10 Years of Cap-IronMan - Party Post
Newer participants may not be aware that the original Cap-IronMan Livejournal community was founded February 19, 2008. Today, we celebrate the 10th Anniversary of our community!
What started 10 years ago as one of the many pairing-specific LJ communities — founded after Elspethdixon and Seanchai had helped bring the Steve/Tony ship to more prominence when they started posting Resurrection, Reconstruction, and Redemption in 2007 — soon grew into an active community, organizing and keeping alive different events and fests that have vastly grown over the years.
Today we want to thank all the different mods and teams, helping hands, and everyone who helped shape the community over the years. Thank you to all the people who have shared their ideas to make new fests and challenges happen, to all fans who have commented and shared recs, and to everyone who helped keep the love going. And of course we want to thank all our creators who contributed to the cap-ironman fests over the last 10 years, and especially to our pinch-hitters and the people who are willing to jump in to make sure everyone is happy in a collaborative event! We couldn't do any of this without you!
This is a celebration of our community and the community is all of you!

Cap-IronMan 'Best of Steve/Tony' Nominations
In the 10 years
cap_ironman has been active, we've witnessed many moments between Steve and Tony across all of Marvel's canons as they were published and screened — making up and breaking up in Marvel 616, working as friends then fighting as enemies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, separation and reunion in Avengers Assemble, and more.
To celebrate our community's anniversary, and as a prelude to updating our Slashy Moments list, we'd like to invite everyone to tell us their favorite Steve/Tony moment from the past 10 years, then vote on your favorites in each canon!
For more information and how to nominate your favorite Steve/Tony moments of the last decade, check out the Best of Steve/Tony Nominations post!
We hope you have fun in all of our anniversary activities!

