Avengers Prime #2: Complete That Thought!

Avengers Prime #2 hit the shelves today. I just want to highlight some subtext.

In this issue of Avengers Prime, Tony, Thor, and Steve go off on their own adventures. In Steve's, he makes out with an Empathic Chick Who Reminds Him Of Wanda. Yeah, I know. But before he does, he says:

Steve: I just -- I didn't do enough for [Wanda]. I couldn't help her when she needed help. And now I -- I'm getting a chance at life. A third chance really and I - I think I maybe he making the same mistakes again. I'm fighting with my brothers when I feel nothing but love and respect for them. I stand my ground on principle when all I really want to do is -- Um, why am I pouring myself out like this?

Non!Wanda: That would be my doing, mortal. I am empathic. Don't be ashamed of your true feelings. They are quite beautiful.

So... What does Steve really want to do?

Is he even fighting with Thor? I mean... surely the Steve-Thor interaction should be 'yay you're not dead!' from both sides.

Also, Steve. Don't cheat on Sharon! (Or is this evidence Steve and Sharon have an open relationship?)

I have trouble believing that Steve would be alright with an open relationship, because... well because it's STEVE for crying out loud.

Well, I guess I find an open relationship more believable than cheating for him. :/

True... I see your point.

However, you could argue that he was manipulated into the relationship by the non!Wanda empath. After all, Steve did like Wanda, that was canon, and a good empath could manipulate that into stronger feelings... So, theoretically, we could just blame it on the non!Wanda empath...

I'm going to go with that plan, personally.

If I were a hot empathic chick and Steve wandered past, I would definitely pounce. Shortly, Steve will say 'so actually I have a girlfriend, um' and she will be 'oops' and later on Steve will be 'there was accidental making out, Sharon,' and Sharon will be, 'sure there was. You may earn my forgiveness by accidentally making out with Bucky. Natasha's forgiveness, too.' And Steve will be :/ 'why do I need Natasha's forgiveness?' and Sharon will be 'DUH for kissing her boyfriend?' and Natasha will be, 'yes, I demand recompense. Here is your martini, Sharon, pull up a chair and let us observe the proceedings.'

I seem to have slightly misplaced my chain of thought at some stage.

yeah I was wondering about what was wrong between Steve and Thor. I'm like, to my knowledge they have no quarrel unless [looks at Marvel] and man wouldn't it be an interesting twist that Thor actually points out Civil War (and in essence the events leading to Siege) was also Cap's fault as well since he and Tony didn't talk. But I don't think that would be likely I guess. I know in an interview, Bendis said that Thor and Steve have more issues with Tony then with each other...so maybe this is a makeup with Tony thing rather then the THREE making up.

Well, given the Thor-Steve conversation while Steve was dead, and the Tony-Thor interaction just after Thor returned, it seems Thor's sympathies lie heavily with Steve - which is pretty in-character for him, he's never been one for compromise or believing the ends justify the means, and he was pretty cheesed off with Clor.

But he also was happy to shut down Steve and Tony when they squabbled, so. Although that may just have been a passionate demand for attention for Thor, please! His city just fell down! Love him!

Perhaps it's just that Steve wants to be all happy and huggy because finally his best buddies are both with him and they're all alive and SHRA is over, but ISSUES, and that's making him grumpy and snipey at the pair of them, and he doesn't like it.

I dunno. I can sympathize. I want the fight to be over, but I still feel they can't just brush it under the carpet. I want a hot empathic chick to tell me my feelings are beautiful!

I may not be empathic nor a chick, and questionably hot, but, your feelings are beautiful.

How is that anything but beautiful?
