10 Years of Cap-IronMan - Party Post

Newer participants may not be aware that the original Cap-IronMan Livejournal community was founded February 19, 2008. Today, we celebrate the 10th Anniversary of our community!

What started 10 years ago as one of the many pairing-specific LJ communities — founded after Elspethdixon and Seanchai had helped bring the Steve/Tony ship to more prominence when they started posting Resurrection, Reconstruction, and Redemption in 2007 — soon grew into an active community, organizing and keeping alive different events and fests that have vastly grown over the years.

Today we want to thank all the different mods and teams, helping hands, and everyone who helped shape the community over the years. Thank you to all the people who have shared their ideas to make new fests and challenges happen, to all fans who have commented and shared recs, and to everyone who helped keep the love going. And of course we want to thank all our creators who contributed to the cap-ironman fests over the last 10 years, and especially to our pinch-hitters and the people who are willing to jump in to make sure everyone is happy in a collaborative event! We couldn't do any of this without you!

This is a celebration of our community and the community is all of you!

Cap-IronMan Anniversary Party

This here is a free-for-all Steve/Tony party post! Feel free to discuss what you love about our shared OTP, share favorite moments, talk about your favorite experiences in this community, share gifs and fanworks, make friends, post links to your own anniversary-related posts — but most of all, share the love!

If you'd like to start a mini-challenge in the comments, we're excited to see it! If you want to, you can also leave fanwork prompts for other people to fill. Anyone who wants to share their fills or wants to create a special thing to share can do so in comments. As you're posting your prompts/fills or mini-challenge in the comments, please have [PROMPT], [FILL], or [MINI-CHALLENGE] in your subject line, followed by a brief description. We have also created a special AO3 collection for your convenience.

  • Rules and guidelines for all other anniversary-related events, can be found here: Cap-IronMan Anniversaries Masterpost
  • Please mark anything that's not safe for work and put it behind a link or spoiler tag.
  • Anonymous commenting is totally, 100% welcome here. However, please remember to be nice to each other and remember to keep it about Steve/Tony, but that is no invitation to bash other ships. (The simple "don't be a jerk" rule applies as always.)
  • You can join the party on Tumblr by tagging related posts with #10yearsofcapim among the first 5 tags of your post. We will queue reblogs for the main community tumblr.
  • People in this fandom are from tons of different time zones and some of us are super busy! Because of this, this party ain't gonna expire at a set point in time. Feel free to jump in whenever you can!

CURRENT MINI-CHALLENGES:
Art/Fic Madness
Round Robin

Need a conversation starter? We're also introducing the ...

Cap-IronMan Ask Meme

After so many years, this community has an abundance of stories to tell — and we want to hear them! Whether you're a regular here or new to the community, have taken part in fests or not, whether you're a creator or lurker, or even if you were active here once and aren't anymore, please consider telling your cap-ironman stories to celebrate the last 10 years.

Any Steve/Tony fan is welcome to answer one or all of these questions — all together or one at a time! You're welcome to make up your own questions or just write a post about the Steve/Tony and Cap-IM community stories you want to share the most. We hope to hear from you!

You can find all of the questions in our Ask Meme Questions Masterlist

Where can you answer?
You can answer in comments to this post, you can create your own post with answers and link it here, or you can create one or more posts on tumblr and tag it with #capimaskmeme to share your answers and stories.

Want to receive and answer open questions from members of the community?
You can leave a special comment on this post with the subject line "ASK ME ANYTHING", so people know you're open to be "interviewed" by others — and of course you can indicate on your own posts you're open to more questions by friends and by readers.

Last but not least, we'd like to kick off the upcoming phase of our community anniversary celebrations with:

Cap-IronMan 'Best of Steve/Tony' Nominations

In the 10 years [community profile] cap_ironman has been active, we've witnessed many moments between Steve and Tony across all of Marvel's canons as they were published and screened — making up and breaking up in Marvel 616, working as friends then fighting as enemies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, separation and reunion in Avengers Assemble, and more.

To celebrate our community's anniversary, and as a prelude to updating our Slashy Moments list, we'd like to invite everyone to tell us their favorite Steve/Tony moment from the past 10 years, then vote on your favorites in each canon!

For more information and how to nominate your favorite Steve/Tony moments of the last decade, check out the Best of Steve/Tony Nominations post!

We hope you have fun in all of our anniversary activities!

The party is also running on Livejournal

Happy birthday [community profile] cap_ironman!

This is a challenge the mods have been trying to fit into our very busy schedule, so for the time being, here's a smaller and more casual version of that challenge! (And if enough people like it, we'll try to make it an "official" exchange in the future!)

Introducing the STEVETONY ART-FOR-FIC & FIC-FOR-ART MADNESS!

THE CHALLENGE
If you're an artist, create a drawing based on an existing fic. If you're a writer, write a fic inspired by an existing drawing.

CHALLENGE PERIOD
So nobody's discouraged from joining in later, let's say that this mini-challenge will run for a month, from February 19 - March 19.

TO PARTICIPATE
I've made a new post over here! You can read up more about it through that link, and come join!

Feel free to ask any questions here or in that post :D Hope to see you there!

[ask meme] lots of answers!

[personal profile] laireshi 2018-02-19 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
To start the party going and encourage people to post answers of their own, here's my VERY LONG POST WITH THE ANSWERS TO MOST OF THE QUESTIONS.

Steve/Tony

  • When did you start shipping Steve/Tony? What appeals to you about Steve and Tony?

  • That was in 2013. I, um, I read Civil War. It was very clearly a break-up gone horrendously wrong. I have a thing for friends-to-enemies. I never stood a chance. Steve and Tony bring out both the best and the absolute worst in each other and I love that so much. When they work together, they save the world; when they fight each other, well, multiverse ends. HOW EXTRA ARE THEY.

  • What's your favorite Steve/Tony universe if you have one?

  • 616, no contest. I mean, I love all the small things--poor 1872 with just one issue! Or X-Factor 273 with a few pages. But 616 holds my heart.

  • What moment in canon got you into Steve/Tony?

  • I already blamed Civil War, but actually--I saw the speech from The Confession before I ever picked up a comic. I remember thinking "you're kidding me, there's no way this is canon, I refuse to believe it". AND YET.

  • Any Steve/Tony headcanons you want to share?

  • I strongly believe all my headcanons are canon, like for example STEVE PINES AFTER TONY THE MOST, POSSIBLY MORE THAN TONY PINES AFTER HIM, AND WHEN TONY HURTS HIM STEVE IS JUST "fuck the world!!! tony hurt me!!!".
For CACW: they def were in a relationship before the movie.

  • If you could see any moment happen between Steve and Tony in canon, what would it be?

  • Just let them actually get married before the next divorce. Or make out on panel for a few pages. That'd be good. We got everything else my heart desires.

Fandom

  • Was Steve/Tony your first fandom/ship that you have been active in?

  • Nope! I was active-ish in Doctor/Master before that (did I mention friends-to-enemies? well). It is the first one for which I JUST KEEP WRITING ALL THE TIME, though. There's so many feels there to work with.
  • How do you participate in fandom (making fanwork, joining events, lurking)?

  • I write sadness, for the most part, I take part in Way Too Many Events *stares at enablers*, and I mod said events.

  • What was your favorite experience in the Steve/Tony fandom?

  • That's a hard one! I've had so many good experiences in our events. Let's go with my first BB just because it was the first event I consciously took part in? Also it remains my longest fic to date with being just over 50k. And I got awesome art by Krusca. (My first event was RBB, technically, but I wrote a pinch hit for it after the event ended.)

  • What's your favorite Steve/Tony-related moment or experience outside of canon?

  • MEETING MY FANDOM FRIENDS IN PERSON, definitely!!! I spent three weeks with Noha in total! I probably am where I am in real life in parts thanks to meeting Shaliara! Magic visited me and it was awesome! I saw CACW for the first time with Wren and it ruined my life forever :P I saw Navaan and Comicsohwhyohwhy for a day, both way too short :P I welcomed New Year with Marmarris (...pretty sure we met before we discovered we're both into stevetony though) and I met other Polish fans on cons and had awesome fun and still talk to them *_*

  • What's one of the first Steve/Tony posts you made, if any?

  • To Sleep, Perchance to Dream, which was also my longest fic at the time, and first RBB ever (pinch hit, like I said before, but ahhhh I'm so glad I did it!).

  • What's one of your favorite Steve/Tony posts that you've made?

  • This one that's about 1k of me rambling about CACW, maybe? THAT MOVIE BROKE MY PREVIOUSLY 616-ONLY SELF, OKAY.

  • How has your involvement in the fandom changed over the past years or months?

  • I came from shyly writing a pinch hit for RBB that I saw needed love after the event to modding RBB and then modding the comm! On the other side of things, I used to write more short fics on tumblr and do prompts, but real life is too busy for that now.

  • If applicable: what’s it like being an international fan in a mostly American/English language fandom?

  • There's a lot of hoping Europe will get a given movie before the US does, because otherwise good luck avoiding spoilers :P And getting comics in English is a pain, if you want actual issues and not just digital versions. Also, TIME ZONES SUCK.
I used to write in English long before I started writing stevetony specifically, though, and read and watch stuff in English long before writing, so that was never an issue for me.

  • What about the Steve/Tony fandom are you most thankful for?

  • All the friends I made that go way beyond fandom.

Community & Fanworks

  • When did you first find the Cap-IronMan community and what got you involved?

  • I found it before I got into the ship--I saw the ship manifesto and then the comm! I think I got involved first because of a comm chat on IRC. I went there while stealthily writing RBB in June. I remember thinking of that and not my calc exam.

  • What Cap-IronMan fest(s) do you look forward to the most?

