Return of the Rec Week: Saturday, Day of Adventure!
Saturday may be mostly over (sorry!) but there's plenty of time to share tales of action, adventure, and villain-of-the-week!

Rec: Summary: Some days, the fight kicks your ass - but that doesn't meant you give up on it. They fought as hard as they could, just hoping it would be enough.
OR: Clint, Natasha, and Tony are surrounded by enemy forces with reinforcements a day late and a dollar short.
VERY gripping storytelling! POV switches back and forth between Clint, Nat, & Tony fighting for their lives and Steve, Thor, and Bruce tracking them & trying to catch up and rescue them.

Rec: Tony takes up an offer that has tragic effects, and Steve is forced to handle the outcome. But Tony's business isn't done yet, and so Steve finds himself struggling with vampire politics and his own sexuality. Well, it's 60k of delicious tsukinofaerii AU, which ought to be reason enough to read it right there. Tony is recruited by vampires, but finds that once he becomes a vampire, he really doesn't want to join up with them. They aren't taking no for an answer, and Tony calls for backup in the form of Steve. The vampires in this verse are really well fleshed out, with some interesting quirks. The main antagonist, a female vampire based on Elizabeth Bathory, is a complete badass and sympathetic despite being quite terrifying. The fight scenes are awesome. Pepper and Happy participate in a Avengers/vampire melee and are pretty badass themselves. Tony makes anti-vampire weapons, including a cowboy hat with a garrote.

Universe: 616; it's a crossover with the game Echo Bazaar, but lack of knowledge of that doesn't impede your enjoyment of the story (at least it didn't for me).
Rec: Manhattan has been 'lowered' (it's more complicated than that) to another dimension peopled by horrors and administrated by devils. The Avengers come into possession of what might be the key to restoring it to its proper place, but obviously nothing is that easy. It's a rich, atmospheric story, with gorgeous details, gorgeous character work and one of the best climactic battle scenes I've read in a while. Definite must-read.

Summary: The first time Tony met Captain America, he was riding a dinosaur. After that, things got weird.
This is a really fun (and strangely poignant) little telling of how Iron Man and Cap might've met in MA. They fight bad guys and bond and make out and it's all very lovely. The plot was well-designed and I didn't see what was coming until it punched me in the stomach even though I should have.

PRIVATEER AU PRIVATEER AU. That should really be enough to make you go read this (and her other historical AUs) but this was also just fun and well-researched and kind of sweet and sad. Steve's internal turmoil about duty and morals made me want to hug him.

Summary: Tony goes to see Wanda, and suddenly Steve is alive and there are Skrulls! Or maybe Tony is just going crazy. Nothing happens in this fic, until the very end. Seriously. There's a lot of talking, mostly at inopportune moments, Tony's views on the acceptable gifts to give people are slightly different from everyone else's and he spends more time than would seem necessary being (half-)naked. What else is new?
This is one of my favorite fics in the fandom just in general. I think dorcas_gustine is amazingly talented. This is a Civil War fix-it fic where Tony goes back in time before Steve dies and they have to fix everything even though they're both full to the brim with issues and still at each others' throats. Until they're not. This fic just punches me in all my emotions every single time. It's long and intricate and, if you're into it, the sex is hot.

UGH, CAN I JUST REC EVERY IRON MAN NOIR FIC EVER? NO? OKAY, LET'S START HERE. This fic is tightly-plotted and has really great interaction between these two. It's all so wistful that the happy ending was exactly what I needed. I loved how they loved each other dearly, but they still had their problems--and both attempted to be professional about it.

Because the gut punching bit in "Extinction"? Totally did not see it coming either. and it still hurts re-reading it when I know it's coming And there really needs to be more Iron Man Noir fic.

Rec: Summary: Anthony Stark, Lord of the city of Mainhett, undertakes an expedition to recover the lost shield of a legendary paladin.
Historical AU! Steve as a paladin is just so fitting, IMO. There's also lots of rubbing each other the wrong way (even though there are moments between them *does not want to spoil*) and then the "growing onto each other" phase before the plot's climax that finally brings the boys together.

Dragon AU! I have a thing for angsty Tony (possibly the largest reason for me being in this fandom) and his self-worth issues are... very present in this scenario, and I also love seeing him secretly worry for his friends. Plus the fact that Tony is the heir to the dragons and Steve is a more than decent fighter against dragons... there's definitely very interesting tension abound as they run around the world trying to uncomplicate everything. Especially since Steve doesn't know Tony's identity at first. Lastly, it's by tsukinofaerii. That should be reason enough. ~.^
