Cap_Ironman Weekly News, Week Ending 27 May 2012

Hello and welcome to the weekly [livejournal.com profile] cap_ironman/[community profile] cap_ironman newsletter.

In comm news, you still have a few days left to sign up for the Captain America/Iron Man Big Bang. We have a tonne of people already, but more are always welcome. Check out [livejournal.com profile] c_im_bigbang for rules, sign ups, and a beta/cheerleader sign up post. In the next week we'll be hosting a comment fest on the Dreamwidth comm and another Rec Week on LJ. Watch this space for more on that.

A couple of housekeeping notes:
1) everyone who's posted a fanwork should have a user tag that follows the format x: username (e.g. mine is x: muccamukk). Team Mod has tried to add them as new users post, but if we've missed you, please drop us a note with a link to your post, and we'll set you up.
2) Please include an indication as to what universe your writing in somewhere in your header or at least in your tags. Even if you're writing an AU, you have to be basing it on one version of canon or another. (e.g. "Ults and Movie," "616 AU," or "MA:A"). The Universe: Other Canon tag is for other AUs that exist in canon but aren't big enough to have their own tag (such as Marvel 1602). It is not for your own AUs.

Now that the Avengers is out and making a bazillion dollars a week (though finally knocked out of the top spot by MiB3), there're a couple interesting articles out about production and how it was all put together. Do check out this interview with head storyboard artist Federico D’Alessandro for his thoughts on Thor, Cap Avengers and Iron Man 3 (spoilers for everything but the last), and this interview with Avengers production designer James Chinlund (some spoilers for Avengers there too)

There's also a fair bit of speculation regarding who will be in Iron Man 3 ( scheduled to come out next year). So far it seems like IM3 has a pretty good rogues gallery lined up, at least according to this article (which if it's true, has some character SPOILERS). Jon Favreau will also be back, but only as Happy Hogan; the show still belongs to director Shane Black.

For the gaming types among us, there's some screen shots out for the new Marvel Universe MMO. I could spot Iron Man, and a couple of different skins for Steve.

Meanwhile, back in the safe, sane and ordinary world of comics, I thought you'd get a kick out of this article about how stuntman Evel Knievel influenced Captain America comics in the '80s. Did anyone get to Kapow!? If you didn't, apparently things were said about where AvX is going, and comments about Coulson in comics and movies. Finally, if sequential art isn't really your bag, but you still want to catch up on the big events of years past, you may want to check out this preview of the novelization of Marvel's Civil War, though I still think I like Chis Simms' summary best (Spoilers for CW, obviously).

Finally, if you're a new or recent member, hello and welcome! Our rules are here, and in the profile; this includes our warnings policy, so please read. If you're interested in the ship, you may want to read the Ship Manifesto, and consult the list of Slashy Moments (Now at one hundred and eighty moments). If you're planning to write for the comm, there are some tips on writing the pairing here, and the Avengers in general here; if you're having trouble finding a beta, or would like to offer your services as a beta, our beta list is here. If you're looking for the comm archive, it's Tales of Suspense, and it's automated - you can create an account and upload your fic. And feel free to post on-topic or off-topic stuff in the comments to this post! Just keep it reasonably safe for work, please.

What, a novel about the Civil War story arc? I am here for this.

[identity profile] lil-shepherd.livejournal.com 2012-05-29 07:07 am (UTC)(link)
Of course he is! He was in the movie and we don't want to bother potential readers with a little thing like canon do we?

*sighs*

And to think I haven't attempted comics-based fic because I'm scared of making that sort of error.

Old habits die hard. In the TV fandoms I've written in in the past I've always done episode transcribing and analysis and all sorts of other research before I laid pen to paper or fingers to keyboards.

Right now I am comfortable enough with the movieverse and comfortable enough with chunks of 616 to extract bits from it, but I've also read far too much fanfic to be confident that I'll always know where canon begins and fanon ends.

I daresay that once I've got what I want to say about the movies out of my system I'll venture into 616...

What?

That is bad form, bad form indeed. They had what - at least four years of distance from the event and that's the best they can do? For $24.90 that's not good enough.

Sad, I was looking forward to it too. Hold up, Hawkeye comes back after Cap dies right? That's when Tony tries to seduce him into carrying Cap's shield.

*sniffle*

I was here for this. The novel could have - well, smoothed some hurt feelings, maybe.

Oh well. I was looking for inspiration for my AU fic.

Oh, that Civil War cartoon is hilarious and a lot of the comments to it are love too.

Really, The Mandarin? I thought they were ixnay'ing the Mandarin because they were courting investments from that side of the world.

To be fair, I think The Mandarin is a pretty complex character, especially when Tony had that run as the Director of Shield - but knowing Hollywood, they'd go all, "Yellow Peril."

Yeesh.
