a common glitch, so don't worry if it happens to you!

In the "Gift this work to" section, please write in Cap Iron Man Community.

Then fill in the work body, click post as usual, and you're done!

Option Two:

Post your work to the Exchange collection directly through the Collection page by clicking the Post to Collection button.
It should lead you to the Post new work page for the Collection. Then proceed as above and gift your work to the community!.

When you're done, your work should look something like this:

Please note that before the reveals, the work will be listed as Anonymous. Don’t worry about it! It means everything’s right.

This is a summary of what happens in Avengers volume 1, with what, in my opinion, are the best storylines. I’ll add the bonus SteveTony elements if there are any (indicated with * to *** for the amount of SteveTony-ess)! Between the issues to read I will put a brief summary of what happened to understand the story better (they are between parenthesis and in italics).

PART 1: 001 - 221 is here

image

A quick recap from the past issues: the current Avengers are She-Hulk, Hawkeye, Captain America, Iron Man, Thor and Wasp who is the leader. Of the main past Avengers, Wanda and Vision are married and living happily ever after somewhere, Pietro is with Crystal and their daughter, Yellowjacket is in prison because of a misunderstanding, and in general he has been discharged from the Avengers because he hit Janet and he tried to attack the Avengers. Janet and Hank divorced. Scott Lang, now Ant-Man, is working for Tony Stark. Only Cap, Thor and Tigra know Tony is Iron Man.

I am re reading Avengers Volume 1 so I decided to do the same thing i did for Iron Man v1, and I wrote down the best/important storylines and issues in Avengers volume 1 :D (in my opinion, of course)
This is part 1, from the beginning to the new Avenger team in #221. I decided to start this list whie I was reading the Kree-Srull Wars so my memories of the first arcs are pretty vague regarding the Steve/Tony interactions and plot summaries. I will update this in the future, rereading the first issues.

I hope this is allowed (otherwise I'll delete it) and I know someone else probably already did this, but last year I reread Iron Man volume 1 and wrote down a ist of issues that, in my opinion, were the best to read to get the whole 'volume 1 picture' of Tony Stark, his story and his character. I have actually never posted in this community before, but I used to post on the livejournal mirror community before migrating to tumblr, so I really hope this is okay!

Also, I am doing the same with Avengers v1!

Because we are of the stance that there can never be enough Steve/Tony fanworks of any kind, and we’d like to see more Steve/Tony podfic and see more podficcers play in our Steve/Tony bingo and other events, we’ve put together a list of Steve/Tony writers who give permission to have their works podficced.

Podficcers, we hope this resource is useful to you!

Thank you [livejournal.com profile] magicasen for the banner!

This is a call to the fandom’s creators! If you have created Steve/Tony works and you are open to having your work podficced, then comment on this post with the following information. You can also get yourself added by emailing us at cap.im.mod@gmail.com.

(Just copy paste this to the comment box and fill in your information.)

In the permission section you can give a blanket permission (that means you are good with all of your works being podficced) or you can specify that you only want certain stories to be podficced and not others or you could indicate that you want to be asked on a case by case basis. You can come back at any time and tell us to change your statement/status on the list. We also encourage you to put in a fanworks permission statement in your AO3 profile or other fannish platform (like your Dreamwidth profile) so that people know you're happy to inspire creativity in others.

I’m not sure I want to be on the list? What is podfic?

If you want to learn more about podfic, check out the Fanlore podfic article. To quote:
Podfic is an audio recording of fanfic, read aloud by a fan (or several).

If you want to get a taste of it a good place to start is the audiofic archive. They do have a Steve/Tony tag you can get lost in! There is also the filtered AO3 tag, which is growing every year!

The List of Podfic-friendly Steve/Tony Writers in Alphabetical Order

This list is not an exhaustive list of all podfic-friendly Steve/Tony writers in the fandom, but a directory of all the people who commented here or emailed us to indicate they are open to have their work podficced.

If you notice any typos/broken/misdirected links, or you'd like to be removed/added from the list, please let us know!

We welcome any signalboosting of this post using the banner above, and if you know Steve/Tony writers who have publicly posted permission statements but are not yet on the list, let them know they can add themselves here.

We'd also like to point you towards rindle's Fanwork Permission Statements (FPS) List: it's a multi-fandom database of creative people who are happy to inspire creativity in others, and have posted Blanket Permission Statements to say so. BrickGrass has created a beautiful script on github that highlights AO3 users listed as having blanket permission in rindle's FPS list in green, so that it's easy to find works that you can transform into other media.