Re: It'd be nice if we could do cuts in comments...
When did you first find the Cap-IronMan community and what got you involved?
I found it pretty early on via the ship manifesto. I got involved when I joined the #cap-im IRC looking for a beta for my first S/T fic.
What Cap-IronMan fest(s) do you look forward to the most?
Remix Madness (which is going on now) is my favorite! It really feels like a creator's circle where everyone can gush and appreciate everyone else's great fanworks. It feels amazing to be noticed by people whose work you admire and there's a community effort to get as many fills for everyone.
Is there a particularly happy memory of a Cap-IronMan fest that you want to share?
Pretty sure I screamed when the Holiday exchange in 2016 revealed and I saw I had 31-GLORIOUS-K OF CAPWOLF????? OH MY GOD????? (It was an INCREDIBLE fic, to boot!)
What was one of the first Steve/Tony fanworks you've encountered?
WIPE by tsukinofaerii is one that really sticks in my head from my early time in canon. I love the clever, experimental format and Tony's voice.
Rec the works or posts that remind you of why you love this ship:
I've recced a lot so far, so I'll take this opportunity to share this soulmates quote that sums up exactly how I see Steve/Tony:
“People think a soul mate is your perfect fit, and that's what everyone wants. But a true soul mate is a mirror, the person who shows you everything that is holding you back, the person who brings you to your own attention so you can change your life.
A true soul mate is probably the most important person you'll ever meet, because they tear down your walls and smack you awake. But to live with a soul mate forever? Nah. Too painful. Soul mates, they come into your life just to reveal another layer of yourself to you, and then leave.
A soul mates purpose is to shake you up, tear apart your ego a little bit, show you your obstacles and addictions, break your heart open so new light can get in, make you so desperate and out of control that you have to transform your life, then introduce you to your spiritual master...”
Re: It'd be nice if we could do cuts in comments...
What type of fanworks do you create?
Fic! I like to think I'm flexible with my range of genres I can write.
Where can people find your works?
My AO3!
When did you start creating fanworks?
March 2013, apparently. Wtf, that was 5 years ago!?
What made you start creating works?
I'd exhausted pretty much all the 616 fic I could find, and I was a bundle of emotions over canon at the time and the fandom was in a slump back then so there was very little 616 being written, so...there I went!
Had you created fanworks in other fandoms before?
Yes, but none to nearly the extent that S/T has eaten my ENTIRE LIFE.
What is your process in writing/arting/creating?
Hmm, I usually just write the one scene that's really sticking with me and then other scenes that stick with me and then realize “oh! I should connect these all together!”
What inspires you? How do you get inspired?
I'd love to say something profound here, but the truth is: deadlines and FOMO.
What was your first Steve/Tony fanwork? Do you still like it?
Dreaming by Sunlight. And yeah, it's actually my second favorite fic I've written in this fandom :)
What is your favorite Steve/Tony fanwork you created and why?
Hope of Morning because I channeled all my Hickmanvengers and angsty Tony feelings into it. It was an incredibly self-indulgent fic. Also, I'm super proud of the plot and how it pushed the characters into the angstiest versions of themselves. I'm rereading it now and I think probably the main issue I'd have with it is that it's convoluted and especially impenetrable if you're not familiar with canon (it's been years since I read Hickmanvengers and even I'M like “wait what is this obscure reference I'm making here LOL”).
What is your most underappreciated Steve/Tony fanwork you created and what are your thoughts on it?
Hmmm, when I first wrote it: I'd say Belief Space which was my first longfic and Hickmanvengers fix-it which in retrospect, should have been obvious it wouldn't be that popular. BUT upon rereading, I think it has some serious pacing issues and deus-ex-machina going on at the end, there. I still think of it fondly because it was my first longfic PLUS Steve only became my favorite after I spent 50k in his head in this fic.
Quote a favorite excerpt from one of your stories.
I don't think I write particularly pretty or evocative lines, so I'll just leave this one because Sineala always tells me how much she likes this quote:
“You were my future,” Steve said, and with those words confessed all he had lost. (from Belief Space which I just linked above!)
Re: It'd be nice if we could do cuts in comments...
I think I also shipped it by osmosis, because it was just...one of those de facto ships, you know? (Like Kirk/Spock)
Shoot-for-the-moon version: confirmation that they've been banging on-and-off off-panel for the past x amount of years.
Incredibly here for that on-and-off again Steve/Tony.
A true soul mate is probably the most important person you'll ever meet, because they tear down your walls and smack you awake. But to live with a soul mate forever? Nah. Too painful. Soul mates, they come into your life just to reveal another layer of yourself to you, and then leave.
Rational Brain: this is perfect for Steve and Tony.
Emotional Brain: Magic how could you let me read this with my own two eyes. *throws it away and thinks hard about Steve and Tony living happily ever after*
Re: It'd be nice if we could do cuts in comments...
THAT QUOTE DEEPLY HURTS ME TOO, it's so perfect but...it hurts so much to be together...but they love each other so much...and they inspire each other to be better people...and I reread it again and I'm a mess all over!! *joins you*
Re: It'd be nice if we could do cuts in comments...
I COMPLETELY 100000% AGREE. Also I have a thing for Steve wiping off the concealer from under Tony's eyes and SEEING HOW EXHAUSTED HE IS.

Damn, now I want to write that.
I saw I had 31-GLORIOUS-K OF CAPWOLF????? OH MY GOD?????
Waiting to be able to reveal it for you and see your reaction was one of my fave parts of that event XD
I joined the #cap-im IRC looking for a beta for my first S/T fic.
*WAVES AT YOU*!!! (I kept yelling at my friend: "I'm betaing this fic, and I can't say anything, but IT'S SO GOOD UGH")
Re: It'd be nice if we could do cuts in comments...
Please write it!!! ahhhhh...I'm very OTP-ish and don't like the idea of them breaking up constantly BUT it totally fits (or a FWB scenario fits too)
I REMEMBER BEING SO SCARED WHEN I WENT IN AND THERE WERE LIKE, 2 OTHER PEOPLE BUT THEN YOU ACTUALLY TALKED TO ME WAHH
Re: It'd be nice if we could do cuts in comments...
Also consider: TONY USING HIS SUPERIOR MAKE-UP SKILLS TO COVER ALL THE HICKEYS STEVE GAVE HIM.
i mean they pine after each other every single moment they're not touching, SO.
i was about to say that it was bc of your time zone BUT YOU WERE IN THE US THEN, IT WAS DESTINY THAT I WAS ALSO ONLINE CLEARLY.

GOD, I WISH.
Multiverse is just the best!
Re: It'd be nice if we could do cuts in comments...
IT WOULD BE SO VALIDATING!!!! AHHH!!!
And yes, multiverse is the best trope. We are so lucky to have so many playgrounds to play in!
