Beta Post
It's almost 2012, so it's time for a new beta list. Before signing up as a beta or contacting someone on this list to do beta work for your fic, you might want to read the
cap_ironman discussion post on The Role of the Beta, and
tsukinofaerii's post On Writing Fanfic: Love Your Beta. There are a lot of ways to use a beta, and reading these might help you pinpoint what kinds of services you want to offer as a beta, or what you are looking for in a beta as an author.
So you still would like to be a beta? Comment here with the following:
1. What universes you are comfortable beta-reading. List all that you are willing to do. Do not say 'any except for Ultimates' or 'any except for MA:A', because someone will come to you with a manga-verse fic and then what will you do? Check out this post for a list of universes.
2. A sentence or two describing your beta style. Do you focus on grammar? Are you better with plot wrangling? Look at the old beta post for an idea of what to say. Mention any themes or plots you will not beta.
3. List any special areas of expertise or knowledge that might be useful to a fic writer. If you are fluent in languages besides English, if you are an expert in computer science, if you have experience with first responders - these are things you might list.
4. If you would rather an author not contact you via PM, then list your preferred contact method here. Otherwise, leave this blank.
I will organize the list as people sign up. I will also keep the list updated, so if any of the information you give changes, simply comment again. And authors, please remember that no one on this list is obligated to beta your fic. Just remember our biggest rule: be excellent to each other.

For canon & characterizations I'm only truly comfortable in movie verse, though I can fake 616 if I need to.
My beta style is thorough. I look at style (word overusage, cliches, overwrought prose, flow, transitions, those mysterious missing conjunctions) and voice (consistency, ICness, POV) in depth. I also try to keep an eye out for plot holes and contradictions and LOL!Science/Logic. I prefer shorter (<10K) one-shots. I also prefer a more collaborative relationship with the authors I work for (lots of communication back-and-forth, willingness to elaborate on identified issues if necessary).
My specialty is porn. As in there should always be more. (Not at the detriment to the story, of course, but if someone sends me a one-shot PWP and they cheap out on the prons, they will be told ;) ) I can also do technical jargon and have a deep and abiding love for all things action and explosions. I speak French as a second language.
My kryptonite is consent issues. Please, please, please do NOT send me your Steve/Tony non-con, dub-con epic as a first meeting. I can, and have, beta'd these things before, but only for people that I've worked with and trust.

I check for glaring errors in spelling and grammar, but am more concerned with style, characterization and story flow. I'm pretty good at spotting POV shifts, plot holes, and anatomical impossibilities in sex scenes. I'm fluent in Russian.
Best way to contact me is by e-mail at marinarusalka at gmail dot com.

I'm good with spelling/grammar, but mostly I focus on characterization, plot and pacing. I speak French (it's actually my first language), and I'm a computer engineer, if that's any help ^^
You can contact me by PM or by email here: dina16ma at yahoo dot fr

I check spelling and grammar, and can also work with plots and characterisations.
You may notice that I will by default use British English (I'm Australian), but it's not too hard for me to use American English as well. If English is not your first language, please specify which you'd prefer.
I have a year and six months classes in Information Technology, and now have switched to Medical Science. I have completed enough classes to have the basics of a Bachelor of Science degree (almost!)
The best ways to contact me are: hannasmusic at hotmail dot com, mytanasilvers at gmail dot com and private message.
Also, I am quite happy to chat through Windows Live or GChat, but there are time differences to consider.

I'm most comfortable with movieverse, 616, and MA:A, but I could probably fake Ultimates if I needed to.
My beta style is grammar and characterization intensive--Everyone's got their own writing style, and I appreciate that, but my pet peeves as a reader are bad grammar and bad characterization, since they're what throw me out of a story fastest.
Specialty is just about everything, except MAYBE crossover fic (and even then it depends on the crossover). As for special skills...my majors in college are Middle Eastern Studies and Philosophy so I guess I can do either of those? I'm moderately conversational in Arabic, if that helps at all (See: Movieverse haha)
Other nonsense: Literally the ONLY thing I ask my writers to do is a quick once-over before they send me things. If something's GRATUITOUS with bad grammar (inconsistent verb tenses, for example), I'll just send it back. But other than that I'm easy.
Contact here via pm or email at iloveseacows422@aol.com...I'm also pretty compulsive about text messaging/iChat, but that would come later.

however I'm a native French speaker and I have a degree in linguistics. So if anyone need a hand, give me a call via pm.

I'm very picky about spelling and grammar (though as a Brit, I don't always manage good American English) and physical probabilities. I'm happy to brainstorm but my cheerleading is sub-par.
In the past, I've studied physics, astronomy and information science; I'm decent at research and will investigate pretty much anything if you can't find a specialist. I know a lot about knitting and woodwork, some about other fibrecrafts, and a bit about metalwork.
The best way to get in touch with me is email - killedbykindness at hotmail dot com.

2. I enjoy obsessing over grammar, spelling, and the flow of the narrative. I will also cheerfully point out logic fails, cliches, and plot holes. I want fic to be as clear and readable as possible so that the ideas can come across.
3. I am a classically trained artist.
