Wednesday: What are You Reading?

In the spirit of new comic book day, Wednesdays are dedicated to discussing anything on your reading list right now! Have you picked up any new releases today? Finally started a novel you've been putting off for way too long? Keeping preoccupied with some fanfiction? Don't hesitate to talk about whatever story's on your mind!

Let us know what you've been reading this past week and what's next on your queue! If you have any spoilers in your comment, you can use the following code to help censor them:

Remember to stay positive and constructive in these discussions! If you're not a fan of the comic, book, fanfic, etc. that someone else is enjoying, there's no need to partake in that particular conversation.

I picked up a couple more serious 'adult' fiction books to balance some of my fantasy. Hit & miss, basically. I've been trying to make my way through 'the association of small bombs' by karan mahajan for... awhile now. It's been such a struggle but I really don't like it. I've only been trying to finish it so I can categorize the amount of my dislike, but I'm not sure I'll be able to hold out. :/
I took a pause and sped through 'the marsh king's daughter' by karen dionne to get away. Very good! I recommend if anyone's into suspense/thriller, though there are some warnings...
Definitely taking recommendations if anyone wants to send some my way!

I had to think long and what the last books were that I didn't have to read for university...

The last I enjoyed were Anthony Doerr's 'All the Light We Cannot See' and Omar El Akkad's 'American War'. And I will always recommend Kirino Natsuo's 'Out' though that's almost twenty years old by now. (Back when 'Out' was first released in Japan, there was basically a wave of panic that the feminists were now going to murder all husbands everywhere lol)

I started 'All the Light We Cannot See' awhile back, but then put it down and never returned to it. I'll have to give it another shot, now that things/life have calmed back down! And thanks so much for the recs! I added them to my list!! Any book that starts a wave of panic from feminism sounds FANTASTIC :D

I found the beginning of All the Light We Cannot See a little hard to get through, but it clicked somewhere in the first third and I started to enjoy it. If you end up liking Out, I recommend taking a look at the author's other works. I'm not sure which of them are available in English (and sadly, the English translations can be a little weak in places), but basically all of them touch upon 'taboo' topics and end up with conservatives clutching their pearls in the background haha.

I'm currently working my way through William Morris' 'News from Nowhere' for one of my last two essays for university. It's certainly interesting as far as utopias go, but while Morris knew how to paint an exciting wallpaper, he didn't exactly create a page-turner with this one...

I enjoyed Secret Empire and Captain America: Steve Rogers this week. Sharon's defiance was really great and it's so chilling to realize that Steve doesn't get why she and others aren't falling in line. My fave was Infamous Iron Man though. And I haven't touched my seriously long Marvel pull list yet.

I haven't caught up with my DC pull list yet, though.

And this week I've been in a Ray Bradbury mood. I've been reading his short stories up and down.