  • Holiday Exchange is my all-time fave, but I love all of our events!

  • What was one of the first Steve/Tony fanworks you've encountered?

  • So I know I read MCU fics first, but that was before I really was into the ship? Mostly "oh look there's a popular pairing, many fics, let's do that". The one I remember reading--and waiting until I was done with all the CW arc to read--was RRR.

  • Rec the works or posts that remind you of why you love this ship (a fic, a canon moment, or maybe a funny text post).

  • THIS ONE BY FAITE. I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR BROKEN HEARTS AFTER YOU CLICK ON IT.

  • What fic would you recommend if you were trying to get someone into Steve/Tony? And why?

  • RRR, of course! But to go a little less obvious route: This fic by runningondreams is the best New Avengers getting-together story ever, and it's very very real in its portrayal of their relationship, and also THE KISSING SCENES OH MY GOD.

Creating Works

  • What type of fanworks do you create?

  • SAD FICS, with occassional NOT SO SAD FICS or even HAPPY FICS so the return to sadness hurts everyone more.

  • Where can people find your works?

  • I'm here on AO3!. My fic tag on tumblr has lots of drabbles too.

  • When did you start creating fanworks?

  • For Steve/Tony or in general? Because 2013 and as early as I can remember, respectively. (I'm so glad my teen attempts were in Polish and not on the internet, generally, though).

  • What made you start creating works?

  • I seem to be unable NOT to create, so I've no idea how to answer that. THERE ARE FEELS I NEED TO EXPLORE, OKAY.

  • Had you created fanworks in other fandoms before?

  • Yup! Mostly in Doctor Who.

  • Do you also create original stuff?

  • I do, but you can't read it anywhere yet.

  • What inspires you? How do you get inspired?

  • Either I read/watch a Feelsy Canon Moment, or one of my EVIL EVIL friends goes "LAIRE, THINK OF THAT EVIL THING" and what can I do then? I think of the Evil Thing. I write the thing. Rinse, repeat.

  • What was your first Steve/Tony fanwork? Do you still like it?

  • Previously mentioned To Sleep, Perchance to Dream and yes, I do! I'm kinda laughing that my first ever stevetony fic featured a broken, tortured Tony in chains. Do I have a type or what?

  • What is your favorite Steve/Tony fanwork you created and why?

  • I can't choose between my children like that D: Miiiiiiight be Control? I still think the drinking Tony parts are ones of my best writing. But I also really like my last BB, because it was SO SELF INDULGENT TO WRITE IT (Director Stark/Villain Steve!). And Somebody's Darling, because I had all these feels on 1872 backstory and finally channeled them here.

  • What is your most underappreciated Steve/Tony fanwork you created and what are your thoughts on it?

  • Wow, what a loaded question. Mmmm. love will tear us apart, maybe, which is a "only your soulmate can kill you AU" and yes, I killed Tony, I mean Steve did, because of course, and I like it and also gave it my favourite song title. And it has Tony who believes in soulmates even though he knows there's no way of ever knowing, really, except for that REALLY BAD ONE. And I wrote a fic where I fixed both SIM and Old Steve by breaking them further, restart, that didn't seem to be liked. But they were so sad at each other!

  • Quote a favourite excerpt from one of your stories, or embed one of your drawings, videos, edits, etc. What is it that you like about it?

  • Hmm, I decided to go with this:
Tony’s still watching his face, and it should be eerie, the way Steve can see through him—literally—and the way he’s so close that Steve should be able to feel his breath but of course can’t, and oh, oh, Steve would give everything to be able to really touch him.

But they only have this, cold gauntlet under Steve’s chin, and a moment frozen in time as Tony Stark’s digital projection leans in, never letting his eyes stray away from Steve’s—and then Tony stops, moves back, faster than he would be able to in physical body.

Steve’s reflexes are better still: he reaches out and grabs Tony’s hand in his, and it’s almost familiar, the armour under his fingers, but the way he’s holding it isn’t, more than a friendly handshake. Tony stays very still, his hand extended, fingers wrapped in Steve’s, and Steve can’t breathe, overcome with longing.

This, this is new, new and beautiful and scary.

He loosens his grasp, not fully, but enough to send the message. I’m not holding you if you don’t want me to.

But Tony doesn’t back away again.

From Emergency Protocol (my RBB last year, for Caz's AWESOME AWESOME art. It's a more gentle stevetony than I usually write, and it's AI Tony and Steve. I like it because they can never touch, not really, but they have these incredibly intimate moments and decide to go forward together.
    (I really feel like I should've chosen something more angsty, but I couldn't decide :P )

I love all the small things--poor 1872 with just one issue!
I'll never stop laughing at this. I cannot believe no more issues were made! Weird!

For CACW: they def were in a relationship before the movie.
(Did I tell you that "CACW established relationship stevetony" is one of the many things on my to-draw list?)

MEETING MY FANDOM FRIENDS IN PERSON, definitely!!!
Aw I love this!!! I think I ended up in the ship because a lot of my personal friends are into it, but I've only ever met one fandom person IRL *-*

THIS ONE BY FAITE. I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR BROKEN HEARTS AFTER YOU CLICK ON IT.
...coughs and shuffles away...... (but shuffles back b/c I wanna keep commenting)

Either I read/watch a Feelsy Canon Moment, or one of my EVIL EVIL friends goes "LAIRE, THINK OF THAT EVIL THING" and what can I do then? I think of the Evil Thing. I write the thing. Rinse, repeat.
"Laire look at this canon thing but like, imagine it worse." "Yep okay you got it." :P

•What's your favorite Steve/Tony-related moment or experience outside of canon?

Okay, so I decided that for the 10th anniversary I'd love to tell you all the story of a piece of fantastic Steve/Tony art I own.

The setting: last year's C2E2. That's the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo. It's the largest convention I go to, and it's great. Tons of cosplay, good panels, and a variety of guests and vendors.

I'm with Jen and Rachel. Jen is old school Steve/Tony fandom. She only ever wrote a few fic for the pairing, but she beta'd some of the early chapters of RR&R. She's my roommate, and we met through Marvel Comics fandom. When I first met her in person in 2010, she talked my ear off about Arnie Roth and 80's Cap. I knew then that we'd be great friends.

Rachel is a newer friend, but we also met through Marvel, sort of-- I posted a picture of a snow sculpture of Magneto that I'd seen downtown, and she reblogged it with tags that mentioned she lived in the same city. Both she and Jen are Captain America girls. I'm a Tony girl. Almost all of my fandom friends are Cap girls, which sometimes makes me wonder about personality types.

So the three of us are at C2E2. It's Sunday, the last day of the con. I start browsing a couple booths that have original comic page art. Most of the pages that attract my eye are waaaay out of my price range, but it can be cool just to be able to touch (in a protective sleeve of course) the original page for, say, Cap's Kooky Quartet arguing amongst themselves. Or an early kiss between Wanda and Vision.

I consider myself an original comic page art collector, even though prior to that C2E2 I only owned one page: Ms. Marvel (1979) issue 23 page 30. It's an amazing page. Carol rescues her astronaut friend Salia, who has been under mind-control. Sal is frightened of this mysterious Ms. Marvel who has saved her, so Carol takes off her mask. So there's Carol cradling Sal in her arms, and the final text box says something along the lines of, "there's no emotion in these sterile corridors except for love."

If you're thinking to yourself, "Wow, that sounds femslashy and flowery, was it written by Chris Claremont?" Yes, yes it was.

Anyway, since snagging that off eBay several years ago, I like to keep an eye on original art auctions just to see if any pages with notable Steve/Tony content (or Carol/Wanda content) come up, and to get a better feel for pricing.

So the three of us are flipping through art pages when suddenly I find myself looking straight at a moment off the Slashy Moments List: Steve and Tony on the phone, arranging a date. That's the top half of the page. The bottom half features Janet arranging a get-together of female superheroes so she can get some more ladies onto the Avengers. She's also looking forward to showing off her new pantsuit.

Yes, this page is from the eighties. And it rocks.

Best of all, it wasn't that expensive, because none of the characters appear in their superhero costumes on the page, so the images aren't "iconic." Ha! If only the seller knew how iconic that image of Steve and Tony on the phone was to me. I'd used it in a vid mere months earlier. I bought that page in a heartbeat.

THAT IS AMAZING. And I'm so, so happy that you own it and that page has a good home!

question replies

[personal profile] rueckenfigur 2018-02-19 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Hi!

I'm not answering all the questions, but I kind of wrote something for all the different rubrics that the questions were placed in - if you want my thoughts/opinions/replies to anything else, feel free to ASK ME ANYTHING :-)

Steve/Tony

I googled "Civil War fix-it fic" after watching the movie and being so annoyed with the movie ... I'd been watching MCU movies before that, though not from 2008 on, I started a little later than that ... but had never looked for fanfic. And then CACW just had people who like each other behaving so illogically poorly towards each other for such silly reasons ... yeah. Fix-it fic it was. I dove into the deep end and spent about a month doing almost nothing else with my spare time than reading Stony fic, and I haven't looked back since :-)

I've read fic in all the universes, but have only really watched the movies (yet).

I like fic about friends discovering that they're more than friends, maybe, with lots of angst and agonizing and misunderstandings and an eventual happy end.

Fandom

Nope, this is not my first fandom. I spent most of my teen years active in Star Trek fandom (was a teenager when TNG was on the air, so not the youngest chick in the coop, me), mostly reading TOS fanzines and shipping Kirk/Spock. K/S is also a fandom I still read, while some others have come and gone.

I mostly lurk and read a TON of fanfiction, but I've recently started doing some art and have even written a couple of fics. I write best when given a prompt of some sort, so I am REALLY enjoying all the fan events and prompts that the bingo card and the challenges/events give one.

