Discussion for Avengers Vol 3 Issue 3
This wraps up the first story arc of Avengers volume 3! Find scans here. At the end I included the letter page, which has fan reactions to the first issue, and Stan's Soapbox, which has some speculation about the Iron Man movie. From 1998.
Need to catch up?
Issue 1 part 1 scans are here and discussion is here.
Issue 1 part 2 scans are here and discussion is here.
Issue 2 scans are here and discussion is here.
So, the Avengers have entered a new era with an adventure that managed to incorporate nearly all of them. What were the highlights? Best lines? Things you would have liked to see? Things that disappointed you?
Any Yeoman America/Iron Knight plot bunnies?
The letter page prints two fan letters concerning the first issue. Do you like letter pages in your comic books? Do you prefer them to be included or dropped from trade collections? Have you ever written a letter to Marvel?
This is the last post for this read-along, so feel free to discuss anything that struck you while reading this story. And thanks for joining me in exploring one of my favorite Avengers adventures!

It makes you wonder what would happen if a task-oriented villain with the drive to see to the dirty details of world-ruling ever got hold of the Twilight Sword.
Wanda is awesome in the story, and NGL, that's one of my favorite things about it. But she's awesome in a way that doesn't overshadow other Avengers, but draws them all together. I love the image of her with all the Avengers holding on to her and each other behind her. (And of course Tony chooses to hold onto Steve once he gains his senses!)

I think this is the first really Wanda-centric story I've read (not counting parts of House of M and Dissasembled), and she really did rock. Makes Bendis's later treatment of her all the more galling.
