Free comic book day!

Ok, so due to time differences, my free comic day comes earlier than most!

Ner ner... nah, just kidding. Enjoy your Saturday!

So there are two places I can get comics in the Sydney CBD. One I got two comics from (yay!) and the other only one, but it had a setup with local comic book and manga artists, so that was pretty cool too.

Anyways, what I wanted to show was this:

This I got from David Yardin, who draws mainly X-Factor covers, but was nice enough to draw Tony for me, even if he thought having no helmet was making things overly complicated :P

Apologies for picture quality, I don't have a scanner, so this was taken on my digital camera.

Oh and yeah, as the image shows, my name's Hanna. Er, hi.

If anyone wants to know, I got Captain America Thor: The Mighty Fighting Avengers, The Amazing Spider-Man and Young Justice/ Batman the Brave and the Bold Super Sampler.

If the image doesn't work, try here: i719.photobucket.com/albums/ww198/Moon_Flame/DSCF0974.jpg

I had already seared the impossibility of any of my local comic book stores participating in the Free Comic Book Day event into my brain weeks ago ("only one out of two actually focuses on American comics, I live in a European, non-English-speaking country, there's not a big market for it"), I was positively floored when I visited their home page earlier this week saw that OH YEAH WE'RE PARTICIPATING FOR THE FIRST TIME IN FREE COMIC BOOK DAY.

Mind. Blown. So I got the Captain America/Thor issue and the YJ/Batman:BatB sampler. :D

(Then I spent the rest of the day alternating day-to-day activities with queing for a signing with Bryan Lee O'Malley and finishing the first season of The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes at a friend's place. So uh, I still haven't actually read any of the comics I got.)

And guh, gorgeous art is gorgeous. Every time I see art of Tony as he was portrayed in the early days of the series, it gets more and more obvious to me that he was modelled after Clark Gable. Which is not a bad thing, but considering this fandom's relationship to Gone With The Wind, all kinds of hilarious.

I could not resist.

It's only a model.

The routines and chorus scenes were just a couple of the things Doom and Iron Man agreed never to talk about once they returned to their own time. Even though their footwork was impeccable.

(This also adds a completely new dimension to the "impersonate Clark Gable" line... Tony Stark, I'm looking at you.)

"Tony...what kind of sandwich is that?"

"Ham and jam and spam. A lot of it. Why do you ask, Steve?"

"...oh, no reason."

The aftermath of the Avengers' Monty Python marathon left Steve feeling very torn. On one hand, Tony was actually eating well the day after. On the other, he couldn't shake the feeling that ham, jam and spam sandwiches were just a new low when it came to Tony's bad habits.

I have the image in my head now of a very reluctant Tony being dragged by the scruff of his neck out of a castle. Steve is forging ahead with a determined look.

"I was in the nick of time, Tony, you were in great peril!"
"I don't think I was."
"Look, let me go back in there and face the peril."
"No, it's too perilous."
"Look, I'm an Avenger, I'm supposed to face as much peril as I can!"
"No, we've got to find the Cosmic Cube. Come on!"
"Well, let me have just a little bit of peril?"
"No, it's too perilous."
"Spoilsport."

LOL! I want an entire Monty Python/Avengers mashup to happen now.

Steve just doesn't want Tony to get into any peril without Steve right behind. *Cough*

Also, a Monty Python/Avengers mashup... INTERNET, MAKE IT HAPPEN.

*Looks around expectantly*

Yes.

And in a perfect world, we would get a Langridge/Samnee comic with Cap, Thor and Iron Man teaming up with Arthur against Doom, Loki, Morgana Le Fey and their army of undead warriors and dragons (or undead dragons?).

Alas, the world is not perfect and I have to make do with these two storylines being separate.