So far I have shied away from opting into writing anything for any of the exchange events, as I am not good enough and don't want to let anyone down with a bad story - so the bingo card and the alphabet challenge etc are much more my speed, where one just writes an optional extra thing that isn't tied to a specific person ... Secret Santa exchanges etc are much too intimidating/too much depends on something one might not be able to pull off there!

I don't have a favorite moment outside of canon yet, but for fandom in general I can say that I am the person I am today because of fandom and of the amazing people I encountered there - and from what I have experienced in STONY fandom so far that is holding very true indeed!

Being an international fan in an American/English language fandom is ... fine? I deal with the English language on a professional basis, so the language itself is not an issue for me - and aside from timezones and staggered movie release dates, it's not really noticeable? Fandom is a very international and openminded place, so ... *shrugs*. Just makes meeting up in person hard.

Community & Fanworks

I found a link to the community somewhere, I don't remember where, and then, on a spur of ... foolish and optimistic madness? ... decided to get a bingo card for round 2 last year. I'd not written anything much at all for a long time before, and never anything in the Marvel universe, but ... there I went, rather fearfully wading in. It's been a joy to be creative again, even if I think one can still totally tell from my fic that I am both not a very good writer and a very out of practice writer.

I don't know which fest is my favourite, as I haven't participated in many yet!

I don't know which was the first fic I read, but I remember one of the first ones being the amazing Straight on Till Morning by Sineala. Given that I have been a Trekkie for such a long time, that was an immediate must-read AU. And what an amazing one it is!

Creating Works

I do some art and I write a little, and it's all on the Archive of Our Own, right here: me on the AO3

I started creating fanworks, well ... I think I wrote one opening scene of a terrible Mary Sue fic when I was 13 or 14, which never went anywhere, and then got into "Dragonriders of Pern" roleplaying on AOL when I was 16 or 17, so I wrote my first fic for that. Never really wrote any Trek or K/S, even though I totally shipped it, as it was too intimidating. I've been doing Yuletide for the last 7 or 8 years, but haven't really written much otherwise. Oh, wait, I totally had a year when I wrote some "Vorkosigan" universe (Lois McMaster Bujold) fic a couple of years back.

In my work life I write academic articles etc, so I guess that might count as original stuff?

I am also TOTALLY up for making more STONY friends, so if anyone's looking for new DW circle members, feel free to add me and I'll return it.

:-)

That's incredibly similar to my experiences too, haha

Okay I am jumping in on the ask meme thing, so lets see how this goes

    Steve/Tony
  • How did you first encounter the Steve/Tony ship?

Before I was active in marvel, I was aware that it was a thing. I mean, Captain America and Ironman? How could it not be! But I really got into it once I started consuming Avengers Fic by the truck load.

  • When did you start shipping Steve/Tony?

Around the time that Avengers came out, just shortly before when I really started getting into Marvel fandom.

  • What's your favorite Steve/Tony universe if you have one?
MCU, since that's what I started in and it's very dear to me. But in my time in this fandom I have grown to love them separate and together in all universes ever.

    Fandom
  • Was Steve/Tony your first fandom/ship that you have been active in?
Yes and no. Before getting onto the Marvel / SteveTony train, I was huge on Inception. But I only even lurked / read. Steve/Tony was the first that I actually interacted with and created for.

  • How do you participate in fandom (making fanwork, joining events, lurking)?

Fanworks, doing events, modding, crying about feelings :D

  • What was your favorite experience in the Steve/Tony fandom?

Meeting so many amazing people, making so many great friends, and having people that I can share the fannish experience with.

  • What's one of the first Steve/Tony posts you made, if any? (A text post on tumblr, fanfic you posted on AO3, art you tweeted, a comment you posted, etc.)

One that I reblogged on tumblr back in 2013 right after I'd read Civil War, that Said "What a nice OTP you have There. It would be a shame if one of them DIED"

  • How has your involvement in the fandom changed over the past years or months?

I went from lurking and reading, to creating, starting with a small TRB fill, to event modding, to now comm modding. It's been a hell of a ride, that's for sure.

  • What fandom things have inspired or impressed you the most?

The sheer amount of amazing creativity that we have here.

    Community & Fanworks

  • When did you first find the Cap-IronMan community and what got you involved?

I kept seeing people on tumblr reblog events posts for big bangs and the like, and so eventually I followed the comm to get the news directly. It took off from there.

  • What Cap-IronMan fest(s) do you look forward to the most?

ALL OF THEM! No, seriously. I love every event we do because they all of great things about them and inspire different aspects of creativity.

    Creating Works
  • What type of fanworks do you create?

Fics. Lots of hurt/comfort, fluff, angst. Always with happy/hopeful endings. Give me all the pain, but let it be okay in the end.

  • Where can people find your works?

    My Steve/Tony works are here!

  • When did you start creating fanworks?

October 2015 according to AO3. As a 'Last Chance' for the TRB.

  • What made you start creating works?

This art here by ssyn3. I saw it, and I wanted to write something for it, and I saw the word limit for TRB and thought... "I can do this." So, ssyn3... thank you. Actually, I should find you and thank you directly.

  • Had you created fanworks in other fandoms before?

Years and years and YEARS ago, baby dap wrote some LOTR stuff. It's been purged from the internet though.

  • Do you also create original stuff?

    No, but I'd like to.

  • What is your process in writing/arting/creating? (Where do you start? Do you tackle things in order? Do you start with a single scene or imagery and create a work around it? Do you need to immerse yourself in canon or other fanworks to get in the mood?)

I rely really heavily on brainstorming and bouncing ideas off of other people. I don't have a lot of faith in my own creativity, and so I lean on other a lot. I try and make solid outlines these days, because it's so much easier when then writers block hits.

  • What was your first Steve/Tony fanwork? Do you still like it?

I swear we had four legs when we started this which is the aforementioned TRB fill. I still like it. It's uncertain, but it's cute.

  • What is your favorite Steve/Tony fanwork you created and why?

For Freedom and the Fear of Forgetting which was last years RBB fill. It's my favourite because I think it shows the progress I've made as a writer. That fic, I set out specifically to write something concise, action oriented, and punchy, and I am very happy with the results. I also had some pretty inspiring art and a great partner to work with.

What is your most underappreciated Steve/Tony fanwork you created and what are your thoughts on it?

Quote a favourite excerpt from one of your stories, or embed one of your drawings, videos, edits, etc. What is it that you like about it?

--And HYDRA took his Steve. That was a blow. They took Steve, and now they had him god only knows where, doing who knows what. Nothing good. Tony’s read the files. He knows what HYDRA is capable of.

His brain supplies him an image of Steve looking at him, cold expression without a hint of recognition. It’s enough to pull a strangled sob from Tony’s throat.

It doesn’t matter that they’ve never talked about how they feel. It doesn’t matter that they constantly toe a line they have yet to cross. They don’t have to. No amount of self-sabotaging doubt can change the fact that somehow, slowly, when he wasn’t looking, Steve became his and he became Steve’s. They fit in a way that shouldn’t make sense, but does. Steve is a constant.

And HYDRA took that away from him.--

It's from the RBB fic that was my favourite thing I wrote, and I like this bit because I feel like I managed to do a decent job of making an emotional impact, and also this kind of sets the tone and motivation for the rest of the fic. Which is an escape!

ALL I COULD THINK WAS "RUDE" WHEN I READ THAT, OH MY GOD.

The sheer amount of amazing creativity that we have here.
So true!!!

I love reading about your fandom and writing journey! So happy we could work together and be in the same fandom ♥

What's your favorite Steve/Tony universe if you have one?
I love talking about and making works for a lot of canons, but Marvel 616 is my favorite! I think by the sheer amount in which I talk about them, Avengers Assemble and Avengers Academy would come after that, though.

What moment in canon got you into Steve/Tony?
Red Zone for sure! I gushed a lot about it on Tumblr.

What are your favorite Steve/Tony tropes?
'Everyone is mad at Tony and Tony is sad about it' is my favorite! So I adore Avengers v4 era fics. Just off the top of my head, I love The Single Biggest Problem With Communication by BlossomsintheMist, Formerly by laireshi, and On Due Reflection by captainshellhead & vibraniumstark.

If you could see any moment happen between Steve and Tony in canon, what would it be?
I feel like they're long overdue for a proper kiss-and-make-up moment in comics canon, so I'd love for a moment of apologies and reflection between them. (In the meantime, there's always fic :D)

What was your favorite experience in the Steve/Tony fandom?
Stony Trumps Hate was amazing and I'm still so, so floored by how great this fandom is. It warms my heart whenever I think about it :')

What fic would you recommend if you were trying to get someone into Steve/Tony? And why?
Love among the Hydrothermal Vents was one of the first fics I've read and is the fic I send to friends who aren't Steve/Tony-shippers — because really, so much of it is Namor being a hilarious jackass and who doesn't love that?

What type of fanworks do you create?
Lots of fanart and comics!

Where can people find your works?
On Tumblr and AO3 for event-related works!

What inspires you? How do you get inspired?
I feel like I bounce a lot between 'canon compliant ideas' and 'extremely indulgent AUs', so I'll get inspired when I'm watching/reading literally anything and put the idea on the backburner until I'm compelled to do something about it. I also looove talking out ideas with people, and that's always inspiring!

What was your first Steve/Tony fanwork? Do you still like it?
This is technically not my first stevetony drawing, but it's my first official foray into the fandom. Umm I guess looking at my first chunk of S/T drawings, though, I was still getting familiar with how I want to draw them, and struggling between my natural inclinations versus "oh but I gotta make them pretty!" I think I've fully leaned into the latter at this point hahaha

What is your favorite Steve/Tony fanwork you created and why?
Ohhh this was a hard question, but I think this comic takes the cake.

