So, I came across a neat trivia post reblogged on someone's tumbler, today. Canon or Fanfic? by patheticfangirl has a list of Tony and Steve statements and asks you if it is fanfic or canon. People here should give themselves a pat on the back. You've educated me well. I only missed 3, only one of which was actually fanfic instead of canon(I guessed wrong on that one). Since, if you go to the above link the answers are not under a cut, I'm copying them here with a spoiler cut.

Because I have yet to come across a werewolf story in the Avengers fandom. And I need it like BURNING for reasons ok?

It would definitely be interesting to come up with the fanfic the fanfic ones are based on. I recognized several off the bat. I'm sure though there are probably multiple ones for some of them like number 10. ;P

Gosh I love this fandom.

Got them all right, well, wasn't sure if Tony had slept with Doom or not, but figured I'd have heard of it if he had.

Technically Steve took up knitting that time he and Bucky were cross dressing. I know the fic you mean though, and enjoyed it.

Hmm. I was under the impression that Steve only pretended to be knitting while he and Bucky were crossdressing.

ha I remembered him having knitting in this panel from when it was linked before. Thus I got it wrong. Afterwards I figured it meant that Steve Rogers taking up knitting outside of a disguise or cover.

It's certainly not drawn very well, but he does have quite a quantity of fabric on the go, and men did know how to knit in that era.

I hesitated at the Dr. Doom one, but figured that of all people Tony would sleep with in canon, Doom had to be at least second-tier. It wouldn't surprise me if Tony had tried the baseball thing in canon, though. Not as often as they've re-done Steve's origin. Sadly number 10 was a gimme.

Well, I have say that 8) and 9) bothered me because I know there is fic for both but that Marvel probably has turned most of its characters into werewolves or vampires at one time or another (there are only so many ideas you can (re)use in 50 years worth of comics.) So those two were wild guesses, otherwise ... pretty much got it.

I've not read Marvel comics, but they sound pretty cracky. All the ones I thought could only be fanfic, were actually canon. While all the ones I thought sounded 'reasonable' were fanfic. So, are Marvel fanfic writers merely trying to make sense of the crack? Or because of it?
