First off as the author states in their notes knowledge of A Time Traveller's Wife isn't necessary to enjoy this fic. Because of Time Travel Steve and Tony's first meeting is at different time periods in their own lives. The author uses the non-linear narrative very effectively. Plus, you get pre-serum Steve! :)

Sentinel/Guide Trope
In a world where Sentinels, people with five heightened senses, bond mentally and spiritually with Guides, people gifted with empathetic powers, Tony Stark has spent thirty-three years overwhelmed by the emotions of those around him and running from his own. Sentinel Steve Rogers wakes up sixty years out of his own time and struggles to deal with the massive amount of new sensory input while trying to find his footing in a New York very different from the one he knew. When they finally find each other, how will their bond change them?
This has many of the elements that I enjoy about this trope. Guides as empaths, spirit animals, and Sentinels being all protective. Steve and Tony meet for the first time and of course, it being them, it happens in the middle of a battle. This is another feel good about love fic that I come back to and reread.

Bonding doesn't have to change anything. Tony Stark doesn't adhere to those rules anymore. (The terrible truth, of course, is that he can't, really, being the broken, miserable thing that he is.)

The world building in this is fantastic. It is scattered through out the story and I find it fascinating. Also, a Soulbond doesn't automatically solve everything in a relationship. In fact, I think because they get an idea on what the other is feeling, they have to work even harder to make their relationship work. This is definitely a slow build, but even though this is a WIP, it leaves off with Steve and Tony happily together and there isn't a cliffhanger. So, I have no problem reccing it even though it isn't finished.

Soulmates are a rare and cherished thing, a simple touch of hands bringing love that lasts forever. By all the rules of romance, they're meant to wait for each other and to trust in the vagaries of fate to bring them together.
Tony's never been good at waiting, and when he has science on his side, who needs fate?
IM:AA is a tv series about Tony becoming Iron Man in his teens. So Pepper, and Tony are teens in this. One of the things I really like about this is Tony isn't passively waiting for his Soulmate. Plus it makes me smile.

This is a first-time story in which Steve and Tony's first time having sex occurs after Tony has already had his hand up Steve's ass. Twice. For entirely non-sexual reasons. I can't think of anything else I've read that's quite like this. It's just so... sweet and gentle and kind of hurt/comfort-y and really all about trust, and that's what I find appealing about it.

I will probably not be the only one reccing this, but that's okay, because it's awesome. This is an AU where WWII goes differently and Steve ends up agreeing to be frozen and unthawed from cryo whenever his country needs him. They awaken him so he can go rescue Tony from Afghanistan. It's a really interesting setup and the Steve/Tony dynamic is wonderful. I really enjoyed reading a younger Tony's interactions with Steve during his earlier times awake.

This is an AU in which Steve and Tony's first meeting is a lot more like 616. There's no identity porn, but Tony's at Steve's side when he wakes up from the ice, and he's the first person to talk to him, and they are a whole lot less antagonistic than in MCU canon, and the whole thing is really, really sweet. Recommended especially to 616 fans who wish the MCU had done this. Pre-slash, so no one actually gets together, but that doesn't matter; it's still lovely.

Probably everyone in the entire fandom has read this -- but if you haven't, you should read it without delay. This is an MCU story in which Steve and Tony's first meeting is under very, very different circumstances from canon. To say more would be to spoil it, and this is something you should read unspoiled. And then read it again immediately once you've finished it, because you're going to want to.

Phen's writing is always wonderfully lyrical, and this is no exception. For a short fic, this packs a hell of a punch. This is a beautifully-written story of realization and first kisses that basically encapsulates Steve/Tony for me.

An Ults first-time fic that is one of the sweetest first-times I've ever read, and definitely the sweetest Ults fic I've ever read. If you're staring at that sentence and wondering how Ults can be sweet, you owe it to yourself to read this. Sweetest Ults Steve ever. And Ults Tony is of course a charmer, who definitely shows Steve a good time.

A pre-slash fic with a very thoughtful and cool canon MCU alternate history AU entailing an extended Cold War where Steve being in ice is more of a "Steve is put into cryo and woken up periodically whenever he's needed" This time, of course, entails rescuing a missing Tony Stark. The strength of the world-building, the intrigue, and the plausibly altered characterizations of Tony and Steve (the psychological ramifications of being put into imperfect cryo were particularly interesting!) made this one of the more memorable AUs I've read.

Noir-verse with pre-serum Steve as Tony's chronicler! As if that isn't enough to pique your interest...surprise, it's a Sentinel/Guide AU! It's a wonderful action/adventure fic, to boot, and has a great pulpy vibe.

Roman 616 AU where Steve is a centaur, Tony is a prince of a conquered nation, and now they're both gladiators. One of my absolute favorite parts of AUs is the ability to construct a complete romantic arc - the first meeting, the falling in love, getting together, and (maybe) a happily ever after. This fic definitely hits all the romantic elements I love. About the fic proper, my favorite part has to be Steve! Being a centaur, he's very much otherworldly - beautiful yet unattainable, gorgeous aesthetically yet almost repulsive romantically (okay, not to Tony, but still!). It's much different than Steve's usual desirable status in his stories. A large part of the relationship development that pings so hard for me in this story is Steve defrosting and becoming more open.

Ults!Roman AU. I think my absolute favorite part of this fic is the massive amounts of repressed Steve that leads to lots of miscommunication and misreading between Tony and Steve. Which, you know, makes perfect sense considering all the mixed signals Steve gives off :D

I just really love this fic, and the podfic of it is great as well. What sticks out for me most in this story is that it really makes me feel like they are living in New York instead of just kinda vaguely existing there, which as someone who has never been to New York is pretty cool.

For someone he'd hero-worshipped for so long, Steve Rogers in the flesh is a pretty big disappointment. For one thing, he keeps looking at Tony as though he reminds him of someone else, and even if he never says anything, Tony's pretty sure it's his father. A lifetime of not measuring up to Howard's expectations is more than enough, thank you very much, and he's certainly not going to make an effort to live up to any of Steve's. Steve's pretty clearly failed to live up to his expectations, in any case, and that's not hypocritical at all.
Time-travel fics, especially well-done ones that weave in the first-meeting-isn't-the-same-for-both-parties trope, just have a special place in my mental library. This one is one of my favorite explorations of that.

Fake dating! Plus cheesy romance novels and an over-affectionate octopus. Of all the fake-dating fics I have read in this fandom, I think this one was the most absurd while still being in-character. Fun all around.