Quote a favourite excerpt from one of your stories, or embed one of your drawings, videos, edits, etc. What is it that you like about it?

This one has been on my mind recently! Because extreme sexual tension? (From my 2017 Reverse Bang with [personal profile] navaan ♥)

So, I also posted this on Tumblrbut I'm going to put it here too for party fun!

How did you first encounter the Steve/Tony ship?
I think I was dicking around on Tumblr after seeing CA:CW, and stumbled across the ship, so I looked into it some more and fell in love.

When did you start shipping Steve/Tony? What appeals to you about Steve and Tony?
They are really intense about each other and it’s really fun to explore. And though I mostly write AA, I do like the subtle differences in their dynamics across the multiverse.

What's your favorite Steve/Tony universe if you have one?
Avengers Assemble owns my soul.

What are your favorite Steve/Tony tropes? Can you recommend some of your favorite works containing those tropes?
Um…. ok so, I’ll just list the fics with the trope

Identity Porn: “Sucker Punch” by Sineala, “Metronome” by SuperstringSymphony, “To The End of Love” by Laireshi, and “This Town Ain’t Big Enough (For The Lot of Us) by Bill_Longbow
Mind Control: “Red” by FestiveFerret, and “An Agathokakological Mind” by Renai_Chan”
Mutual Pining: “Rewrite The Stars” by XtaticPearl
Oblivious Tony: “101 Ways to Kill Steve Rogers, A Guide By Tony Stark” by SuperstringSymphony

Do you associate any songs or playlists with Steve/Tony? If so, which one(s) and why?
I shouldn’t listen to my SteveTony playlist on shuffle because “Bosco” by Placebo always comes out of nowhere and hits me with 616 feels.

Was Steve/Tony your first fandom/ship that you have been active in?
Pretty much, yeah.

How do you participate in fandom (making fanwork, joining events, lurking)?
I write fic mostly.

What was your favorite experience in the Steve/Tony fandom?
On the first fic I ever wrote, Cazdinal/Landizac left a gigantic comment on it and it was one of the greatest moments in my life.

How has your involvement in the fandom changed over the past years or months?
Community & Fanworks
I write more fic and have started actually talking with people on Tumblr/Discord more than I used to.

When did you first find the Cap-IronMan community and what got you involved?
The first SteveTony thing I ever made was my fic “Useless” for the AA Season 4 Countdown.

What Cap-IronMan fest(s) do you look forward to the most?

Definitely the Tiny Reverse Bang and the Holiday Exchange.

What was one of the first Steve/Tony fanworks you've encountered?
“Childhood is the Kingdom Where Nobody Dies” by MemeoryDragon

What kind of Steve/Tony work would you love to see that hasn’t been created yet?
I love Noir, not that I have actually read it, becasue I think the whole aspect of HYDRA wanting to turn Tony into the next Zemo to be really interesting and I want to see something along those lines in any other verse, basically.

What type of fanworks do you create?
I mostly write drabbles. I have one fic that cracks 3k.

Where can people find your works?
Everything is on AO3 or under the “my writing” tag on my Tumblr.

Had you created fanworks in other fandoms before?
I have some PJO fics from middle school that are never seeing the light of day ever again.

What is your process in writing/arting/creating? (Where do you start? Do you tackle things in order? Do you start with a single scene or imagery and create a work around it? Do you need to immerse yourself in canon or other fanworks to get in the mood?)
I mostly just put a random song on repeat and stare at a blank document until the words come out. Usually I’ll get one scene I really want to write and then go back and write around that.

What inspires you? How do you get inspired?
I just have a lot of random ideas that I write down. I usually get them in the middle of soemthing else because I can’t stay focused on anything.

Quote a favourite excerpt from one of your stories, or embed one of your drawings, videos, edits, etc. What is it that you like about it?
“All do respect sir, but we have zombies attending this school. Why should we start respecting the sanctity of death now?” form my Orpheus and Eurydice AvAc fic, “Wait For Me”. That line is peak Steve Sass(TM), I’m so proud of it.

Yessss, that's absolutely one of my favorite things too!

I think the whole aspect of HYDRA wanting to turn Tony into the next Zemo to be really interesting and I want to see something along those lines in any other verse, basically.
Since you write mostly AA, that makes me think about how there are TONS of things I'd love to see in Avengers Assemble! (Planet Doom and things like Tony being Galactus' puppet really touched upon a lot of the plot potential.) And since Zemo (the one from s3) is basically out of commission in AA... hmm....

I didn't answer every question but I did answer a lot. Ask me anything, I love to chat.

Steve/Tony
How did you first encounter the Steve/Tony ship?

Well I figured they were probably shippable as any two male leads usually are. I encountered it by searching for fic to read on AO3.

When did you start shipping Steve/Tony? What appeals to you about Steve and Tony?

After CA:CW.

I have watched all the movies from IM1 and always liked RDJ's Tony, and once Avengers movie came out I thought Tony & Steve friendship would be pretty neat. (Ha!)

I laugh when I remember requesting Steve&Tony friendship back on one of the fandom_stockings exchanges when I didn't read fic in this fandom, just something about their relationship drew me anyway. I didn't ship them at all, I still liked Tony/Pepper and Steve/Peggy, back then. Around the time, CA:TWS came out and I really liked Bucky, so I read a lot of Steve/Bucky but I just don't see them as a romantic pairing. I love them as friends/brothers. I read Stucky because a lot of my friends wrote it, and that was all there was to read after the movie, but I never felt any compulsion to write for this fandom. So after consuming much of what Stucky offered for a about a month. I lost interest and drifted out of fandom again.

Then CA:CW happened and whoa! I came out of that movie feeling like there's an absolute well of unexplored feelings there, and I immediately wanted to write about a hundred fix-its. At that point I first started reading slash for Steve/Tony (and was very confused about that '616' thing XD ) and after about a week of meandering realized that yes, I do in fact ship this. So so bad. This was the movie where I really started to love Steve as a character in his own right, and I just felt like these two characters complement each other so well. So basically Civil War movie got me into the fandom. I still love it so much.

At some point shortly after I learned of the existence of the comics CW storyline, and that was all she wrote. The drama! The angst! I now ship them across the multiverse.

What appeals to me about this pairing is that these two characters are always paying attention to each other, always listening, always responding, reacting to one another, bringing out the best (and worst) in each other, looking at/for each other, needing each other.

What's your favorite Steve/Tony universe if you have one?

MCU! It was my first Marvel fandom and always has a special place in my heart. God, RDJ is amazing, and so is Chris Evans.

616 is a very, very close second. There's just so much there, in the comics. I love how different these two universes are, but that I can really love and enjoy Steve/Tony in each of them so much, for different reasons. (Obviously I like other universes too, eg. AA) I feel like I can never tire of this pairing, because if I do then I can just go to a different universe and enjoy a slight variation on the dynamic.

What moment in canon got you into Steve/Tony?

"So was I."
You just don't get that upset with someone unless you have very strong feelings about them.

For comics, it's almost always there under the surface. I think it's hard to read "The Confession" and what follows and not see it.

Do you associate any songs or playlists with Steve/Tony? If so, which one(s) and why?

Sia - "Unstoppable" is a classic Tony song.
Tyrone Wells - Sink or Swim" always makes me think of Steve.

If you could see any moment happen between Steve and Tony in canon, what would it be?

For MCU: Saving each other's lives again would do it!

Okay, you know what? That Red Zone scenario? I would be all over that. :)

Another good one would be the "Ours" moment from Infinity comics.
"Bad Dream?" "That depends on what kind of a world I'm waking up to." "Ours."

As far as the comics are concerned, I would love to see 616!Tony and 616!Steve have a good reconciliation after Secret Empire and work together again, be partners again. (Not holding my breath though. That's why we have fic!)

Fandom
Was Steve/Tony your first fandom/ship that you have been active in?

Nope, been a while in various fandoms starting from various anime and Highlander.

How do you participate in fandom (making fanwork, joining events, lurking)?

Mostly via writing fic and chatter. I also try to do my bit by reccing as much as I can.

What was your favorite experience in the Steve/Tony fandom?

Probably the way everyone on Discord pitched in to make sure people got fills for fandom_stockings. That was really great and it was nice to see people try to make each other happy.

What's your favorite Steve/Tony-related moment or experience outside of canon? (RDJ and his shippy social media posts, hanging out with fandom friends in person, etc.)

Mostly the way my friends who aren't into this pairing cheerfully accept that I will ramble at them about it. :) Also it was fun to see Marvel comics in generic grocery stores when I was in Spain, that was neat.

What's one of the first Steve/Tony posts you made, if any? (A text post on tumblr, fanfic you posted on AO3, art you tweeted, a comment you posted, etc.)

The post that went around from the clip of Avengers movie where Tony is already planning living spaces for everyone in the Stark Tower.

How has your involvement in the fandom changed over the past years or months?

Well Discord chat is certainly new. It's nice to have somewhere to talk about the ship, because Tumblr isn't really great for communication.

What fandom things have inspired or impressed you the most?

I think that there are really a lot of very talented artists in this fandom. That's definitely something I haven't been exposed to too much in other fandoms (probably because Tumblr makes it easier to see fanart as well)

Community & Fanworks
When did you first find the Cap-IronMan community and what got you involved?

I think probably I googled something, but then I saw muccamukk had made some contributions to the slashy moments list, and I knew who she was from AC fandom, so that made it feel like a place I could come back to. Then Sabrecmc posted a link to discord and I joined that way.

What Cap-IronMan fest(s) do you look forward to the most?

