First Marvel Art post: For What It's Worth (There's Nowhere I'd Rather Be)

*waves hello shyly* I've never posted on this community yet but I've been a devout lurker/appreciator for a while now. I've always been meaning to draw more for Steve and Tony (oh, how I love you boys!) but the drawing of human musculature remains intimidating. I hope this will still prove to be of some artistic/entertainment merit. ._.

Title: For What It's Worth (There's Nowhere I'd Rather Be)
Artist: [livejournal.com profile] red_rahl
Rating: G
Characters/Pairing: Captain America/Ironman (or -woman)
Disclaimer: These characters belong to Marvel. I'm just borrowing them for a little bit.
Warnings: Alternate Earths and gender permutations exploration.
Done For: [livejournal.com profile] oh_shit_santa's OSS Summer Challenge '09: Ride It Like You Stole It: Sidesaddle Edition! (It was a free-for-all fest in terms of fandoms that had to include females in the work in some fashion.)
Notes: I decided to draw Steve/Tony in all their gender permutations because I was always taken with that one Alternate Earth's Cap/Iron Woman wedding and then I wondered what the couple would be like on other Earths if their genders were changed up some more. Hopefully what I came up with isn't too out there.
- Title was conceived with Steve's last question to Tony in Civil War and Tony's answer in Civil War: Confession in mind.
- The first panel is totally wishful thinking on my part. (Damn you, Marvel, why can't your Civil War be more like Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2?!)
- In the pertinent panels, coming up with a design for Iron Woman's armor was hard (especially the unseen front part). !_!
- I shamelessly borrowed the background for the last panel from the Civil War What-if issue.

This is brilliant! Thank you for the last panel especially.

OTP no matter what gender

I kind of want to know the story behind Steph and Tony, it seems all other realities have a happy ending but in that particular one their dialogue and the shadows on the left give me the feeling that they are being hunted down(SHRA people? H.A.M.M.E.R? and Steph will have to confront them alone to give Tony a means of escape (I am already making a little story in my head, lol).

That said I love this drawing and I like the fact that this OTP is strong regardless of gender.

Awww, so cool to finally see this concept realized! \o/

Oh man, I love this! I've always had a soft spot for Marvel's alternative universes, and it really can't get any better than this XDb I especially love the 616 one (for obvious reasons), and the last one -- Cap's hairstyle suits her so well!

Also... I've been your fan for a long time, and I must say that I'm reeeally excited to see you dabble in the Marvel world ♡

*glee* I'm not sure which I love more, the first one with Steve and Tony embracing in the wreckage (which is exactly how I always wanted their reunion to go in my head, and I love that Tony's wearing one of the old school early armor designs there, in contrast to the other ppanels) or the third one, with the computer-y lights in the background (the Extremis?) and the shadowy person sneaking up on them and Tony and Steph saying goodbye in the darkness. Also, on a purely shallow note, I love Steph's curves in #3 -- proof that superheroines can be hot without dressing like strippers, since the Captain America costume is the same as always.

[identity profile] tsukinofaerii.livejournal.com 2009-10-05 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)
*SQUEE* OH! OH! (flailyfistmouth) I don't know where to start! ♥ ♥ ♥ SO MUCH!!! Except that I am completely distracted by the curve of Steph's back in the third panel. :o

... (returns to incoherency)

[identity profile] joysweeper.livejournal.com 2009-10-05 01:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Awww...

I like how both of them took hyphenated last names in 3940.

[identity profile] otherhazards.livejournal.com 2009-10-05 01:43 pm (UTC)(link)
The first... and the LAST...
And the ones in between aren't bad either. (G)
Steph's unaltered costume works oddly well. In a 'stare HERE' sense, as far as the star's concerned. Also, the white sleeves seem really... girly. Frustratingly pure, like a Southern belle's long gloves. I never noticed that before, on Steve. Yet Steph's clearly a badass too. Beautiful, but in many of the same ways as a military airplane. ...Which doesn't strike me as being a problem for Tony(/Toni).
Bonus points for Steph's 1939 hair.