There is also a very long List of Authors Who Give Blanket Permission to Podfic on Fanlore.

Have fun podficcing and listening to more Steve/Tony podfic (don't forget to kudos and comment). Spread the love!

UPDATE: This page is no longer kept up-to-date with our event masterlists. Check out our new and updated Event Masterlists and Fanwork Recs page!

Whether you are new to the pairing and its history and feel overwhelmed by all the amazing fanworks that are out there or have been a fan of it long and are looking for some new recs, here are some places for you to get started.

Cap-IronMan Community

Lots of fanworks can be found posted right here on the [community profile] cap_ironman community. You can browse them using the tags for medium, universe, creator, rating, etc..

You can also peruse the Cap/Iron Man Event Collections on AO3 if you prefer to read there (although note, that these only have the works posted to AO3 for these challenges and not necessarily all fanworks created for a single event), which will hold only stories that were created for specific events and not all works posted on the community:

If you are looking for recommendations, the [livejournal.com profile] cap_ironman community ran the “Recs Week” several times and we are planning to do so again in the future, collecting recommendations for fanworks our members enjoyed. To see all the fanworks that were recced by our users on these occasions you can browse the recs week tag or you can browse our rec week round up posts from previous rec weeks.

2017 Rec Week Round-Up
2016 Rec Week Round-Up
2015 Rec Week Round-Up
2014 Rec Week Round-Up
2012 Rec Week Round-Up
2010 Rec Week Round-Up

We also have a general recs tag that hasn’t seen much action from the community yet, but that people can use for tagging recs posted to the community or post about their own rec lists. So go ahead and share your recs, please!

Other places to look for Steve/Tony fanwork recommendations and maybe share your own:

The now classic Steve/Tony Ship Manifesto lists recs for early fics written for the pairing.

There is a whole bunch of fanworks listed directly on the Steve/Tony fanlore page and there is a section that lists plenty of Steve/Tony rec lists around the net there, too. (Remember it’s a wiki project of the OTW that all fans can join in and help edit at any time. So if you think something is missing there, please don’t point it out to us, you can jump right in and help keep information on Steve/Tony fandom accurate and up to date yourself. But please mind the rules of fanlore if you do.)

The [livejournal.com profile] epic_recs community has a Steve/Tony tag for your browsing convenience. The focus of the community is on fic recs for longer fic, but shorter fics and other fanwork types are also recced on occasion.

Anyone can leave recs for the themed rounds at [community profile] fancake . It’s a good place to share your enthusiasm. For browsing convenience they have a a Steve/Tony tag on their pinboard.

At [community profile] bestthingever people are invited to share the new awesome fanworks they came across and want to rec right now. They too have a a Steve/Tony tag on their pinboard.

Some tumblrs you should absolutely check out for recs are The Stony Library and Stony Fic.

Some other rec lists:
[livejournal.com profile] xbeax compiled lists of all her Steve/Tony recs sorted by universe.
[livejournal.com profile] endeni compiled a Steve/Tony rec list.
[livejournal.com profile] sineala compiled a reclist here.
[livejournal.com profile] bbucndrvemycar compiled a Masterlist of all her Steve/Tony Recs.
[livejournal.com profile] ria_reads recs Steve/Tony fic on her own journal here.
The SteveTonyFeels tumblr has a rec list here.
The Daily super Husbands tumblr has a rec list here.
Also there is a SteveTony fic recs tumblr.

Fic Search Communities:

As we do not allow fic searches on the comm we want again point out that if you’re looking for a specific fic you once read or are looking for recs that include specific themes or tropes you like it’s a good bet to post your question to a fic search community like [community profile] cap_im_search, [livejournal.com profile] cap_im_finders and [livejournal.com profile] avengers_search.

If you have any comments or want to point us at other Steve/Tony rec lists we’re not yet linking to from here. yet, please let us know in the comments! We’ll add it to this list then. Most rec lists we have compiled are for fic. Are there any for other fanworks out there that we are missing? Remember you can also simply make a post on the comm pointing to where you keep your own recs and tag it with “recs”.

Unconventional Courtship generator plugs fandom character names into 100's of romance novel summaries. It's a great plot bunny farm. You can make your own custom character version, or you can use the one I made for MCU.

