Context is for the weak! And it's not like it actually makes Obadiah Stane staring into your soul in slow motion more or less magical.

Nope; I don't actively look for fic for that cartoon. Possibly because it's sort of an AU fic in and of itself and it does a pretty good job of fleshing out the characters on its own. :3

That was STANE? WHEN DID HE BECOME NEO?

Strictly speaking it's not Stane, but a person disguised as Stane. XD Still, this is what it'd look like if Stane did become Neo. And CG-animated.

Speaking of which, I've seen a bazillion Inception AUs, but no Matrix ones? HMM. Why is that, I wonder. We should have ALL THE AUS. *Fistshake*

Fair enough. I suppose he'll always be Jeff Bridges to me

I'd write it myself, except I only saw the one Matrix movie, and it hurt my brain. Inception also hurt my brain, but I saw it more recently

Jeff Bridges is also acceptable. Not that Obadiah Stane is a character I have a lot of emotional investment in.

... Is now when I confess I haven't actually watched either of them? I just know the concepts of the stories and am a sucker for AU fics. XD Particularly science fictiony stuff.

There is nothing wrong with that. I'm totally good with reading AUs set in universes I don't know. That's how I learn about them

Pop culture by osmosis. A truly fascinating fandom phenomenon.

[identity profile] ikira.livejournal.com 2012-05-18 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
I'm a prime example. Most of the fandoms I'm a part of, I haven't even seen or read the source material

I sort of wish I could manage that, but I have an obsessive personality; plus I love meta, so half the fun of immersing myself in fandom is analysing the characters and story developments. Seeing as I seem to have an uncanny ability to get involved in fandoms with THE WIDEST RANGE OF SOURCE MATERIAL EVAR, including comics, that's not really a good thing (... I really, really don't want to know how much money I've spent on classic Doctor Who DVDs and audio plays the last couple of months only).

And I love reading your analysis of the characters and meta and all that good stuff, because it gives me ideas, and perspective, while I can still stay sort of objective. (plus I find it's a lot easier to avoid fandom wank if you're not too deeply immersed. I hate confrontation)