Probably Holiday Exchange, just because it has that holiday spirit.

What was one of the first Steve/Tony fanworks you've encountered?

Presenteism by Veldeia. I read it before I fully shipped the pairing. Great introduction fic!

Rec the works or posts that remind you of why you love this ship (a fic, a canon moment, or maybe a funny text post).

Comics: I can't look at this comic without feeling inspired about Stony stuff: "Bad Dream?" "That depends on what kind of a world I'm waking up to." "Ours."

MCU: I just love how enthusiastic and passionate the actors are about their work. Makes it easy to stay engaged.

Creating Works
What made you start creating works?

As I was learning English, it was difficult for me to talk to my peers, but I could write fluently, so I read and wrote fic as a way of communicating with other people. That's how I met some online friends who I'm in touch with to this day.

What is your process in writing/arting/creating? (Where do you start? Do you tackle things in order? Do you start with a single scene or imagery and create a work around it? Do you need to immerse yourself in canon or other fanworks to get in the mood?)

Usually I get an image in my head of a scene, which plays out like a movie, and I try to create a plot and emotional arc to write a story around that moment, how they got there, etc.

I try to write in order because otherwise I get bored and abandon things.
I get a lot of inspiration from reading books, comics and rewatching canon.

What is your most underappreciated Steve/Tony fanwork you created and what are your thoughts on it?

I feel like I got a lot of appreciation for my stories. I'm surprised/amused sometimes by which ones of them got so much more feedback than others. I wouldn't have called it that way!

Where can people find your works?
On AO3

What is your favorite Steve/Tony fanwork you created and why?
This is really tough. Probably Kaleidoscope Heart because it just makes me happy to imagine them in that universe, where things are fixed and they're in love. I'm also very fond of my current WIP, Unintended, otherwise I wouldn't be writing it!

capneverever: lego cw steve and tony (Default)

[personal profile] capneverever 2018-02-20 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
For the Ask Meme, I didn't answer every question but I'd be open to answering anything.

Steve/Tony

When did you start shipping Steve/Tony? What appeals to you about Steve and Tony?
Around 2011 during the first run of Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes -- escalated after Avengers in 2012. Oh gosh, I'm not sure where to start -- fundamentally they're great partners who bring out each other's strengths in the best ways and they want the same things in nearly the same ways. The dynamics in their relationship is amazing.

What's your favorite Steve/Tony universe if you have one?
Avengers Assemble! Ideal versions of Steve and Tony and just tons of great stories about their "friendship."

What moment in canon got you into Steve/Tony?
It started for me with Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, The Man Who Stole Tomorrow episode -- that episode opening where Steve and Tony are talking in the kitchen. I kind of knew a little bit about Marvel and the character -- I was watching AEMH because I was missing Justice League Unlimited. And the whole Steve/Tony really hit me -- I really wanted to see more and more of them. AEMH didn't scratch my itch.

If you could see any moment happen between Steve and Tony in canon, what would it be?
Right now, I want to see them reunited in the comics. They've been separate for too long and it'd been great to see them interacting as themselves (not in a coma, not Hydrated, etc.) I guess I'd even settle for them to be at each throats as long as they were interacting.

Fandom

Was Steve/Tony your first fandom/ship that you have been active in?
Absolutely my first. I've been in and out of other fandoms but I'm only really inspired to write for Steve/Tony.

How do you participate in fandom (making fanwork, joining events, lurking)?
Fanwork, joining events and lots and lots of lurking!

What fandom things have inspired or impressed you the most?
StonyTrumpsHate was an outstanding and very well run event.

What about the Steve/Tony fandom are you most thankful for?
So. Much. Fic. And. Art. All the tropes, different canons -- if it exists, someone has written or done art for it.

Community & Fanworks

When did you first find the Cap-IronMan community and what got you involved?
The Slashy Moments List -- it was everything to me when I first started getting into Steve/Tony.

What Cap-IronMan fest(s) do you look forward to the most?
Remix! Remix is the best.

Is there a particularly happy memory of a Cap-IronMan fest that you want to share?
When I first participated in the Holiday Exchange I had to write a fic for a well-established writer and that person wrote an extremely kind comment to me. That comment meant a lot to me and encouraged me. Plus set a standard for how to participate in events.

What was one of the first Steve/Tony fanworks you've encountered?
Relativistic Heat Conduction -- that one. Let me tell you -- for someone who had no idea about the currents comics at the time, I had no idea what was going on and it was a wild wild ride. Then I read The Emperor's Fury and was even more confused. Still loved these fics! And hung around to read more.

What kind of Steve/Tony work would you love to see that hasn’t been created yet?
This is a nearly impossible question -- it's like everything had been written. Hmmm, Steve and Tony as librarians?

Creating Works

What type of fanworks do you create?
Fic -- no one needs to see my stick figure art.

Where can people find your works?
All my works can be found here.

When did you start creating fanworks?
Wow, Aug 2013. Feels like a couple of eras ago.

What inspires you? How do you get inspired?
Lots of different things inspire me -- like a mood or thought -- like how would Steve handle this thing? What would Tony say about this? And then if the idea is good, I can form a story around it. I love prompts -- I collected a lot when I first started and sometimes my beta pushes me about a challenge -- and prompts have really helped my writing.

What is your favorite Steve/Tony fanwork you created and why?
One of my favorite fanworks is Long Journey Home -- it's Avengers Assemble Steve and Tony off on multiverse adventures. I had to stretch myself writing to cover some canons I don't usually write (it was the first time I wrote Ults), did a fix-it for Iron Man Armored Adventures, and got to throw a lot of little canon things and headcanons in that I had been thinking about. I love this fic a lot and wish it had gotten more love/found an audience.

Well now I want to read Steve and Tony as librarians. Also I agree about AA being just such a good, pure universe <3

[MINI-CHALLENGE] Round Robins

[personal profile] fluffypanda 2018-02-20 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
I guess I'm a little late to the party, but I thought I'd present a mini-challenge for you guys!

I always wanted to do a Steve/Tony round robin, a story where different authors take turns writing.

To participate: just reply whatever the last person wrote with something of your own. Try to keep with the continuity of the story so far, but feel free to add in twists as you please.

Length can be from one sentence to a few paragraphs.

You can participate as many times as you like, just be sure to let someone else have a turn before you make another addition.

If anyone at any point decides to end the fic, it's their responsibility to post one line or more to start off the next one so people can continue participating.

I'll tentatively set the end date for one week from now February 26th but if it turns out people want to keep going, then I'll extend it.

Here's my bit to start things off:

Winding up, Kershaw let loose a pitch that was well over 90 mph, striking out the Diamondback at the plate to win the game for the Dodgers. The crowd cheered distantly over the TV as the announcers went on to talk about what a big win it was.

None of that mattered because Steve was watching the clock. Seconds ticked by inordinately slowly, somehow stretching well beyond their allotted time. At last the minute hand clicked over to the four. Only twenty-five more minutes to go, give or take.

Re: [MINI-CHALLENGE] Round Robins

[personal profile] sheron 2018-02-20 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
He crossed his arms on his chest, rethought it, uncrossed them again. He'd given up pacing, it made the hospital staff nervous. Only twenty-five more minutes before the visiting hours started.

A nervous, reedy man in a chair next to him muttered, "Wish they let us smoke."

Steve frowned. "It's a hospital."

"Yeah, well, it's my wife in there." He glanced at Steve. "You?"

"My-- My friend."

[Ask meme] + thanks!

[personal profile] adarksweetness 2018-02-20 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
I have signed for SO MANY things this year!! Funny how it doesn't feel like much when you're thinking of ideas and requesting bingo cards, but it quickly escalates to I have how many things due when now??!? At least it's fun stuff :D

I'll say it for the 5th time atleast, but I am so impressed by everyone's hard work and how well Cap-IM is run. Huge thank you to the mods and participants and pinch-hitters for every minute you take out of your day to make events and fanworks happen! Sometimes, I can't believe this community doesn't cost any money <333

Now, on to the ask meme!

Steve/Tony
1. How did you first encounter the Steve/Tony ship?
2012, I think? I saw Avengers 1 and fell mostly into the Thor side of the fandom, but I did read Be No Stranger by Jibrailis (no I probably won't ever shut up about this fic ;p)

2. When did you start shipping Steve/Tony? What appeals to you about Steve and Tony?
Halfway through the CACW trailer. Bc why just watch Tony's Siberia beatdown when you can make the moment more painful by imagining an established relationship?

3. What's your favorite Steve/Tony universe if you have one?
Even though I'm least familiar with it and tackling backlog gives me anxiety, gonna go with 616, just for the history and personal aesthetics (a.k.a I read Night in Madripoor on the steps of the Taj Mahal while waiting out the rain, so that's cool)
Noir is a close second, because half the fun is introducing either baby Steve or secret-identity Cap into it.

4. Any Steve/Tony headcanons you want to share?
The more I read early comics, the more I'm convinced Steve woke up from the ice and imprinted (the thing baby birds do on their mom) on Tony. The specific type of obsession Steve has makes sense in that context.

5. What are your favorite Steve/Tony tropes? Can you recommend some of your favorite works containing those tropes?
When they sass each other because I love them seeing through the mystique of Cap and IM, into the absolute nerds they are. More than Gravity by JentheSweetie

But also! Tony!Cap. When will Find Yourself Some Truth (Carrying the Shield) by Navaan become a real comic??

6. Do you associate any songs or playlists with Steve/Tony? If so, which one(s) and why?
Antebellum by Vienna Teng
"I know the border lines we drew between us
Keep the weapons down,
Keep the wounded safe,
I know our antebellum innocence
Was never meant to see the light of our armistice day."

Why? Please.