Unconventional Courtship Generator, MCU Avengers version has my custom MCU Avengers as an option. Click on it & you'll have the random pairings chosen from Tony, Steve, Bruce, Pepper, Natasha, Thor, Clint, Jarvis, Fury, Rhodey, and Bucky. (Edwin Jarvis isn't strictly speaking MCU, but I wanted him in there.) To make purely Stony pairings put Tony Stark and Steve Rogers in the text boxes.

Italian by birth, this street urchin lived a life of extreme poverty until he escaped to Brazil - where he cast off his roots, took a new name, and pulled himself up from the streets.
Now Tony Stark is beyond wealthy, with a reputation for being uncompromising in business . . . and incomparable in bed! But on meeting vulnerable Steve Rogers he feels something deep within him stir, and he finds himself pretending to be that long-forgotten man.
Passion flares and their affair spirals, but Steve still doesn't know that his lover has lied to him. Who is the real Tony Stark?

Welcome to the [livejournal.com profile] cap_ironman slashy moments list! This is where we collect all the delicious slashy moments from comics canon that might make people understand a little better why we ship it and give those new to the comics a hint of stories and issues they might want to check out or serve as a reminder to fanworkers who are looking for a quick reminder which part of canon they might want to play with..

Over the years the Steve/Tony community has put a lot of work into maintaining, organizing and hosting this list. In the beginning this list was maintained by [livejournal.com profile] crimsonquills (original here, with reposts here and here) and later by the awesome [livejournal.com profile] muccamukk who also hosted the moments on her photobucket account (index here). The community owes you guys!

The list has now finally completely been moved to its new home at our Slashy Moments List Tumblr (the tumblr index is here). You can browse it over there or use this index to get to all the slashy moments.

We are aware that this list is far from finished or even up to date and that there are possibly tons of moments we didn't even know or think about when the list was made. We see this list as a community effort and welcome all your input! As before, we encourage everyone to comment with new moments, corrections to wrong issues/identities of characters/etc., missing information, and so on. Also we might ask community input when we get scans for issues that we're not sure where to put in the chronology.

Putting the list in chronological order within the universes means that new moments won't always be conveniently at the bottom of their section. But you can track what has been newly added by looking at the Tumblr mentioned above. Which starting 2016 we hope to be updating with new moments finally!

USEFUL LINKS

Remember that Dreamwidth has extensive support documents which can be found here. For specific instructions on joining and posting a community look here.

This is the link to the mobile interface for Dreamwidth.

LANGUAGE

You are welcome and encouraged to post content in any language that you like. However, the community's working language is English, and so we ask that the title, creator, rating, warnings and universe be listed in English in addition to your chosen language, so that mods can check your post easily. Please note that all tags are in English.

Posting: A Step by Step Guide

Step One:
Make sure that you are posting to the [community profile] cap_ironman community, not to your own Dreamwidth Journal.

After logging into your account, go to the community page. You will find the "post" button below where it says that you are a member of the community (if you haven't joined, the text will instead say that you are viewing the community, and instead of post you will have a "Join" button).

An alternative way is to click straight on post, and then change your "Posting" destination to [community profile] cap_ironman (note this will only work with communities that you have already joined and have posting access to).

Step Two:
Make sure that you are in HTML and have enabled auto-formatting - this means you don't have to add paragraph tags. We recommend that you use HTML editor, as this keeps your post clean of any stray styling that come over with a copy/paste from a google or word document. Custom styling in posts (custom font face, custom colors etc) can make it harder to read for some users because it overrides their own settings and preferences.

Paste in the cap-ironman template (this will be in the posting instructions for a challenge) and fill it in with your work's details, or use the guide below for what to include in your post.

You can use the Dreamwidth "Supported HTML" and "HTML Examples" to help you format your post. Don't forget to right-click and open them in a new tab!

Step Three:
Once you have filled out your post and are ready to publish it to the comm, double check what it will look like! You can do this by hitting the "Preview" button at the bottom of the page, or by switching the Editor to "Rich Text". Please note that clicking "Preview" will mean that Dreamwidth notifies you of any HTML errors, whereas changing to "Rich Text" editor will mean that any mangled code may simply disappear, along with sections of your post.

Step Four:
After double-checking your post and tags, you can choose to personalise the post with a mood, music you are listening to, etc. You can update the time of your post so that it shows when you published it, rather than when you started the draft. Changing the time of your post will only affect the time that shows up for people as the "posting date" - it will not queue up a post. When you are ready, hit "post to: cap_ironman" and then you're done!

