I am hoping it is good. At least, minus the cleft chin, Chris Evans looks the part. And he looked like he buffed up for it. :D Not too thrilled with the random female addition- but hey, romance sells these days.

I hope the First Avenger is just to link him to the movie. But I also think it's just because he was the first superhero (I guess) and thats what they mean by Avenger.

It was really sad, only my fiance and I knew who Captain America was. And my fiance's mother. But it was great, she was like "Well, I know what we're getting Bonnie for her birthday, tickets to see that movie." and I was like Yaaaay! :D

Peggy's not that random. (Plus, it's not like they're going to have a happily ever after relationship or anything.)

Is Peggy as much of a BAMF in canon as she is seeming to be in this trailer?

Erm... depends on the canon? She is in the Lee stuff. She's an American fighting with the French resistance, who has an affair with Steve though they never know each other's names.. Then Englehart in his infinite skeeviness made this whole plot about how she was so stricken by hearing about Steve being lost at sea that she fell into a coma for twenty years, only waking up when he revived. Then she sort of stalked him, and was mocked by everyone for going after a younger man. After Englehart #$#!ing finally left the title, she was back on more of an even keel, and ended up running the SHIELD staff that worked with the Avengers.

In a more modern retcon by Brubaker, she continued to fight through and after the war, and the coma was retconned out.

(I forget her name - the sads). She's charming and comes across as a cracker in the other series I've seen her in (Pillars of the Earth and others). They've made a good choice. A very good choice.

I wonder where they're going with Peggy, they've obviously changed her character a whole lot. Still, a romance is quite a classic addition to wartime stories, it's hardly a modern thing. I hope it's done right, rather than a bolted-on drag to the story; but she seems to be quite integral to the plot, so that's promising.

I'm inclined to believe that a doomed wartime love only adds to Cap's story when he loses his whole life. (Although I hope that if they use Sharon, they decouple her from Peggy a bit. Working your way down the generations? Kind of creepy.)
