Drabble: Ultimates, G, The Little Things

Title The Little Things
Rating G
Characters Steve/Tony
Word Count 100

The Little Things
As he entered Steve's room, Tony tried to ignore the giddy four-year-old inside him.

"In a 1942 interview, you mentioned you wanted to see Pinocchio when you got home," Tony announced.

Steve shrugged, "So?"

Tony held up two tickets. "A theater down the way is playing it."

Steve glanced at the second ticket and Tony put on the best mask of his life. "Don't read too much into that. The movie happens to be a favorite of mine."

Steve paused then smiled almost shyly. "That . . . actually sounds nice."

Inside Tony, a four year old whooped with glee.

If people keep posting such awesome Ultimates fic, then I'm going to wind reading the whole damn thing, and Orson Scott Card's Ultimate Iron Man was enough, thanks...

Ultimates isn't THAT bad.

That is, until you arrive to the third volume.

I just don't know what the heck happened there.

[identity profile] dieewigenacht.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
You mean the art?

Yeah, poor Thor, he was completely destroyed...I mean, seriously, from one volume to the other he changed for the worse, he aged and gained a fuckload of beard.

I kinda like how Tony looks though...And Steve, Steve looks good in some places, Pietro as well.

The Blob scares the shit out of me.

Now, talking about the Story, I feel like there was no continuity between the second volume and the third one, I mean there was the Black widow thing and that's pretty much it, becuase everything went pretty quickly and after the third issue I was completely lost.

May be the writers or the fact that my english sometimes fails me (Spanish speaker here).

I just couldn't understand what the hell happened.

No, it's not you

It's Loeb. Loeb was epic fail. Then I guess since the editorial choice was to break the Ultimate verse (when Magneto decides to destroy the world because it took his children in a way) they just decided to go broke. Heh. A LOT of Ultimate titles have been cancelled (X-men, Fantastic Four just to name a few). Hence the magneto smash.

Heh, I liked the art. I'll get my coat now.

Which Loeb Who What NOW?!!

[identity profile] perrypadfoot.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Loeb? As in Jeph Loeb? As in epic Batman trilogy Loeb?

See, this is what happens when you get your DC in your Marvel and your Marvel in your DC. FAIL.

Ayup. Loeb

[identity profile] jazzypom.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Man went all batshit crazy over the Ultimates. I'm just glad that Millar is coming back.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!

*sigh* I'm sorry, but Marvel and DC are two great tastes that most deifinitely DON'T UNDER ALMOST ANY CIRCUMSTANCES go anywhere decent together.

Unless it involve Gaiman, Ellis, Enis, or Kubert. Those guys I would follow off a cliff.

*shrugs*

[identity profile] jazzypom.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Most comic writers/artists tend to dance between the big two, sooooo...

But yeah, I hear you re the names you mentioned.

I'm one of those people who doesn't like their food to touch, much less my comic book universes to mesh. It weirds me out too much...

The Gaiman/Kubert team is one of my favorites, ie: Marvel 1602 and Batman Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader?

[identity profile] perrypadfoot.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I have a severe dislike for Millar, though, so... meh.

I like Origins

[identity profile] hohaiyee.livejournal.com 2009-06-06 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
It was good.

Ultimatum has fucking awful art...Carol Denvers looked completely different to how she was drawn in Origins, at first I thought it was a pin up fantasy version of Sharon. In Origins, Carol had short hair, in Ultimatum, she had flowing locks, and she entered the scene in ridiculous fanservice pose. She was holding two giant guns up...she's gong to sprain her wrist! Her boobs was the size of her head, and they gave her two giant guns to hold upwards so her arms won't get in the way of the boobs.

Mary Jane and Gwen Stacy was identical except for the hair colour, as was Carol to them in the smaller panel...and it actually looked a bit like how Jessica Drew was drawn in the first volume of the New Avengers. Everyone had identical small noses. It's like they drawn everyone using photo reference of barbie and ken. AHHHHHHHHH!

Do not read Orson Scott Card

[identity profile] jazzypom.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 07:44 am (UTC)(link)
Ultimates came out way before his stuff did. Millar is the guy to look at, the first two volumes are The Ultimates, I don't know what Card was on.

Re: Do not read Orson Scott Card

[identity profile] perrypadfoot.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
No, I LIKED Card's Iron Man, but I don't like Millar. I was saying that Card's UIM was really as far into that universe as I wanted to go because 616 is depressing enough already.
ext_18328: (Default)

Yeah... Millar is crude

[identity profile] jazzypom.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I honestly can't erm... defend him at all. But seriously, the first two trades were fun. I'm curious to see what his take on Ultimate Avengers will be!

Re: Yeah... Millar is crude

[identity profile] perrypadfoot.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
It's like if Spider Jerusalem got hit over the head with the Red-Neck Brick and decided to write comic books... doesn't go! I have a deep seeded hate for Millar that frightens my girlfriend.
ext_18328: (Default)

Hee, I can understand

[identity profile] jazzypom.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I really can. I do remember dropping The Authority soon after he came on. BUT Millar is many things, but not boring. So, he gets a pass with me. His Ultimates surprised me, because it was restrained and funny. Ultimates made me actually excited to read comics again. The sheer scope and fun of it.

I'd recommend you reading Ultimates novelisations if you can't read the comics. Against All Enemies is quite good and the universe isn't grim dark at all. Everyone lives at the end.

Re: Hee, I can understand

[identity profile] perrypadfoot.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
...I'll try. I can't promise much though... cause, y'know, infinate raging hate...

Novelisation? Of a comic book? That's... really weird...
ext_18328: (Default)

No, not really

[identity profile] jazzypom.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
No different from the novelisation of Iron Man the movie by that guy who I refuse to name. But yes. The novelisation of the Ultimates (Against All Enemies, not Tomorrow men) was pretty good. Like, Steve came across as sympathetic, as much as santimonious. Tony Stark was his free wheeling dissipated self, but he grew into the hero suit. There's like, Steve and Tony snarking! Steve and Tony together eating a sandwich! Seriously, the novelisations are decent.

Re: No, not really

[identity profile] perrypadfoot.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Novelisation... of the IM movie... what?

I'm going to Spartanburg tomorrow and am dropping by B&N, I'll see if they have it.
ext_18328: (Default)

Yeah

[identity profile] jazzypom.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
PAD wrote the novelisation of Iron Man. Like, some of the scenes in teh book (where Tony goes to Dubai, for example) were cut from the movie. The Ultimates also have the cartoons called The Ultimate Avengers. You might like the cartoons (of which there are two). They are like, a kinder, gentler version of the comics. There's still tension between Hank and Jan, but it's not violent. Tony is still dissipated and he ribs Steve. The cartoons are worth a butchers or two.

[identity profile] tavella.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
Aw, that's a wonderful little detail. I really quite liked the Tony that showed up in the first GN of Ultimates, before Millar went for making *everyone* a total asshole instead of just Hank and Bruce. I can see that Tony, the one that saved Steve's helmet, doing this.

[identity profile] tsukinofaerii.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 02:37 pm (UTC)(link)
UltTony's inner 4 year old needs to be let out into the fresh air more often. Seriously. It's is great! (Also, I'm pretty sure working within exactly 100 words is a lesser-known superpower. ♥)

[identity profile] crimsonquills.livejournal.com 2009-06-14 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
This is so cute. :-D