Fandom
1. Was Steve/Tony your first fandom/ship that you have been active in?
Nope! I was into Thor/Loki bc I was intimidated by comic stuff, but loved mythology :D

2. How do you participate in fandom (making fanwork, joining events, lurking)?
I make art and write some things! And join more events than I plan.

3. What was your favorite experience in the Steve/Tony fandom?
I enjoyed my first holiday exchange; everyone was nice and I got an amazing gift! I like filling Bingo stuff, and Imzy was great while it lasted!

4. What's one of your favorite Steve/Tony posts that you've made?
Good Morning, Beloved <3
Yeah, I totally have 84 sketches, WIPs and ideas based around this single line.

5. How has your involvement in the fandom changed over the past years or months?
I participate in more things now, try to talk to more fans. Y'all are inspirational!

6. What fandom things have inspired or impressed you the most?
Stony Trumps Hate. The organization, the response, the fills--it was a phenomenal undertaking and for such a good cause. I remember seeing it and thinking, damn I love this fandom :D

lou: Steve and Tony being boyfriends on a blue background (Avengers Steve/Tony blue)

[ask meme] lots of rambling ;)

[personal profile] lou 2018-02-20 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
ohhh, a party post! How great! I want in! lol!

I'm taking a page out of salable_mystic's book and making some statement by categories, in the spirit of the questions they contain. I would LOVE more specific questions if anyone wants to ask!

Steve/Tony

I like pairings with contrast and that don't necessarily start as best friends. Give me that tension, give me that (seemingly) unrequired pining when they get to know one another and get past misconceptions, give me unnecessary suffering until they kiss and I'm a happy, happy fangirl. Lots parings in my fandom history are like that.

For Steve and Tony specifically, I saw IM1 in theater and fell in love with Tony. I started poking around and found RRR. I was hooked. I'm mainly dabbling in MCU or AUs, but I'm starting to branch out in other universes (specifically I totally fell in love with Iron Man Noir!). For reading I enjoy pretty much everything, and for some universes my knowledge was obtained all through fanfic. I find the idea of catching up on some actual comics universes a bit daunting *looking at you, 616!*

Fandom

I am what I call a fandom serial monogamist. I'll read a bit outside of my current fandom, but not much, and write pretty much exclusively for THE ONE that currently has my heart. That works until I find a new shiny one. Then it's not long until I lose interest in my ex and move in with the new flame. I generally never come back, except for an odd fic here and there or to fondly read a couple of stories with my previous OTP when the mood strikes me.

There are fandoms where I read but don't write much, and there are the ones I am involved in. I started in LoTRips, then moved to LOST, and SPN, SGA, H50, and for a bit around the first Avengers movie I was very into Steve/Tony. But then as it happens I moved away to TW, then SpideyTorch, and then for the first time I… came right back into Steve/Tony. I started signing it for events again, and it was like I never left. :)

I love hanging out with fandom people in RL, though sadly it hasn't been with many Stony people. I'm always so happy to chat and squee online too. I'm an international fan in not-so-exotic French-speaking Canada so I'm not so bad with the time zones, but there's always a bit of insecurity for the English, so I tend to cling to betas :)

Community & Fanwork

I had the chance to find the Cap-Ironman community pretty much from the start, summer of 2008 I'd say, but I was just lurking at that time. Judging from AO3, I think my first involvement with the comm was a RBB in 2012, where I wrote a sports AU (boxing!) from fantastic art by Dr, Kara. It wasn't my first fic for them though. I write a LOT of bangs and challenges, that's the only way to get me DO something! I do love the RBB and the Holiday Exchanges a LOT. STH was extraordinary.

Creating Works

I mostly write, with the odd art piece thrown in (but I am very insecure about that part). I started with this whole fanfic thing in 2002, but Steve/Tony in 2012. I HAD written Tony before in a SGA crossover where he got his flirt on with John Sheppard (it was implied Tony/Rhodes though). I write lots of AU and crossovers, it amuses me to put them in different situations. I'm on AO3 for the writing.

My first work for Steve/Tony was pining that ends up in phone sex, alone with you inside my mindand I do still like it. I've been pondering finishing the sequel ever since.

The one I prefer? Good question! It could be the Space AU. Or the boxing AU. But the one that brought be BACK to Steve/Tony is the Hockey AU, No time for losers, because I just couldn't resist the art by Angel. And it's with Olympic hockey! Very appropriate right now! loL!

As for under appreciated, I'd say get it hot, hit it hard that is in a medieval setting. It's my less "kudoed" Steve/Tony fic outside of the Noir fandom. I don't know why it didn't take… Is it too long? Maybe. I decided to cut it in chapters because it's 86K and I thought people would prefer shorter bits of it, and then had to post those 22 chapters in one shot (because of BB). I have a theory that people saw it was complete with very few hits/kudos so they didn't give it a chance… Or maybe it's just not that good or people didn't feel like reading a GoT fusion, even though you don't have to know GoT to get it. But frankly I don't care, I was just happy to finally publish that fic, I'd worked on it on and off for years. And I got to partner with Wren for it, so that's always fun :)

So I'll stop here! Again, if you have any specific questions about anything, I'd be more than happy to answer!

Get it hot is a great fic! And you're right that it's more medieval AU with hints of GoT than a full GoT AU. I, for one, honestly enjoyed the adventure and Tony being Tony--and have I told you enough about my Sam/Bucky feels?? :D

Probably a bit late and I don't think there's anything anyone would really be dying to ask me lol, but I thought I'd do this before I went to sleep because it takes only a second to do. I'm excited to poke around and see if I can do one of these fun events for the anniversary! :)

magicasen: (Steve to Tony)

It'd be nice if we could do cuts in comments...

[personal profile] magicasen 2018-02-20 09:37 am (UTC)(link)
My responses! I'll break them up into a few comments so I don't stretch the screen TOO much!

How did you first encounter the Steve/Tony ship?

This sounds silly, but on tumblr, that one gif edit of CEvans talking about getting married to Iron Man in New York. This one: https://twitter.com/robertdowneyjr/status/649256176530526212?lang=en

When did you start shipping Steve/Tony? What appeals to you about Steve and Tony?

I think I shipped it by osmosis because a lot of people I followed were excited for the Avengers movie, BUT I really became interested after I read the ship manifesto! And followed links to the slashy moments list! And followed links to fic!

I went from fic → canon in this fandom, like, “read fic for three months straight before touching a comic.” I say this because if you feel shy about reading all the comics fics but never reading comics: don't be! As for actual time, I got into it about a month or two before Avengers 2012.

And I can go on forever about what I like, but to sum it up: I like how they're epic! A cornerstone of the universe! Their relationship moves Earths! but ALSO they're very casual with each other and are genuinely friends who are exceedingly fond of each other.

What's your favorite Steve/Tony universe if you have one?

616!!!! And then Avengers Assemble. And then everything else depending on mood (right now it's Ults because it is a REALLY fun universe to write but sometimes I'm just desperately in love with Noir or 1872).

What moment in canon got you into Steve/Tony?

The Confession! Tony suffers so beautifully.

Any Steve/Tony headcanons you want to share?

See, I can't quite distinguish between headcanons and my interpretation of their relationship? But I think that Steve finally accepted he was in love with Tony after Fear Itself in v4 and they were on a team again (his feelings were there but unacknowledged before then). Tony's...been in love forever, I'm sorry!!

Character specific headcanons: Tony knows how to apply makeup and wears it a lot because he has to look good for the crowd. And also, think of how many black eyes and bruises he's had to cover up (especially in identity porn era!). There's no other way around it!

Shippier: Steve's favorite part of Tony is his eyes because that's what he saw from the very beginning. But in general he's always been super attracted to Tony but passed it off as "aesthetic appreciation" because of the artist thing.

What are your favorite Steve/Tony tropes? Can you recommend some of your favorite works containing those tropes?

This is so easy: multiverse. Great for character study AND for porn!

Double Time by Sineala (616/Noir), Still Right Here by navaan (616/MCU, WIP), Stay With Me (Home is Where Your Mind Is) by sara_holmes (MCU + various), Incursion by scrtkpr (616 + various), The Undone Universe by Teyke (MCU + various, gen), Buy You a Mockingbird by jadedoll (616/3490), Loss (The Better Kind Remix) by laireshi (616/3490 THE SAD KIND), Minutes to Midnight by Woad (616/random other verse)

There's a lot more and I love them ALL. *gathers them up*

If you could see any moment happen between Steve and Tony in canon, what would it be?

MCU: Steve and Tony ALMOST making up, and you can tell they'd be there if they had a little more time, but instead they end up dying side-by-side in the final fight.

616: Steve to actually tell Tony how much he means to him (it's always Tony making the dramatic speeches), preferably in a reconciliation issue with lots of pages of tears and talking ;_; Shoot-for-the-moon version: confirmation that they've been banging on-and-off off-panel for the past x amount of years.

HAHAH YOU THOUGHT I WAS DONE

How do you participate in fandom?

I write! I mod events!

What was your favorite experience in the Steve/Tony fandom?

I have very fond memories of #cap-im losing their minds over each new issue of Hickmanvengers after around A29, HAHAH.

What's your favorite Steve/Tony-related moment or experience outside of canon?

Definitely meeting fandom friends in person! I got to meet Laire and Navaan and hang out with them! ♥ Hopefully when I'm back in the States I can meet up with more people!

How has your involvement in fandom changed over the past years or months?

I always was involved with the comm since I really started by joining the #cap-im IRC. I've always been a group chat person, so I moved from IRC to Discord. Ever since joining Twitter, I've become more comfortable just spouting out Steve/Tony HCs and dumb thoughts off the top of my head, while before on Tumblr I was very serious business meta the few times I did write text posts about Steve/Tony!