Steph/Tony in 'Earth-????' is a stolen moment. A comfortably jarring note, that stays true to the characters' luck, and the things that tend to be written for them.

'Earth 616' is win, and may it happen soon.

This is such a pleasure to stare at. I love their good-natured debate in the second panel.

And your genderbending is lovely. Steph looks like a REAL woman! And your Natasha/Toni actually looks like the Tony we're used to. I can see the resemblance.

Very well done! Hope to see more of you around here. :)

How do I love this? Let me count the ways.
I love this to the depth and breadth and height
My squee can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of Fandom and ideal Grace.
I love this to the level of everyday's
Most meta need, by sun and laptop-light.
I love this freely, as Steve strives for Right;
I love this purely, as Tony turns from Praise.
I love this with the passion put to use
In my old OTPs, and with my fangirl's faith,
I love this with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost canons--I love this with the fanon
Smiles, tears, of all my life--and if TPTB choose,
I shall but love this better as my canon.

This is fabulous! I love how much you do with their facial expressions, the desperation in the first panel and the mischievous looks in the second. Your girl!Steve is gorgeous, makes me want to see a comic book with her.

[identity profile] deathangelgw.livejournal.com 2009-10-05 05:06 pm (UTC)(link)
you've inspired me to write a genderswapping Steve/Tony fic.....oh man

[identity profile] sparklemagpie.livejournal.com 2009-10-05 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
.... RIGHT. I'LL BE OVER HERE DYING OF JOY KTHX!

I really really love how Toni and Steph, really do still look like Tony and Steve even while being distinctly feminine. <3 Toni/Steve is my OTP to end all OTP's but I love Tony and Steph the best out of all those! <3

*squee-flail-spaz-die* ... I just squeed so loudly and animately my roommate thought I was having some sort of siezure or epileptic/organ attack.
I'm not sure if I love the first panel, last panel or next to last panel best... Sad to say I'm a bit of a sadist and love to torcher my favorite characters so 3490 always irked me. Hmm, probably the last panel. I love that Steph is still obviously taller than Toni. That is amusing the living daylights out of me! I can be so simple minded sometimes...

Wow, these are fantastic. I love the light coming through the dust in the first one, Toni's smile in the second one, the mysterious story behind the third one, and the way Steph has her arms around Toni in the last one. All of them are gorgeous!

I have absolutely no previous encounter with this fandom, but I loved your HP works, and came here to take a look -- and I was blown away by the very first panel. I really enjoyed the other panels as well, but my eye kept coming back to the first one. I suspect I would enjoy it a whole lot more if I had more experience with the pairing -- but it's a wonderful piece of art that makes me feel for these characters I don't know! Now you've got me curious about them!

OH MAN YOU LIKE STEVE/TONY TOO. >_< JESUS. I feel like such a dork, because I saw your name and was all giddy at the idea of more art because I adore your HP stuff.

These are just gorgeous - so expressive. And wow, Steph's costume looks so sleek and elegant, despite being just the same as Steve's.

I really like how the shape of the armour is sort of softened, so it's clear it's a woman in it without going all METAL BOOBS. And 3490-Steve makes me d'aww so hard, look at him all snuggly. <3 Steve needs someone to hug, dammit.

Also it would appear Tony can only be happy in universes where he has breasts. This doesn't seem unreasonable at all. :D

Dear god, this made me day.
THANK YOU!!!

This is a good post and you should feel good about it. I love the fact that you didn't modify the costume at all, and it still looks really feminine. That amused me. As another poster said, the star becomes something of a eye-magnet. I'm impressed you actually got the scale-mail. That's hard to do correctly. One thing though. The first one, the 616 one, I'm not sure what Tony's lower body is doing. He's about, what? 6 feet out of armor*, 6'6'' in? So I'm imagining Tony kind of crouching/about to collapse/curling forward that doesn't quite word unless Steve is standing on some wreckage. Stev's about... wanna say 6'2'', but it's not like they're consistant about things like that.

Oh, and Steve's hair in the last one. Very pretty. And sensible. No easily grabable flowing locks for Steph! I love the gender flip posts.

*Keep misspelling this amour. Odd trains of thought get started this way.
