I requested "pining" and "identity porn" in the last holiday exchange (I'm sure you're shocked), and Shaliara drew me these three pieces, and they're gorgeous. My favorite is the one where Tony has the helmet off, is covering Steve's eyes, and is about to kiss him. The hand-holding there just makes it. Beautiful.

I know it's by valtyr and therefore you've read it already, but it epitomizes the completely fucked-up side of identity porn and is well worth another read. This is an AU where Steve comes back to life after Civil War and only Bucky knows; Steve has to put on the uniform and temporarily take Bucky's place as Captain America. Tony doesn't know. And there's one very important thing Steve doesn't know, either. Glorious.

An AU where Steve was found in the 50s, works for SHIELD, and is assigned as Tony's bodyguard. Tony doesn't know Steve used to be Captain America, and Steve doesn't know Tony is Iron Man. Then Hydra attacks and of course these things do not stay secret for long. Excellent action/adventure and I love the 1952 setting and the part where they remember each other from the war.

A long plotty action/adventure story with the classic team, and one of the few early-canon stories I can think of that is actually set in the 60s, this also contains some excellent identity porn, as Steve is unaware that his boyfriend Tony is also Iron Man prior to being trapped with him on an alien planet. I love the setting so much in this one.

Another fandom classic! Identity porn and sex pollen, what's not to love? I think my favorite thing about this is that Steve absolutely does not give a fuck and flirts continuously with Tony in both his identities, much to Tony's complete and utter bemusement.

Steve and Iron Man get bodyswapped -- and without taking the helmet off, Steve has no idea whose body he's in! I love how this story plays with Steve almost finding out, and whether he wants to; I really like him physically being in the suit and Tony talking him through how to deactivate the weapons. The descriptions are lovely.

A lovely bit of h/c along with Tony being excellently competent out of the armor, with some self-loathing (of course) mixed in. If you're looking for an early-canon romp, don't miss this one.

How can you say no to an early-canon story where Captain America and Iron Man come dressed as each other to a costume party? There's dancing! And supervillains! Okay, so Magic wrote this for me and I am terribly biased, but it contains EVERYTHING THAT I LOVE. For me, identity porn basically exists for the one perfect, pure moment of pining where Steve stares at Tony and wishes Iron Man were here; you get that in this story.

I would class this as identity porn even though the trope involved is really Fake Character Death, because Tony rejoins the Avengers after his own fake death under a secret identity. I would also call this a 616 story because the team involved is basically early New Avengers (I forget every time I read it that this isn't a NA story) and the villains (the U-Foes! Zeke Stane!) are pure 616. This is one of my favorite long stories in the fandom; the dialogue is great, all the characters are excellent, I love the UST (and the way Steve and Tony relate to each other is just perfect; I love how assertive Steve is here), and the tortured angst of carrying on after Tony's "death" and and and... it's all so lovely. Eeee. One of my favorite stories for the pairing.

Reverse identity porn! Steve was one of Tony's Marvels artists before Rebirth, and now Tony's on a mission with Captain America, who might be keeping a few secrets from Tony. It is amazing action/adventure with a lovely emotional arc, and one of my favorite Steve/Tony fics, period.

They don't quite admit falling in love with this other flawed person who just seems to fit so well... but they don't quite deny it.
When Iron Man and Captain America meet, they fight the attraction because HEY, I've GOT a boyfriend... but... I like you, too. Things get incredibly complicated, but it all works out in the end.

Rec: This is one of my absolute favorites! I simply adore the way that this story manages to give us double identity porn--Steve AND Tony--and the way that it fulfills both my love of pre-serum Steve AND my desire to see Captain America kicking super-heroic butt.