What fandom things have inspired or impressed you the most?

Stony Trumps Hate! There was so much love and passion behind it, and all for great causes. And in general I'm continually impressed by how many events there are! Thanks, mods!

What about the Steve/Tony fandom are you most thankful for?

I'm thankful for all the great people I've met and the friendships that extend beyond just fandom! I'm also very thankful that this fandom loves to play so much with the multiverse because it's my favorite thing!

PAAAAAARTYYY!!!!

[personal profile] msermesth 2018-02-20 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
So I think I'm kinda late with stuff, but here it goes. (Also congras fandom for being so awesome)

Steve/Tony

How did you first encounter the Steve/Tony ship?
I was lurking in an entirely different fandom in 2011, but I was following someone who was into Loki/Thor, and at somepoint they posted some Steve/Tony fanart. This was before Avengers came out, remember. I think I laughed at how random it was (not knowing the comics), but clearly it just stayed latent deep somewhere in my mind.

When did you start shipping Steve/Tony? What appeals to you about Steve and Tony? I saw CA:CW and left the theater very, very upset. I asked my bff for a hug (which he declined) and just was a general mess. The next day I watched all the Cap movies and the Avengers and noticed the weird energy between Steve and Tony. I resisted the temptation to read fanfic, but eventually gave in. At first, I read every ship, but I always liked the S/T stuff best and eventually just began to search that out.

What's your favorite Steve/Tony universe if you have one? 616. It's the perfect combo of pain and pure friendship.

What moment in canon got you into Steve/Tony? that moment in CA:CW when Tony shows up in Siberia and Steve's face lights up, followed by the moment minutes later where he almost kills Tony.

Do you associate any songs or playlists with Steve/Tony? If so, which one(s) and why? I have whole playlists, but "Little Lion Man" by Mumford and Sons, "Don't Take the Money" by Bleachers, and "The Chain" by Fleetwood Mac

If you could see any moment happen between Steve and Tony in canon, what would it be? Snuggling, followed up by being stuck in a closet.

Fandom
Was Steve/Tony your first fandom/ship that you have been active in?
I've lurked A LOT, but never started to participate till S/T.

How do you participate in fandom (making fanwork, joining events, lurking)? I write right now and join waaaaay too many events.

What was your favorite experience in the Steve/Tony fandom? When the superbowl spot came out and everyone was squeeing over Tony's armor and Steve's beard.

What's one of the first Steve/Tony posts you made, if any? (A text post on tumblr, fanfic you posted on AO3, art you tweeted, a comment you posted, etc.) My first fic (which was published almost 1 year ago) was In Dreams (Everything Makes Sense) . I'm currently going through and fixing all the grammer errors I didn't know about when I wrote it, but I still like it.

How has your involvement in the fandom changed over the past years or months? It's ballooned. TOO MANY THINGS, but in a good way.

What fandom things have inspired or impressed you the most? Everybody's earnestness and just general nice-ness. I don't think I've ever been surrounded by a bigger group of lovely and supportive people.

Community & Fanworks
When did you first find the Cap-IronMan community and what got you involved?
Not entirely sure. I was avodiing getting involved due to expereinces in other fandoms, but when it became clear I wasn't going to stop writing, I decided getting involved was the best choice. I think that was May of last year.

Is there a particularly happy memory of a Cap-IronMan fest that you want to share? hmmmmm.... I feel like this weekend, with all the hype around RBB has been very fun.

What was one of the first Steve/Tony fanworks you've encountered? Pretty sure it was For (or Five) Reasons for Kidnapping Tony Stark.

Rec the works or posts that remind you of why you love this ship (a fic, a canon moment, or maybe a funny text post). 1796 Broadway is one of my favorite fics because it has a lot of angst and conflict, but it's also funny and sweet, which is why I love Steve/Tony in the first place.

What kind of Steve/Tony work would you love to see that hasn’t been created yet? I have lots of wants, but I think in most caes they exist, just less of them. I think the thing I want to see the most but don't get a lot is fic that makes me pissed at either Steve or Tony, but in a way that explores their faults and happens organically. I want to be more angry.

What fic would you recommend if you were trying to get someone into Steve/Tony? And why? Probably a lot of the popular MCU stuff because it's very accessible. America Isn't Chicken if I'm trying to make a case for 616, because it's not very canon-knowledge heavy.

Creating Works
What type of fanworks do you create?
Fanfic, sometimes long rediculous metas

Where can people find your works? Ao3, but I post stuff to tumblr

When did you start creating fanworks? Nov 2016

What made you start creating works? too many stories in my head

Had you created fanworks in other fandoms before? very casually, and I almost never published them.

Do you also create original stuff? occasionally. I've done nanowrimo twice, but I'm not at all intense about original stuff.

What is your process in writing/arting/creating? (Where do you start? Do you tackle things in order? Do you start with a single scene or imagery and create a work around it? Do you need to immerse yourself in canon or other fanworks to get in the mood?) Is all the above an answer. I guess it depends. Sometimes I write the first sentence and go from there. Sometimes I have a very specific plot with mood and everything decided. Sometimes I have a prompt and just immerse myself in cannon for a while so that it can coalece. I write every single day, so sometimes I have to power through.

What inspires you? How do you get inspired? Canon, other creators, music, weird things that happen in my life I need to write about in a backdoor sort of way.

What is your favorite Steve/Tony fanwork you created and why? hmmmm... probably If the Words Are True, (MCU) in which Steve gets outed against his will and Tony helps him through it. I love it because it's all mood and sadness regret and because I think it's a different take on internalized homophobia.

What is your most underappreciated Steve/Tony fanwork you created and what are your thoughts on it? Memory-Resident Virus. AI Tony builds a Steve simulation during Secret Empire, but the simulation is evil. It's super kooky and upsetting, which I like. Also the title is the best thing I've ever come up with in my life.

Quote a favourite excerpt from one of your stories, or embed one of your drawings, videos, edits, etc. What is it that you like about it? “I’d tell you to shove your assumptions up your ass, Steve. But I’m not sure there is any more room.” from Just for the Conversation . I like it because it's funny and I'm not great with funny. It makes me proud.

I'm going to try and go through other people's stuff over the week. Thanks mods for putting this all together.

Yes! This is what I love about it too.

What moment in canon got you into Steve/Tony? that moment in CA:CW when Tony shows up in Siberia and Steve's face lights up, followed by the moment minutes later where he almost kills Tony.

Gah, yes. I love the little break in tension. I was honestly going like "wow, did we get away with it" as I was watching, thinking maybe it would end happily, and then WHAM.

[personal profile] navaan 2018-02-21 11:00 am (UTC)(link)
I always love to read drabbles and I always found them to be a fun and engaging writing exercise, so let's make another mini-challenge!

THE CHALLENGE
Write as many or as few drabbles about Steve/Tony and their love as you can come up with.

TO PARTICIPATE
  • You can leave themes for drabbles you'd like to see (like a trope, a one word prompt, an image etc.) in the comments to inspired others
  • You can just jump in and post drabbles in answer to this comment or in answer to themes and prompts left by others.

How are you defining drabble?
Exactly 100 words of story.

Can I write more than one drabble?
Yes! Please do!

Can I write a drabble series - like 3 drabbles that tell a continuous story?

Yes, double drabbles and drabble series are welcome. They should be complete 100 word drabbles that form a sequence in that case - so three drabbles in a sequence not a 300 word ficlet.

[personal profile] nostalgicatsea 2018-02-25 07:58 am (UTC)(link)
I wasn't sure if I was supposed to make a separate comment or add it to my "ask me anything" post up there, but to compromise, I'll skip the questions that people have asked me on the question masterlist if they asked it in the "ask me anything" thread.

How did you first encounter the Steve/Tony ship?
When The Avengers trailer came out, I saw glimpses of the MCU fandom on my dash and a lot of people seemed to be screaming about the sexual tension between Steve and Tony even though I wasn't in the Marvel fandom, I hadn't watched any Marvel movies at that point, and the people I followed only seemed to be general MCU fans but not actually in the fandom. I watched the trailer and didn't understand what people were talking about LOL. I don't know how I missed the Helicarrier UST either.

When did you start shipping Steve/Tony? What appeals to you about Steve and Tony?
My answer is here.

What's your favorite Steve/Tony universe if you have one?
I CAN'T CHOOSE! Okay, I can. MCU and 616 are tied for me as MCU was what got me into the fandom and, despite my complaints, I love it (at least parts of it) to pieces. 616 was what trapped me. All that history, all that angst and love.

What moment in canon got you into Steve/Tony?
I don't think there's a specific moment, but I'd say it was a combination of the slashy moments and Cap-IM manifesto. The Confession had a huge impact on me too (as, I think, the mutual admiration thing they got going on that one time Tony mooned over Steve's azure eyes and Steve was breathlessly in love with Tony) because I couldn't believe that and CW as a whole were real. That was basically a love confession without saying the words "I love you."

Any Steve/Tony headcanons you want to share?
I'm blanking out so here's one sad one that isn't that great lol.

What are your favorite Steve/Tony tropes? Can you recommend some of your favorite works containing those tropes?
There are too many so I'll skip this haha.

Do you associate any songs or playlists with Steve/Tony? If so, which one(s) and why?
If there's one thing you need to know about me, it's that almost every song reminds me of Steve/Tony.

If you could see any moment happen between Steve and Tony in canon, what would it be?
616: Obviously them dating or professing romantic love for each other and THEY HAVE A NICE, HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP. I love my angst, but I really don't like the idea of having dude writers try to make it as toxic as possible.

MCU: Someone said Red Zone and that's all I can think about now. Or 3490/Steve and Tony marrying featuring in some way.

