comic questions

Sorry if this is against the rules, I did read them but I may have missed it. My comic store has civil war in one hand hardbook. I want to read the parts after steve's death, that should be in it right? Also, what I'm worried about is moments that make me yell "no! you cannot beat up your best friend/boyfriend" and unfortunatly I've read a lot of things about this part that make me cringe. What do you think? How much of after steve death vs. steve and tony arguing was in this part of the comics?

Hope you don't mind me butting in: where does Cap (meaning Steve Rogers) come back to life? I just got through most of Invincible Iron Man and was slightly startled to find two Captain America's.
And can anyone tell me if I'm correct in thinking that Avengers Prime (Cap, Iron Man and Thor lost in Asgard) does not take place in the same universe as Civil War? I'm reading what I can get from the library before I start buying stuff, so I'm reading out of order and I'm a bit confuzzled (yay library).

Hahaha. Okay. Lemme explain. I was reading it in order of publication and I got confused at a few places.

Steve dies in Civil War. Tony gets to be director of SHIELD. He makes Bucky Cap in Steve's place. Aliens invade (Secret Invasion Event). Tony falls out of favour and is replaced by Norman Osborne (Dark Reign Event). Steve comes back from the dead in a mini that made no sense whatsoever, and I do mean AT ALL, called Captain America Reborn. Norman Osborn decides to attack Asgard (Siege event). At this point, Steve hasn't had much time to talk to Bucky, so they are both dressed as Cap.

Then continuity gets really, really confusing. However, essentially: Steve talks to Obama and gets made leader of SHIELD (sort of, as there is no SHIELD). He talks to Bucky and agrees that Bucky should remain Captain America. Possibly not in that order. Right after that, Avengers Prime happens.

Is that helpful or more confusing?

So...basically the people doing Avengers Prime didn't read Invincible Iron Man (which I note is still ongoing)? Because on the one hand, Tony's armor is removable, and on the other, Tony's armor is part of his actual body. Or is Invincible Iron Man supposed to be sort of an AU off-shoot from Civil War/Dark Reign?

This explains a lot of the complaints I've read about lack of continuity and Marvel authors not bothering to read the stuff other Marvel authors are putting out, despite being supposedly part of the same universe (rather than all the alternate universes. Marvel Adventures made me go "whaaa?!" several times. Still fun to read, though).

I promise I've actually checked out some of the wiki's, trying to get a sense of what happens when, but it's still kinda wacky. And some of them are overly abbreviated, while others go into way too much detail.

I appreciate the help!

Bendis, who did Prime, and Fraction, who does IIM, are both notorious for ignoring other people's canon. So, for that matter is Brubaker. This led to a complete lack of continueity between Steve coming back and the beginning of the Heroic age. Steve fluctuates between costumes. Tony's armour changes, and he gains and loses the arc reactor. Steve reunites with New Avengers twice, and with Tony for that matter. Steve's house both blows up and does not. It was a mess.

*holds up hand*

One other note! The 'reason' Tony is wearing old armor in 'Avengers Prime' is because it's supposed to be the old set given to Steve by Jarvis during Seige.

So... even though Steve has been busy getting put in charge directly after Siege (as muccamukk explained) Tony was still in the old armor just hanging about fallen Asgard recovering from heart surgery/lightening etc.

His newer 'bleeding edge' armor could be said to be up and running after he chats to Reed Richards in IIM v5 #25.

Maybe.

Interesting! I haven't read any of Secret Invasion/Dark Reign/Siege yet. I'm looking forward to it.

I didn't realize it was quite that extreme. Well, at least that means I don't have to bother trying to keep the storyline straight in my head! I'll just read and enjoy.

And if I get the urge to write anything, I won't worry about canon either.

Steve's house both blows up and does not.

I'm pretty sure it does that in Civil War, too. There the Millar-written issue where Maria Hill attacks him in his apartment in Brooklyn and he jumps out the window into the back of a fighter plane and the apartment is destroyed, and then there are later Brubaker and Bendis written issues of NA and CA that I swear feature the DUMBO apartment still being intact.

Clearly, someone should write fic about how Tony built Steve a self repairing house.