Post Formatting: Fanworks

HEADER: what information should you include?
[community profile] cap_ironman does not have a fixed header, but posted fanworks should include at least the following information: title, creator, rating, warnings, universe.

If you'd like, you may copy the following code for your post and adjust the information as needed:

TAGGING YOUR POST
Fanworks should be tagged with the following tags:
  • creator
  • rating
  • universe
  • challenge/fest (if applicable)
Additional tags such as genre are optional. You can look at all the community tags here to check all of [community profile] cap_ironman's existing tags.

Please note that due to a Dreamwidth glitch, if you add a tag that does not yet exist, then none of your tags will show up and you will need to re-tag your post.

If this is your first time posting on the comm, you will need a creator tag made for you - please let a moderator know by commenting on or in your post. (These appear under the tag list in the format x: username.) If your post isn't tagged, the mods will either tag your post appropriately or ask you to tag your post in the comments.

RATINGS AND WARNINGS
Whichever ratings system you use, please mark adult content clearly and put it behind a cut or fake cut (a fake cut is a link to your own journal or another posting place). We also have a not safe for work! tag.

Warnings
Warnings are mandatory for graphic violence, major character death, rape/non/dub-con, underage sex. Warnings are suggested for things like suicide, self-harm, substance abuse, oppressive language, etc.

If you would like to mask your spoilers, use the code in the box below.

Triggers
We encourage readers with triggers to ask the author if their story contains a particular trigger before reading.

Additional Content Warnings
Help other fans know if your fanwork will be to their tastes. Consider flagging your work for things like mpreg, kidfic, BDSM, specific kinks, genderswap, infidelity, H/C, etc.

ADDITIONAL FORMATTING
Long Posts and Cuts
Please place spoilers, big chunks of text, large images, and image batches behind an cut. For Dreamwidth, use the code in the box below.

Additional Formatting and Rules
Certain events and challenges may have their own specific posting guidelines. Please follow those guidelines when you're making challenge posts.

Posting Etiquette: What's Encouraged and Allowed

We encourage you to share all your Steve/Tony fanworks! This includes: fic, art, meta, canon recaps, cosplay, crafts, gifs, discussion, mixes, news, videos — you name it.

If you have an idea for a Steve/Tony mini-challenge that you'd like to host within the posts and comments section of our community, we'd love to hear it! Just let the mods know before posting.

All posts must relate to Steve Rogers, Tony Stark, and the relationship between them. Please remain on topic.

The focus of all posts should be on Steve and Tony. Secondary pairings and background threesomes should remain in the background and not be the focus.

The following posts are not allowed:
  • Irrelevant posts. All posts made on [community profile] cap_ironman should pertain to Steve Rogers and Tony Stark's relationship, or the characters and their franchises by themselves.

  • Scans and Illegal downloads. Do not post or link to illegal downloads. Scans are permitted in moderation (ie, do not post whole issues) and should be placed behind a cut.

  • Unsolicited or unapproved advertisements. Any non-fanwork post that promotes a fandom challenge, event, or space that is unaffiliated with [community profile] cap_ironman is not allowed without permission. Please ask a moderator here before posting.

  • Fic searches. Please direct your searches to [community profile] cap_im_search, [livejournal.com profile] cap_im_finders or [livejournal.com profile] avengers_search

If you're liked to promote your event or fandom space in our community, please head to our Advertisements page to see what sort of advertisements are acceptable and how to ask for permission.

And our most important rule: be excellent to everyone. Hate, personal attacks and kink shaming? To quote Cap, "Son, just don't." Use the back button instead and stay classy.

So [livejournal.com profile] salmastryon linked me to a series of posts about non-sexual intimacies in chat a few weeks back and I thought I'd share both that link and some others I found with the comm.  Each of the blogs here also offers advice on a ton of other writing topics.

Hello, all.  I am a bit behind the times and have finally gotten a tumblr.  I'm not sure how often this tumblr will be used, that is neither here nor there.  What is both here and there, is that I really don't navigate tumblr much outside of what other people send me.  And since there's no one currently in the irc channel to ask, I figured I'd post here.

What tumblr blogs do I go to for a Steve/Tony fix?  Or tags.  I'm not sure I've figured out how the tags really work across tumblr, mostly because China hates tags (and all of tumblr at the moment, but that's beside the point).  I've got the com tumblr followed, but I know that can't be all there is out there.  Basically, give me all of your favorite Steve/Tony or Avenger-y things.  Or otherwise just discuss fandom on tumblr.  Both work for me.