Was Steve/Tony your first fandom/ship that you have been active in?
Nope. I was in a lot of fandoms before this and had several ships.

How do you participate in fandom (making fanwork, joining events, lurking)?
Commenting, yelling about meta or headcanons on Twitter, gushing over artists and authors, and I guess I write some fics while I'm at it.

What was your favorite experience in the Steve/Tony fandom?
My answer is here.

What's your favorite Steve/Tony-related moment or experience outside of canon? (RDJ and his shippy social media posts, hanging out with fandom friends in person, etc.)
RDJ and Chris being the presidents of the Steve/Tony club on social media, in interviews, and behind the scenes (that almost smooch on the AoU gag reel!). Hickman's blowie comment. But most of all, all the wonderful people I met in this fandom. You guys are some of the best people I've come across in my fandom life over the years, and you guys are inspiring in so many ways.

What's one of the first Steve/Tony posts you made, if any? (A text post on tumblr, fanfic you posted on AO3, art you tweeted, a comment you posted, etc.)
Apricity was my first Steve/Tony fic AND my first fic on AO3!

What's one of your favorite Steve/Tony posts that you've made?
I don't make that many so here are three: 1, 2 (for context, this is about Steve's badly written letter), and 3 (and I liked it enough to write it into my STH fill a few weeks ago)

How has your involvement in the fandom changed over the past years or months?
I used to be a lurker in the very beginning and then mostly stuck to commenting, which I was what I was most known for for a while. And then I posted a fic, became a "writer" (I mostly whine about writing rather than actually get any writing done), joined the IRC chat, joined some events, and joined Discord and every single Cap-IM community out there. :D

What fandom things have inspired or impressed you the most?
The sheer amount of talent, kindness, and generosity that people have impresses me every day. As for fandom thigns that inspire me to write, I mostly get inspired by art or gifs and some prompts I come across as well although art's really the sweet spot for me in terms of finished and posted fics.

What about the Steve/Tony fandom are you most thankful for?
The warm, welcoming community. There's very little in-fighting and we make sure to be firm about making everyone feel invited and not left out or bullied.

When did you first find the Cap-IronMan community and what got you involved?
When I first started reading fics in 2012 because some of the fics people recommended were on there. I got involved because I was inspired by art and because I told a mutual about it who encouraged me to write.

What Cap-IronMan fest(s) do you look forward to the most?
Hm...this is a hard one. BB, RBB, holiday exchange, and remix challenge/madness.

Is there a particularly happy memory of a Cap-IronMan fest that you want to share?
This sounds a bit selfish to say, but I've only really successfully participated in one event, so mainly people's remixes of Multitude of One (I was so over the moon and grateful! AHHHHHH!!!!!) and these two beautiful fics by Woad and Ironlawyer based on prompts I submitted for comm gifts: 1 and 2. They're magnificent! Please shower them with lots of love. Oh, and I had a blast betaing Woad's magnificent 2016 RBB fic, The Devil's Strand. It was fun helping Woad out because they're great, but I'd been craving a good mob AU for a long time and it hit all the right buttons for me.

What was one of the first Steve/Tony fanworks you've encountered?
Art-wise, probably something Marr (ironfries) made. For fic, some of the earliest fics I read that had the biggest hand in converting me into a Steve/Tony shipper are The Last Love Song of Anthony E. Stark by jibrailis, one of valtyr's fics (I read through so many so quickly that I don't remember which ones came first), the W.I.P.E. series by tsukinofaerii, and Bulletproof by foxxcub.

Rec the works or posts that remind you of why you love this ship (a fic, a canon moment, or maybe a funny text post).
All of the links I posted above. :)

What kind of Steve/Tony work would you love to see that hasn’t been created yet?
I have a lot, many of them canon-compliant, but I'm tired so I'll link this answer here instead.

What fic would you recommend if you were trying to get someone into Steve/Tony? And why?
It depends on that person's preferences and what they're looking for. Do they like fluff? Angst? Certain AUs? Do they love certain tropes? Have squicks or triggers? Do they want to understand why people like Steve/Tony? If that's the case, I try to get a meaty canon-based one that delves into the relationship dynamics of that universe.

What type of fanworks do you create?
Sadly, I think I'm only capable of writing angst. Even nicer pieces are more bittersweet or wistful than full-on fluffy because I don't know how to write tooth-rotting fluff. Or comedy for that matter.

Where can people find your works?
AO3 mostly, but DW, LJ, and Tumblr as well.

When did you start creating fanworks?
In this fandom? 2014. Wow, I can't believe it's been four years. In other fandoms, sometime in middle school.

What made you start creating works?
I had so many ideas and wanted to explore the world of whatever fandom I was in because I was so invested in it and the characters. I love writing as much as it's hard for me, and there were some ideas I had that I didn't want anyone to write but me. Or no one was interested in writing but me lol.

Had you created fanworks in other fandoms before?
Yes, I have! They were terrible and I'd like to forget they exist haha.

Do you also create original stuff?
Yes, but for myself. I haven't done it in years because every time I want to write, I feel like I should be working on fics.

What is your process in writing/arting/creating? (Where do you start? Do you tackle things in order? Do you start with a single scene or imagery and create a work around it? Do you need to immerse yourself in canon or other fanworks to get in the mood?)
Usually a single scene comes to my mind like an image or I have some dialogue and then I write because I want to write that scene. I tend to tackle things in order, but not entirely, and obsessively edit as I go. I also tend to have a lot of backstory that doesn't make it into the fic and sometimes isn't even relevant to what's going on in the fic.

What inspires you? How do you get inspired?
Everything and anything because I'm so deep in this Steve/Tony pit.

What was your first Steve/Tony fanwork? Do you still like it?
Apricity. There are some lines that drive me NUTS and make me cringe that I want to remove, but I don't like fixing stuff after I post them unless I see a typo or something. I still like it enough though, and there are some things about it that I'm proud of.

What is your favorite Steve/Tony fanwork you created and why?
Surprisingly, it's not the one I'm most known for. It's No Promises During Wartime, which is one of my least popular ones on AO3 although I think it got more traction on Tumblr where it was originally posted. It's Noir and it's short so I guess that's why most people passed on it, but for me personally, it's my best fic/fic that's closest to perfect so far. Every word belongs because each were carefully chosen and there's no excess, which is something I never think is true about any of my fics. That's something I admire in other people's writing, where each word has purpose. I think it's my most mature writing too in that I did what I set out to do and I feel satisfied with it. The runner up is Thunder Hurried Slow, also one of my least popular fics because I love the rhythm of it and I don't know if this makes sense, but you can almost "taste" it. It's very sensory, which I like. They're not perfect, but they're the ones I'm most satisfied with.

What is your most underappreciated Steve/Tony fanwork you created and what are your thoughts on it?
Ignoring a one-line drabble I wrote for ireallyshouldbedrawing, in terms of hits and kudos, it's No Promises During Wartime, but for comments and bookmarks, it's To Be By Your Side. I'll talk about the latter because I already talked about NPDW. It's a quiet, short Noir drabble so I'm not surprised it flew so low under the radar, except it did much better on Tumblr, and I consider it my most viscerally yearning fic. If Steve yearned for Tony any harder, he'd fall into Tony's lap and kiss him which I think is a good way to go.

Quote a favourite excerpt from one of your stories, or embed one of your drawings, videos, edits, etc. What is it that you like about it?
Okay, I haven't talked about Multitude of One AT ALL and the other stories are very short, so I'll pick my favorite scene of MoO (heh, that always makes me laugh).

“I guess I’m used to it,” he replied, but both of them knew what the other was saying between the lines. A lifetime later in a world much different from the one they had last been in together, they still understood each other so well.

“I don’t want you to be alone,” Peggy said softly, and Steve didn’t know what to say to that.

He knew that in all likelihood, his soulmate had passed away years ago and that even if they hadn't, he had left them behind, been absent all the years that they had needed him. He knew that some people moved on after their soulmates died, that some settled for others when they figured that they would most likely never find their soulmates.

But he didn’t think that he could do that. He didn’t want to do that. He only ever wanted one person, and that would never change.

“I’ll be fine,” he settled on saying because it was true even if it was a lie. He was no stranger to loss; he would keep marching on like he always did even as he lost more and more of himself moving forward.

Peggy smiled, sad in a way that he never wanted her to be. She looked at him like that a lot now.

“You always say that, and I can’t help but worry anyway,” she said, and all he could bring himself to do at that was smile back and turn his hand to hold hers.

I’ll be fine, he wanted to say again, but he didn’t think either of them would believe it.

This is my favorite scene in MoO, especially the last six lines, because I love Steve and Peggy dearly, I love how they understand each other so well despite all the years they've been apart because they've always been so honest about who they are and to each other, and I think this is the part, besides the very end, that gets to the very essence of MCU Steve. He's very firm in his loyalty to people and to his beliefs, sometimes to the detriment of his own happiness, health, and ability to move on, he has a big heart, and he's just so sad even if he tries to fool himself and the others around him into thinking otherwise. And it contains one of the lines I like best out of the ones I've written: He was no stranger to loss; he would keep marching on like he always did even as he lost more and more of himself moving forward.

I tend to hate a lot of things I write, so those lines that I think turned out well are rare and therefore special to me. That's not to say that I'll look back on those lines in the future and end up disliking them though haha.

If there's one thing you need to know about me, it's that almost every song reminds me of Steve/Tony.

This is certainly something I can relate to!

I have to thank you because in one of your linked answers you introduced me to the worst ship name: stovetuna. I laughed so hard. I think I want to start using stovetuna instead of stony.

Also, your excerpt from MoO is beautiful.
