Yeah. Exactly what I was thinking. From my knowledge, he wasn't even within the group of people they were interviewing for the part. It seems as though they pulled him out of nowhere because they couldn't make a final decision.
I wasn't sold on Ledger's Joker. Sure, he was a great psycho...I just didn't feel that he was the Joker. His whole big scheme just didn't feel like something Joker would do - not enough (horribly) dark humour was in it, imho.
Yeah, I LOVE Nolanverse!Joker... but as his entirely own character. It bears mentioning that Mark Hamill is my Joker forever, basically because he does bring that dark humor aspect into everything.
Okay, can I just point something out here? The Fantastic Four movies that he was in have absolutely nothing to do with the current Marvel productions. They aren't the same universe at all.
It's like saying that Ryan Reynolds can't play the Green Lantern because he's been Deadpool, or Hannibal King.
I mean, if you agree with that, fine. That's your opinion. But, to me anyway, it doesn't seem like that argument holds much water.
I actually did recently rent it because I had a friend who said the same thing to me in response to how I reacted to the Captain America casting. It didn't really change my mind.
Having done some research into this (mainly watching F4, Push and The Losers), I have come out in favour of the man. I like him. I think he'll do a good job.
I don't doubt his acting chops. I'm more worried as to how he'll fair once the Avengers get together. He's gotta pull off having all these other heroes being somewhat in awe of him, and then have them look to him for leadership. That'll be the big test on how swell of a pick he was.
Fantastic Four aside, the man is a good actor, so I'm not worried about that at all. It's the whole story that has me worried, since we don't know how they are going to go at it.
Also, I think he needs to build himself up a little! He's got the face down, but he needs to be a bigger built, so he better hit the gym!
I'm in two minds about it. I'm wanting to give him a chance but, equally, I thought he made such a good Johnny Storm that I just can't imagine him as Captain America.
That's where I'm at too. Even if these movies are technically filmed by different production companies, he's still my movie!verse Johnny Storm and I liked him as Johnny Storm. Maybe he'll be great as Captain America, but it is hard for me to fathom, especially considering those two characters personalities are so far apart.
I certainly hope it's good even if this means I now need a new Johnny.
I'm finally at peace with the casting after seeing The Losers but I'm not sure if that is because I thought he did a good job, or that I am lusting over his t-shirts from that movie. My friend and I have started talking about how he will be Cap, but in the end it just turns into "but weren't the shirts he had on awesome?"
Like others, I'm worried more about script. Even with the most perfect person ever a bad script would stink it all up.
Unless he goes shirtless and makes out with RDJ, I don't think I'm liking this. All I will see is the Human Torch. He is a good actor and all, but I just can't see him in two different roles.
I loved him in the Losers, so I am willing to give him a chance. I'm mostly worried about how he'll fare with RDJ and SLJ. Sure, he's a good actor, but those two know how to chew themselves up some scenery, and steal the show while they're at it. Keeping up will be tough!
Honestly he had me sold when I saw him in The Losers. But I'll save my judgements when the movie comes out. I mean hey you never know, I'm usually very pessimistic about these types of things but I'm willing to give him a chance :D

...that being said, I think Frank Valley would've made a perfect Cap if he wasn't already busy right now. Oh well!
