Favoute fanfiction cliché/trope?

I am as curious as awlays and I was wondering what kind of fanfiction cliché/trope you prefer to read. I guess a cliché or a trope can be a certain situation that is used in more than a couple of fanfictions and that comes directly from situations from the different universes (comics, movies etc.)

For example, I have a special preference for the classic "Steve doesn't know that Tony is Iron Man" and I adore also the "Steve and Tony goes on dates but Tony doesn't know they are dating".

I'm a sucker for "have to pretend to be boyfriends" or "have to get married" fics! Also "Tech/Magic cause transformation/bodyswap/de-aging/genderswap," and travel to alternate realities or time travel.

I also love fics that involve JARVIS and/or Tony's robots as characters.

My favorite is recognition/redemption, where misunderstood or actively hiding characters finally have their day. (In other fandoms, I would include Declassification in this category.)

In this fandom, this seems to translate into comics canon "Tony is Iron Man!" revelation fics. (I'd also count many of the Civil War fix-it fics, all things considered.)

I tend to favour 'everyone but them knows they're in love and dating'. I love any sort of AU. Especially ones that have Steve/teen (young) Tony.

i also love the classic "Steve doesn't know that Tony is Iron Man", and same goes for "Tony doesn't know that Steve is Captain America" although that seems to be rarer.. in fact, i LOVE "identity porn" -- i can't imagine why i've never come across that lovely tag before reading Valtyr's A Face To Meet The Faces That You Meet (http://archiveofourown.org/works/284084).. which is like the Moebius Strip of identity porn! :D

Good, unique writing that surprises me is almost always my ultra favorite, but.... fav cliches/tropes:

I like Tony's movieverse!robots and/or JARVIS as beings, and anything with extremis-like stuff. Man-with-a-plan!Steve. Any discussion/doing of art (Pepper and Steve both handy for this).

Also horribly weak to quantum mirror/alternate universe travels, genderswapped, turned-into-a-child, and sex-pollen and certain dubcon/noncon situations.

Also probably anything involving kittens, adoption of or transformation into.

As for actual plot tropes, sex pollen/aliens made them do it is always fun.

I also love it when one or both characters love the other, but are too insecure to believe it's reciprocated, and through a series of incidents (and h/c!!) manage to reveal their feelings.

As a couple others said, PRETEND RELATIONSHIPS. Gahhh. Because that can penetrate the obliviousness these two tend to share as well. Also, jealousy can arise. And jfc, I love me some jealous!Steve and jealous!Tony (but it makes me more gleeful if Steve is the jealous one).

I love AUs, but only after I'm less new in a fandom (I've been reading Steve/Tony on and off for years, so I still feel 'new' about reading them). But I bet I will looooooove the college set ones.

You can't go wrong with classic h/c, especially that old "they're stranded alone in a cabin in the woods" type scenario.

I'm also very fond of stories where Steve tries to take care of an oblivious Tony. For some reason the image of Steve patiently bringing coffee/food to Tony just melts my cold black heart. :-)

I totally forgot to mention fics in which Captain America lures Ironman away from Super Villainy with the power of love...and his really hot ass.

It kinda makes me yearn for someone to write a really indulgent fic where Tony will fund all the Avengers stuff and Ironman and all that stuff in exchange for marrying Steve.

Dear god, I'll read anything with ANGST and Tony!feels and Steve!feels and ALL THE FEELS. *sobs* Our poor, sad boys. Of course, they are saved/soothed by the POWER OF LOVE, and at least a semi-happy ending happens, and sometimes that is all I need to survive a crazy week or whatever. (Seriously, the reason I love this pairing so much is that both of them are so screwed up and yet they pull each other through all the bad crap.)

Then again, I'll read almost anything if it's well-written and plausible. I draw the line at some kinks but that's just because I have the sensibilities of an old Victorian lady.

Oh gosh certain cliches/tropes are like chocolate covered french fries to me. Every fandom has them or needs them but here's my favorite guilty pleasure list

HP AUs come on, what fandom doesn't have this? And if they don't they need it. I've already seen the graphics on tumblr though I fully believe Steve is a Hufflepuff
Nanny AUs, just the idea of Steve coming in to play Nanny because for reasons Tony's adopted wee!Peter fills me with glee
College AUs, typically I like high school AUs but I think college AUs fit more with the Avengers ages, Young Avengers I'd place in a high school AU, Avengers, totally college.
Friendship fics, not really a trope so much as a genre but I really love fics that focus on the group dynamic of the Avengers as a team but doing silly things when they're not saving the world.
Fairy Tale AUs, I love fairy tales, especially the originals so they're a huge weakness of mine.
Barista AU I actually read this really good fic of Steve owning a coffee house and Tony fell in love with his coffee and then with him. It was adorable.
Werewolf AUs they're fun and fascinating
Pretend Boyfriends trope is always a lot of fun too and I love it when it can be done within canon

I love fics like that too! XD Resurrection-verse is one of my favourites for angsting, hurt and misunderstood Tony because it just...It never gets 100% better and that just gets me right in the heart! Also Since Steve is my favourite so I love fics that explore his feelings about wow, I'm suddenly in a world I don't know this is scary and I'm sad because I'm the kind of person who likes to see my favourite suffer or something??
