Rec: Urgh, this is like the number 1 "break your heart" fic I have read in this fandom. Post-Civil War, not a fix-it. Features Death from Sandman. Dead!Steve watching over Tony, but unable to help.
And Steve realizes, as he stares into Tony’s dull eyes, that it won’t be long before Death is back, this time for both of them.

Rec: Steve and Tony's developing relationship, as seen from Phil Coulson's eyes. Hint: he's not that happy about it. This isn't your sweet, adorable fanboy Phil Coulson: his viewpoint is rather dark, covetous and a little creepy (and yet also strangely sympathetic). Like all of ironmerica's fics, the writing is gorgeous and just oozes raw feeling. A very interesting and thought-provoking character piece and subversion of the Tony-and-Steve-get-together-and-everyone-is-happy-for-them trope.

Rec: Tony is fourteen when Stark Industries finds Captain America's frozen body. He's seventeen when he discovers the rather salacious reasons why his father was so intent on finding the man everyone presumed was dead. The problem that follows is that Tony might just understand his father's feelings all too well. Realizing that it's hopeless, he decides not to tell anyone or in any way pursue it... but then his second identity as Iron Man ruins the secret.
THERE IS NO HAPPY ENDING. I thought I should get that out of the way first. That, and the last chapter made me cry for Tony. So. Briliantly written story with boatloads of angst and Tony is just so. The last chapter. My heart shattered.

Rec: Kink Meme Request: Semi mirror!verse fic. Tony gets pulled into another universe where Steve's side won Civil War, Tony died, and Steve took control of the government. By the time they get 616!Tony back, he's slightly broken and convinced that Steve owns him and can't make any decision without Steve. And gained the 'distressing' habit of offering his body to Steve and waking him up with blow jobs.
Warnings for this fic include: Graphic Depictions of Violence, Rape/Non-Con, Psychological Torture, Torture and Major Character Death. The way Steve reacts to broken!Tony is heartbreaking, and the little insights we get into Tony's psyche is just heartbreaking. Yeah, my vocabularly, not at its most spectacular right now. The upside from all this angst is that there is a hopeful feel to the ending.

Rec: Steve is pulled into an alternate universe that could have been plucked from his nightmares. All he wants to do is get home alive. Tony may have other ideas. The warnings on this are accurate - it is creepy and disturbing on several levels. And spoiler-y if you don't know how Civil War ends. But the atmosphere is amazing! Tony is a vampire in the AU. He is not the more-sexy-than-scary type of vampire that's common in modern horror/romance. Every single detail about Tony in this verse empathizes that he is other and dangerous and not human. Steve is drawn to him anyway, despite his efforts to resist, and things do not go well for Steve after he gives in.

Rec: This is how they piece it together and make it work. While this fic does not contain gut-wrenchingly, openly sobbing level of angst, it does such a lovely job retaining this subtle, quiet, almost understated level of sadness throughout its entirety while exploring Tony Stark's character.
